The Outer Limits did an adaptation of the story Sandkings by George R. R. Martin. It sounds like it might be that.
That's the reboot of Outer Limits, to be precise. They were alien? insects, I think.
Here is the Wikipedia page for the Outer Limits reboot version of the story. Does it sound familiar?
the Sandkings aren't really humanoid and don't have the guy giving them technology
An older guy lives by himself a litte boy brings him something. I think he takes it from another man's house. it turns out to be a little race of tiny alien beings. They start off stone age and he introduces them to fire and tools. They advance rapidly in days to industrial age. Then wars break out. Eventually the guy who originally had it was an alien the species of Tiny people were to be humanities replacement but the other guy corrupted them to much so they have to be killed. That's the gist of it. I seen it years ago at first I thought bob davison actor was the guy playing god with the little men. I cant for life of me place it. I thought outer limits or twilight zone but o dont think it's either. Twilight zone done something similar called little people but that's from the 60s this was 90s or even the 2000s. Any help if rings a bell appreciated. Thanks guys
