@mrsunshinesprinkles The early game is rough. But the mid and late game is actually great on H5. Just be wary of dragons. Due to a quirk of the programming of stat display, the dragonstone bonuses are not displayed and even if they were, the stat caps for dragons are lies. The game would have you believe their stats all cap at 20 but that's not true. The actual caps are higher. Speed, for example is actually 26. Add undisplayed +4 from the firestone (the most common dragon type) and their actual speed would end up being 30 instead of 20. A huge difference that can get you killed. Look at their avoid stat instead to quickly know their actual speed.

Why the stat caps displayed are wrong is because untransformed manaketes and transformed manaketes are separate classes. When you go into battle, they shift from untransformed state into their transformed state The actual manakete has the stats of the transformed version but outside of battle, they are shown as untransformed manaketes who have lower stat caps. If any actual stat is above the stat cap of the untransformed manakete class, it won't display properly.

Dragons are the only case where the stat caps matter as they often the only enemies whose stats go that high. Medeus doesn't have this issue either as he permanently shifts to transformed state even outside battle as soon as you begin the chapter. Of course, the problem with Medeus is that on H5 (hell, even starting with H2) is that he reaches his speed cap of 30 whereas Marth can only ever reach a maximum of 25 so Medeus will always double and two-shot Marth starting from H2. Which makes Marth a rather poor choice against Medeus, despite being having Falchion and all.

Ingrid is the only character who can reasonably dodgetank.

It's not like the Gatekeeper was some accidently popular character. He's was designed to be popular.

Only with a sufficiently advanced build and a number of characters can do that with that level of investment. In half that time a 3H player can easily have enough fire power on player phase to obliterate 95% of the enemy so hard that tanking doesn't even need to be a consideration.

In a similar vein, some units in the other games can do it rather late in the game, but at that point, most of the game's best sweepers will have developed enough concrete defenses that it would be silly to rely on chance over simply barely taking any damage.

To make it reasonable in the early game, Avoid would have to be able to get some kind of partial credit. They could maybe import XCOM2's Dodge/Graze system, though I think that would tilt a lot of people. If they heavily rebalanced it (because it's utterly, stupidly busted as is), could also try transferring over the Spd-check-based damage-percent reduction from Heroes.

I love that Abysskeeper is like a negaverse-Gatekeeper, always having something to report instead of nothing.

And has someone he's crushing on but being all Tsundere about.

Meanwhile Gatekeeper wishes somebody, anybody, would go to the Goddess Tower with him.

But IS/KT decided to taunt us by not making him an option.

They know his 99 Charm would stop anyone's heart, so he's stuck forever alone.

So what you're telling me is that the events of the game could have been avoided if he talked to Edelgard and Dimitri.

If he did it with the intent to romance them, yes.

But Byleth's heart is already stopped.

It just doesn't work conventionally. Gatekeeper's mojo would still overwhelm it, though.

Too bad he's only a centimeter tall according to the same internal data that lists his Charm as 99.

His true form would only be another obstacle if anyone could survive attempting to romance him.

Reminder that Rhea is the one who tries to give your students free marijuana. Meanwhile, since Edelgard opposes her, it stands to reason that Edelgard must be anti- weed legalization. The fiend!

Ahhh, but Rhea only gives marijuana to TWO students only, therefore she plays favorites and creates an environment where only the students she likes get benefits giving us all sorts of ethical breaches and is further proof she has a system that benefits those at the top.

Meanwhile, Edelgard offers free fish. Can't beat that.
