Gee a Youkai bar? What could POSSIBLY go wrong?

I hope there are no night owls living in the village.

It's also interesting that Suika just straight up walked into the village undisguised and the villagers who saw here were just like "yeah i'm gonna pretend i didn't see that"

Youkai shopping in the village is apparently not that uncommon - Ran is mentioned buying tofu - so I can see why it'd pass without much comment.

Yuugi did visit the village to drink and watch the fights during Hopeless Masquerade, and Suika is shown participating as the oni in the Setsubun festival as the oni in Wild and Horned Hermit.

As long as they don't cause trouble, the most youkai get is gawks and gossips from the villagers.

Which would still give Miyoi understandable cause for worry. I doubt villagers seeing Suika and calling Geidontei a Youkai bar would be good for business. tongue

...Suika is shown participating as the oni in the Setsubun festival as the oni in Wild and Horned Hermit.

I was under the impression the villagers thought she was just some little village girl cosplaying.

Or none of them want to be the one to tell the moon-shattering booze monster "You can't be here."

I had to reread the chapter more carefully, but yeah, it doesn't look like Suika technically lies, she just promises to "take care" of the problem without specifying how. Still pretty shady, though.

Okay, now I'm actually starting to pity Miyoi a little bit. Suika and Mamizou are basically roping her into a yakuza deal and the whole situation is clearly spiralling out of her control, but she's still the one who's gonna get the blame if things go south. Being an inexperienced little zashiki warashi in a world of hardened youkai thugs is clearly not any more enviable to her than it is to a regular human... That aside, it's interesting that some humans seem to be aware of their role in Gensoukyou's hierarchy, it's just that they don't quite realize that most youkai are more interested in their minds than their meat... Also, of course Marisa would know how to properly do crimes. XD

This chapter was certainly the most direct on the relationship between youkai and humans since FS. I wonder how common knowledge it is that most youkai don't eat humans anymore? Since Miyoi just threw it out there to reassure a worried villager.

Surely part of the youkai's thing is that while they don't, they very well could

Right, and that's what they're afraid of, isn't it?

Kinda like living next to a beach frequented by sharks: Even if the sharks haven't bitten any person as far as anyone can remember, the stories and movies of man-eating sharks is still going to be more than enough to make people scared of the mere possibility of being eaten by a shark.

And with a certain whale-hatted heroine, Chamaji finishes their avatar gallery of all contemporary Touhou characters. I'm still holding out for some PC-98 love, but we'll see. Also, they've been keeping up with Lotus Eaters too.

I actually find her a bit obnoxious. Maybe if she's served a slice of humble pie, I might like her more.

She's based of a Greek Goddess. Not much older than that in Touhou.

The story of Junko is older than all of Greek civilization.

I mean the era it supposedly takes place in is a semi-mythological era of Chinese history that predates recorded Greek civilization.

China is pretty old.

The oldest archaeologically verifiable period of Chinese history is actually surprisingly contemporary to the oldest archaeological period of ancient Greece. That said, I'm prewtty sure the oldest known instance of Hou Yi's story dates from way after the Shang period (just like I don't know of any mentions of Hecate from the Mycenaean period).

Chinese mythology probably predates Grecian mythology because I don’t think the Greeks mentioned when there used to be multiple suns so they must have missed it

Nice to know if Tezcatlipoca ever wanders into Gensokyo she can do a bit of cultural posturing
