It's a Gundam thread!

Haven't seen 0083 but I seem to remember hearing the Gerbera Tetra started as the GP 04. The GP 04's supposed purpose apparently overlapped with the GP 01 so the Federation scrapped it early in construction to save money. I think that's when the Zekes got the unfinished thing from Anaheim or something and the "Tetra" in its name is supposed to call back to it starting as the GP 04.

If anyone can clarify more that'd be great.

That's basically right. The GP 04 was supposed to be a space combat version of GP 01, but then they upgraded GP 01 for space use anyway, so the GP 04 got canned. Rather than scrapping the whole thing, Anaheim slapped some Zeon stylings on it and gave it to Cima.

Who, ironically, from what I understand, anyway, decided to help the Feddies foil Operation Stardust.

From what I remember (based on what I heard from others), Cima was blackmailed or something. And she already wanted to bail on Zeon for the colony gassing incident anyway, but the brass forgot to tell Kou that.

The subtext that the Gerbera was a reward that Cima got from her Federation handlers is quite interesting, because it keeps Anaheim as the good guys all the way from their introduction until their decent, moral employees were wiped out in the First Neo Zeon War. It’s an interesting wrinkle to their more notorious ‘shady war profiteer’ characterisation.

I alwasy wondered why the GP mobile suits were named after flower-related stuff, I mean... The GP-00 is named Blossom for crying out loud!

Cima was a Federation double agent from the start. She was pissed at the Principality because the higherups duped her and her Marines into gassing colonies without realizing that's what they were doing, and then turned around and blamed them for the war crimes. So basically both sides hated her, and she hated both sides as well, but she hated Zeon slightly more for betraying her twice, so she secretly worked with Jamitov to provide information about Operation Stardust and act to ensure that things proceeded as he wanted (ie, for the Delaz fleet to almost succeed, but be dramatically stopped at the last minute in order to provide justification for Jamitov et al to create the Titans).

It's unclear of the Gerbera ended up in her hands through her Federation contacts or because she was ostensibly a Delaz ally.

Kou was given orders not to fire on her, but attacked anyways because she killed Burning.

I tend to forget that Burning died in 0083, since I am so used to seeing him alive and well in Super Robot Wars.

About a quarter way through Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ. It's still gripping me. The main kids have gotten fleshed out more and I can like or hate them easier. Too bad Mashymre got Put on a Bus, he's the best character, Cima is a hollow shade of his greatness.

Pacing-wise it's interesting compared to Zeta. They toss the colony in maybe 2 episodes in Zeta, but here they're on for like 7 and Shangri-La got fleshed out. I'm also surprised the Double Zeta showed up so early. It's a cool suit, like Judau I appreciate how much it goes to differentiate itself from the previous protagonists/mobile suits.

The jokier lighter tone works and doesn't work. Mashymre was when it worked, and those punks attempting to betray the AEUG is when it doesn't. It's a shame Fa got the shaft so quickly though. She's had potential, but she was stuck with a broken suit and just kind of left. Sad.

Yazan legitimately sucks though. He just doesn't work as a comedic villain especially next to Mashymre. This dude killed so many major characters and now he's the funny villain? It's just really lame. It's like Gamzee from Homestuck, except Gamzee was supposed to be a jarring flip flop between scary and funny (I don't think it worked, but still). Boo, Yazan. I want to read the Johnny Ridden manga now just to see him regrow his balls.

Trying to remember when exactly certain things happened in ZZ, have you gotten to Moon Moon and/or the Cecilia the Crybaby two parter yet?

Yeah, I know I see Mashymre again. Sadly a couple of things in series were spoiled to me already. Not nearly as many as Zeta, but still.

I'm on the episode where they meet the moon-moon weirdos.

It's cool to see the MK.II again.

Huh so apparently there was a recent Japanese poll about the top 5 most hated Gundam characters & ...... Kira Yamato took #1 spot.

I have to say that is rather amusing.

I think it's because he was turned into a blatant Gary Stu in Destiny, but that's just me.

What’s weird is that 5 through 2 is Iron Mask, Gihren, Bask Oom, & Prince Ali making you think it’s a Love to Hate villain poll but then somehow Kira number one.

So like is this poll for the villains or characters one would genuinely despise in a non ironic way like Iok the nimrod?
