Honestly the numbers game is a pretty good point in itself. No matter how weird you are, there's enough humans running around that there's probably somebody who's into that.

And didn't she say a while back that her brain was basically wired to like humans more than her own species? Or was that just a result of growing up surrounded by humans and no Bowman Wolves?

That's a very optimistic view. Consider all the species we've driven to extinction.

Yeah it's kind of jumping to the opposite extreme. Although it could be argued that in universe humanity is better at preservation, the comic generally runs on assuming everything works just as it does currently, including the bad bits (i.e. stupid extremes of bureaucracy that were showcased)

Florence didn't describe preservation, but creation. Corn, dogs, and watermelons are species that wouldn't exist without human intervention. They're as common as they are because humans have encouraged their reproduction.

I mean, parasites are technically symbionts, too.

Florence is definitely looking at this through rose-colored glasses, yes, but she's not wrong. Life on a global scale has been adapted, some by chance and some by design, by our species. Yes, there is the downside to that, too (the aforementioned extinctions), so perhaps it's best to say that humanity is the most successful organism at modifying its habitat that we know of.

Actually I'd credit phytoplankton with that, and not coincidentally it was also responsible for a mass extinction event.

Phytoplankton aren't a single organism, though; it's a large percentage of an entire clade, and there are thousands of species of them. A better comparison to phytoplankton would be vertebrates (which isn't to say that vertebrates as a whole are more successful than phytoplankton... but humans are almost certainly more successful at habitat alteration than any single strain of phytoplankton).

[up][up][up]IIRC a symbiotic relationship is one where both partners benefit and a parasitic relationship is one where one benefits at the expense of the other. There's also a name for a relationship where one benefits and the other neither benefits nor is harmed but I don't remember what it's called and it's apparently pretty rare in nature. It would be most accurate to say that humanity has a symbiotic relationship with some species and a parasitic relationship with others.

We lack the long term for qualifying as the parasitic. If we don't benefit from something we ignore it and occasionally stomp down on our way to something else. If we benefit from something then its either something that we adopt and grow (crops, domesticated animals) or something we straight up consume in a predatory manner.

Symbiotic Relationships (Mutualism, Commensalism and Parasitism): Parasitism is a symbiotic relationship in which one species (the parasite) benefits while the other species (the host) is harmed.

Not Yakety Sax? I suppose that's a little more appropriate for chasing Sam.

Oh, I assumed it was just a reference to bitcoin. Cryptocurrency in general isn't really a scam, but it's a commodity pretending to be a currency, which I figured Sam thought was close enough.

From a certain point of view, crypto scams could be thought of as victimless crimes, since the people falling for them are clearly too stupid to be allowed to handle money.

However, our legal system is based around protecting people from this sort of thing, and the person pulling it off obviously needs to be punished for fraud.
