I just picked up the best game ever! I say that about a lot of games, but really, Front Mission Evolved is mech combat at it's finest.

It's fast, but since your Wanzers can take a beating teamwork and formation's really important. Despite the fact that it's only been released today, i've already seen a crudload of different loadouts. People are getting pretty damn creative... Hopefully it will stay that way instead of devolving into a Player-Preferred Pattern clonefest.

The campaign's kinda generic so far (At least the hero has hair.) but completeting levels using different Wanzers gives it some honest replay value.

And i know people some people are pretty angry at the game for perhaps being a blow to Strategy RPG games but honestly, if you ask me this is how front mission should be played. The cutscenes aren't hogging all the awesome action anymore!

What's everyone else's opinion on the game?

It's not a strategy RPG so I don't care.

Have the game. Wrestling with controls, which isn't a good sign: it's hard to fire shoulder weapons while moving around using keyboard controls, and it won't let me remap my gamepad buttons from their ridiculous mismapped defaults (e.g. pause mapped to R2, camera control mapped to nothing).

Other than that, it seems interesting. Haven't gotten far in the campaign, though.

This is basically my opinion as well, except I bought it anyway. (Not that I've had a chance to actually play it yet.)

I saw in on Steam, but I was afraid to get my hopes up.

The lack of gameplay footage seemed like a red flag, plus what footage I saw was being played in God Mode. From what I know from friends who work in the industry, that isn't a good sign.

Again with the data mining, dear Aunt?

My brother is a fan of Front Mission, as well as games like Mech Warrior, Armored Core, Gundam Vs, and Ace Combat, so a game like this should be right up his alley. He has only played an hour of it so doesn't yet have too much to say about it, but after he plays a bit more I can get you guys his impressions of the game.

Helpful Scripts and Stylesheets here.

You know, the biggest dissapointment with this game for me is it's storyline. Front Mission has always had a crazily complex and incredibly in-depth and well thought out storyline. This game is an action movie Cliché Storm with quite possibly the worst Token Romance in video game history. Glimpses of quality shine through at first, but the neat setting gets dragged back down by the characters it focuses on. Then there are some ridiculous aspects that really shouldn't be in a front mission game. Zombie robots. I shit you not.

It doesn't help that the voice acting is so devoid of emotion or talent that it's almost physically painful to listen too. The grizzled old general sounds like he just left puberty and the villain sounds like he just chugged a bottle of sleeping aids. And the one character that i thought had a voice actor that was barely passable just died. So yeah.

Oh well. The online gameplay is teh awesomesauce.

On one hand, I'm disappointed in the lack of recent Front Mission strategy games. FM 3 is still one of my favorite games ever, up there with Final Fantasy Tactics and Tyrian.

On the other hand, as a fan of Armored Core, I have absolutely no objections to more mecha action games.

It controls well (on the 360 anyway), the customization is still there, and surprisingly enough melee is easy to use - I never could hit worth a damn with blades in Armored Core, so this is a nice change.

I want more FM strategy, and I really want FM 3 on PSN so I can play it on my breaks, but I wouldn't object to more Front Mission action games either.

Is it just me or is the entire mercenary unit of Apollo's chariot comprised of nothing but Ax-Crazy psychos for hire ? And their attempts at mocking you during boss battles get old really fast. But all in all, it#s a decent game. Not great, but decent.

As a huge fan of Armored Core, I'm compelled to get this game. And the other ones.

Eerily prescient, as it turns out. The default key-bindings in the PC version are atrocious, which is part of the problem, but in a couple of hours it just hasn't struck me as very good in general. Most unfortunate.

y'know, I wanted to like this game. I really did. And then I realized it played like a slower, easy-mode version of Armored core... :/ I mean... I'll wait for AC 5. The campaign is a joke, and the multiplayer just doesn't play in a manner that's any different from any other team based shooter. And the absolute worst part for me is it's just SLOW. Like, the biggest draw for me to games like AC is that you genuinely feel like a powerful mech. In Front Mission, you feel... slow. And clunky. There's just not a visceral response.
