Oatchi is definitely one of those characters I would totally buy a plushie of, or a body pillow. I was always of the opinion that the best body pillows are the ones modeled after animals instead of anime girls.
In time for Pikmin 4, GaMetal does an unexpected cover of the best song from Pikmin 2.
GOD DAMN
the Sage's trials made me unlearn SO MUCH of what i've been doing with Oatchi. I've almost exclusively using him as a mount, but the Trials NEED you to remember that he's 10 purples in one unit. Took the final map about 20 tries before I remembered that
"Have a good day. Have a good week. Have a good month. Have a good year. Have a good life." ~CiviaYeah, I kinda dig that the final trial, at least the way I did it, is an Escort Mission. You spend so much of the game using him as a mount or a bodyguard or a full-on second captain, but now it's time for you to return the favor and keep him protected as he follows you back to base.
, Huh. When I did The Purple Key I had Oatchi running ahead to kill the enemies while the Pikmin carried the Onion. Actually my Platinum run of The Purple Key was probably the most I let Oatchi take damage throughout my entire playthrough, because I was relying on leaving him idle near enemies so that he would attack them while I stunlocked the wraith.
i just killed the wraith as soon as i got the first 8 purples. note: i 100% did not even attempt a platinum run. i am not that good :V
"Have a good day. Have a good week. Have a good month. Have a good year. Have a good life." ~CiviaOh yeah I killed the waterwraith early on my first successful run of the challenge. But to get a Platinum you need to get the Onion moving ASAP and don't really have any seconds to spare to kill the wraith. The strategy I eventually landed on was having 30 ice and seven purples carry the Onion (exactly enough), sending Oatchi forward to clear the path as the Onion is moving, and keeping one purple with my avatar to just keep knocking the wraith into becoming solid so that it will stay still instead of chasing the Onion. All 38 Pikmin and both player characters working non-stop and it still came down to the wire.
I figured that just letting the Waterwaith live was the only way to get a Platinum. Good to know so I don't waste my time trying other options whenever I jump back into try for higher ranks. While we're here... how the heck are you supposed to Platinum the seventh trial!?!?
I just want to say that whoever designed the Empress Bulblax floor in the Cavern for a King is an evil, evil person.
Yeah, that was near-Kaizo levels of insanity. Literally one wrong move and you lose most of your Pikmin.
How I handled that particular boss fight: I just had the Pikmin attack her body instead of her head like I usually do. That way, I found it easier to call them back before she starts rolling around and gives me about a second longer to head to the geysers before she starts thrashing about.
I ended up just cheesing it by having Oatchi solo. Sure, it took forever, but with all the nectar the larvae drop, I was in no danger of dying.
Although, you do have to leave your Pikmin back at the rocket. Found out the hard way that those boulders can still drop outside the arena.
The more I play Pikmin 4 the more I realize this. Oatchi isn't a part of our pikmin squad, we're a part of Oatchis' pikmin squad.
Serene Shores is pissing me off. I'm at 99%, it says I'm missing a single treasure, but there's nothing left in the level and the dungeons are all at 100%. I don't know what the hell to do here.
"Have a good day. Have a good week. Have a good month. Have a good year. Have a good life." ~CiviaHave you tried having Oatchi sniff out the treasure?
yeah and he found nothing. treasure gauge is turned off too.
i just looked it up and apparently a couple treasures literally only show up at low tide, so I'll try waiting around for that to see if that works

If it's the treasure I'm guessing it is:
There's at least one treasure on that map that ONLY appears after the water goes down at midday. Before midday even Oatchie won't be able to sniff it out.
EDIT: Ah, 'd

YUP that was it.
Now all that's left is the last few night expeditions and the final dungeon and i'm pretty sure that's 100%
"Have a good day. Have a good week. Have a good month. Have a good year. Have a good life." ~CiviaI have an odd question for y'all here.
A long time ago, I heard that the Candypop Buds for making Rock and Winged Pikmin were given the names "Slate Candypop Bud" and "Alizarin Candypop Bud" in a Japanese guidebook, and added those names to this wiki.
Now, however, I cannot find a single source corroborating that anymore. Even a google search only turns up this site. Does anybody have any corroboration on this, like access to the alleged guide?
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique! For what it's worth, the Pikmin wiki does not use those names. And I can't find any source for them either. Hell, I looked it up on the Japanese Pikmin wiki, and it lists those two as "Name Unknown".
On an unrelated note, I'm watching a streamer play Pikmin 2... and I realized the Engulfed Castle in 4 is almost a one-to-one recreation of the Submerged Castle, right down to the level architecture, enemy placement, and hazards. Well, accounting for certain enemies and/or hazards from 2 not being in 4 (they replaced the Bulbmin with wild Rock Pikmin for instance). Just something I found interesting.

Seems I was fed a false source all those years ago, then. Shame, because "Slate" and "Alizarin" are pretty good as far as the Candypop Buds' more fanciful color names go.
I wonder what the Ice Pikmin's Candypop Bud would be named. "Turquoise Candypop Bud"?
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Woo! Fully 100% Pik 4!

I started liking him more after some point in the demo when my brain quietly stopped thinking of him as "dog" and refiled him as "combat furby".
