Dead and gone Burning Legion would be a waste. We need some filler villains. [lol]

[up][up] Mal'ganis showed up at the end of Broken Shore, like most other thought-to-be-dead Legion commanders.

I think he's the only one who doesn't show up anywhere in Legion past the Broken Shore.

So he might still be out there.

[up] That is right, I forgot about that appearance.

Jaraxxus was also there and was never accounted for afterwards, so he might pop up down the road.

Incidentally, Lulubelle Fizzlebang, the sister of the Gnome Warlock Jaraxxus kills during his first appearance, was introduced as a recruitable Champion in the Warlock Order Hall campaign. I wouldn't mind seeing a story arc somewhere where she gets a little revenge.

[up] Wasn't he one of the possible spawnable world bosses during the invasion pre-event (which is set after Broken Shore, if I recall correctly)?

[up]Just checked the Wowpedia article, no he was not.

Thoough it wouldn't really change our conclusions since he'd still be unaccounted for after Argus.

Overall, the number of named demoms who are unaccounted for after Argus far outweighs the number of named demons who we can reasonably assume are dead.

[up] Huh, that's weird - I remember seeing screenshots of the Legion Invasion event where Jaraxxus was walking through the Barrens.

Maybe they replaced him post-beta with someone else? :/

But yeah, Jaraxxus might simply show up as a quest mob or dungeon boss down the line.

Were there Legion invasions in the Barrens before the expansion kicked off?

I remember Azshara, Tanaris, Dun Murogh, and Westfall.

Oh, yeah, at Tarren Mill and Crossroads.

I realized something this morning that I hadn't given any thought to, but the way they're doing the release, the site says that it'll be out (where I am) tomorrow afternoon when I hadn't planned on anything before Tuesday.

[up] Yeah, this will be the first expansion launch I plan on participating in minute 1.

Both because it's out at 6 pm in my time zone, and because I wasn't scheduled to work during that time (I work a flex schedule and have a personal rule against taking time off purely for the sake of video games, so it was up to the luck of the draw).

Hopefully the servers don't explode.

[up] Legion launch was pretty solid, I can't think of any downtimes, the only real complaint was that sometimes sharding could feel excessive, but that was a problem that was probably limited to the RP server I play on it because it kept people from meeting and interacting

Draenor was a disaster for Horde, there was a game breaking bug that prevented anyone from making their base and it could not be skipped at all.

Haaaa, I remember that. That was not a good time.

Of course, Draenor wasn't the greatest expansion anyway. Storywise it was cool, but the goddamn real-time Farmville crap was awful.

It's been fun.

Legion had one major oversight with the professions where it was not possible to progress Engineering because the second quest required you to craft a snack modul which required feasts but you were unlikely to get feasts before max level.

This was hotfixed the next day but considering that Legion was in Beta for months it is a silly oversight.

Speaking of downtime, the only downtime scheduled at the moment is an hour between 5-6AM PDT, I guess they're gonna try to do a live launch instead of a downtime into launch?

I mean. they did live launches for draenor and legion.

Either way, I'd rate this beta phase (not the xpac itself) as a big 5/10, there's been lots of controversy, lots of meh things, expansion didn't sound appealing at first, and the story is having a bit of a rough time, hopefully just growing pains though.

Here's hoping the expansion itself will prove my skepticism wrong, I'm extremely critical of Blizzard and the Dev team, but I do really still love the game and hope the best is done for it.

[up]x5 Yeah, the Garrisons sounded like a cool concept, but in practice just didn't lend themselves to a lot of compelling gameplay.

Mission tables have stuck around because Blizzard is hesitant to remove that reward structure, but they keep getting simplified. With Battle for Azeroth having the most simplified implementation so far.

The problems with Draenor garrisons and missions came in a few major chunks, and I'm ignoring launch bugs because they did get fixed:

  • Having so many followers and traits meant that you would only get the best performance by using an addon, which goes against Blizzard's design philosophy.
  • The fact that you could get all gathering and crafting profession tools in one area meant that once your garrison was fully upgraded, you never needed to leave it except to visit dungeons or do progression zone questing.

Thematically, it was great, but it turned the open world concept of an MMO into what a lot of people have rightly said resembled more a FarmVille knockoff. It reminded me a little of Halfhill in Pandaria, but that required a lot more active supervision.

Okay, getting started on the War of Thorns questline/the Warchief's Agenda.

Seriously, just once, can we get a faction-specific quest that doesn't involve committing war crimes against civilians? Please?

It's been fun.

As has been noted before, at no point is your character required to partake in war crimes. You don't have to kill civilians in Astranaar, you are tasked by Saurfang to evacuate civilians from Lor'danel, and in the Battle for Lordaeron, you can choose not to take a Blight sprayer. You can be as evil or as restrained as you want.

You don't have the choice not to fight the war, unless you just don't do the event, but I'm not going to offer any sympathy there.

Blizzard has decided that this expansion will start with a war between Horde and Alliance. As that is the premise, you're going to be a part of it whether you want to or not... well, unless you just skip the expansion entirely. It's the same with every other expansion. "I think Deathwing is cuddly and misunderstood and I don't want to fight him." Too bad.

[up]x4 I think that's a good summary of what went wrong with Garrisons. I'd add that a lack of compelling outdoor content (prior to 6.2 anyways) for max level characters certainly didn't help matters.

Having said all of that, I still have some fondness for the idea of using some of the tech from garrisons for a player built housing. The feature would need to be expansion agnostic and have limited gameplay benefit to work however.

I'm going to be blunt - I don't think there's any call to talk down to me like that, and you've been doing it for pages now. "If you don't like it, don't play the game" is possibly the least engaging or helpful comment it's possible to make, unless your aim is to shut down conversation. No, I don't like it, and I don't have to, because I'm capable of acknowledging the necessity of a story element while still viewing it critically from a storytelling perspective.

I understand that I've been expressing frustration with the story direction a lot in this thread, and I apologize for that. I know that I tend to be overly critical, and I have a strong attachment to the Horde. Even so, I don't think it helps anyone to just cut off conversation like that. Mocking the people you're talking to as though they just want to hug a big cuddly misunderstood dwagon, instead of expressing discomfort at being made an abettor to war crimes regardless of whether we're made to commit them with our own hands, doesn't help anyone.

Anyway, hopefully servers should be back up by now.

It's been fun.
