The Dawn of Yangchen is out. I'm not done with it yet, but it's good so far. Much more political book than the previous ones.

Rewatching Season 4, and Suyin's reason for not taking charge feels a little weak, she says she does not want to 'impose her ideals on a whole nation', but its not like that is required? She could easily 'just' run the government without imposing her beliefs on the kingdom. Tenzin and the president both say it themselves, her experience and being a Beifong would give her credit with the Earth Kingdom. She could probably get the states to unify as well sense, from what we can see, at least some of them were not refusing to rejoin of power lust or dislike of unity, but because of the things Kuvira was doing as ruler.

I have absolutely no opinions on Suyin's decision in Book 4. Mainly because like I said before we don't actually learn anything about Suyin beyond superficial stuff, so we are not in her head enough for me to say she was right or wrong in her decision.

Also I agree that the last minute nature of it all strangely actually helps Korrasami in the long run. Because you don't have the unnecessary drama you did with Korra and Mako fans can just mostly focus on the good stuff.

I wonder who the creative team on the new trilogy will be. I personally hope it's not written by Dimartino, because I'm in the minority where I liked Turf Wars but really disliked Ruins of the Empire.

We’ve got descriptions of the stories in the upcoming comic anthology Patterns in Time. This video goes over them: https://youtu.be/pyF6_aDslXY

From comments I’ve seen a lot of fans are disappointed by the lack of focus on certain character. Mako and Bolin don't appear in the book at all, and despite appearing in cover, Korra and Asami don’t have much focus either, and only actually interact with each other in one story (which is primarily about Jinora). Tenzin's family get by far the most focus, with four of the eight stories centered on them.

I don’t think Book 2’s problems were with Tenzin’s family.

Ironically, book 2's problems were with everyone but Tenzin's family.

And that includes Raava's family.

I should clarify that by "Tezin's family" I primarily mean Tenzin's children. Bumi is the focus of one story (shared with Meelo) and Kya has a minor appearance in another. To put in perspective, Meelo has two stories where he a central character, an equal number as Korra, the main character of the series.

Looking at them, all but one (a prequel story about Guru Laghima) of the stories are about children. They're either about the child characters from the series or flashbacks to when the adult main characters were children. Both of Korra's stories and Asami's story are this. I don't really get why.

Oh shit

Personally I’ve always thought that it would work best as an approximation of the 80s or 90s, maybe take inspiration from Evangelion or something.

So what, a cyberpunk Avatar series?

I bet the success of Edgerunners had something to do with it then.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Big Bad or The Dragon turns out to be akin to Adam Smasher.

Would be weird to jump straight to modern day tech with all the ways that bending substitutes for a lot of technology, but then it's not like LOK didn't have electrical lighting and planes and uh, a giant mech.

Korra had several giant mecha and one gigantic mecha, the new show can do whatever. But it should be noted that "100 years" thing is speculation on the article.

This is pretty much the roadmap I expected after Korra jumped us into the 20's.

Modern day Earth Avatar, then sci-fi futuristic Fire Avatar.

EDIT: Oh wait, no, they're not doing that. We're getting an Earth Avatar series following Legend of Korra that doesn't specify a particular point in time it's trying to equate to, and also a movie set an unspecified amount of time in the future that's meant to be the modern-day Avatar.

Neat.

Would it really be any harder to get used to then the aforementioned jump from a pre-Renaissance setting (sans the Fire Nation’s blimps and coal-powered ships, who says war is good for nothin’) to a setting very closely based around early 20th century New York, with cars, radios, movies, asphalt road systems and even wide-spread mecha units?

[up][up] That's not what the post claims at all. It says that there will be a series about the Avatar after Korra and it will probably be in the Avatarverse equivalent of the present day.

I should note that this is a leak to a fan blog (one that had called things wrong before), not an official announcement. And even assuming they are right, everything but "this project exists" is self-admitted speculation. This is an issue I have with avatar-news, they don't do a good job separating the things they claim are confirmed information and their own speculation.

The actual news in the the post is:

Avatar Studios is working on the next Avatar after Aang and Korra. An original animated streaming series set in the future after The Legend of Korra, following the next earth Avatar in the cycle, is coming to Paramount+ in 2025.

That's about it. The narrative timeframe is a guess (for all we know, Korra may live to 350 or die at 35), the idea that 2025 will be a huge year for the brand is a guess (Viacom probably wants the one-two punch of a show and a movie tho), when the show will premiere in relation to the film is a guess (could be before, could be after, and that's assuming both projects meet that target year and nothing happens that will prompt dates being moved), and where the live-action series fits in is also a guess (we don't yet know if it will be successful enough to warrant a second season, and how quick that turnaround time will be).

[up] Thank you. I'll add that even that information is not strictly confirmed. Avatar-news is a fan blog that claims to have insider sources at Paramount, but they've gotten stuff wrong before (claiming the first movie would be about Kyoshi). So until someone actually involved with Avatar says something about this show's existence, don't treat it as fully confirmed.

I mean, they already invented mechas by the time of Korra, so expecting more of them to show up in future shows is not unreasonable.

Optimism is a duty.
