ok if persona 4 has too few attack types persona 1 has too goddamn many... why the hell does a two handed sword count as a different damage type than a one handed
Thats old SMT for ya, every character and weapon needed to be unique for just them.
Persona 5 went back to that way too, each character was dedicated to only 1 unique element.
We're all a bunch of boomers, huh
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.In my opinion Innocent Sin is the best in terms of attack variety followed closely by 3 and 5.
Also is it just me or does Changing seasons from persona 3 sound like a hybrid between September and Hip to be Square

So, I have hit a realization with my opinions of this series: I find myself more interested in 3 and 4 than 5. I’m not even sure why. Part of it might just me being a little tired of hearing about 5 so much. Part of it might be because I’m more interested in both 3 and 4’s protagonist groups more than the Phantom Thieves.
You know, I have to wonder why Pit is obsessed with this site. It’s gonna ruin his life!Well, starting with P3 is always good. I suggest FES for PSN or emulator.
Oh, I’m starting Portable.
But I’m talking about how much more fascinating I find 3 and 4 to be over 5.
You know, I have to wonder why Pit is obsessed with this site. It’s gonna ruin his life! That's pretty fair. 3,4 and 5 all tackle a different theme so it makes sense that some resonate more than others for you (I know that some people don't resonate at all with 3's Memento Mori) and the games all have strong enough writing to still be interesting on their own.
The only one I'm inclined to knock against is 4 because I think it's writing isn't as cohesive as the other two and sometimes undermines itself, but it's not like those issues bother everyone so hey.
Nice choice to start with portable, that's where I got my start too. Just make sure to watch The Answer on youtube after you're done.

"when you stare too long into the abyss, Xehanort takes advantage of the distraction to break into your house and steal all your shit."Oh. Well then, carry on. They are both very good games and I definitely agree with you.
I do think a lot of people have experienced some level of burnout with 5; after the new game smell wears off, it's pretty much what you've already experienced with 3 and 4, so by the time 5 rolls around, the novelty has worn off and your less amazed.
I think people got a bit more emotional attachment to 3 and 4's cast because of how long its been since they first played it. And in 3's case, well we've seen most of them grow up into adults along with us, so there's that added connection.
One mutual on Twitter I follow basically stopped playing P 5 S because he was exhausted by the P5 cast and had no real nostalgia for them. By comparison, he could probably replay P3 multiple times.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.Wait how do you develop nostalgia for something that hasn’t even been out for a decade?
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."I mean it's not like nostalgia is a matter of numerical years. pretty sure I can be nostalgic of me discovering xenoblade X, and that game is NOT 10 years old.
I sorta disagree with the idea that p5 is strictly more of the same ? Like the main cast I kinda get, but that's dismissing the confidents and the mementos targets, which are far more involved narratively than previous iterations of the concepts - and I find leaving aside both aside to be pretty weird, because in terms of flow of the game, they're just as much central to the experience of p5 than it's main plot and cast. You can argue that those didn't impact you, which is fair enough, but that's not quite the same thing as to say p5 is just more of 3 and 4.
"when you stare too long into the abyss, Xehanort takes advantage of the distraction to break into your house and steal all your shit."I will say that I like how P5 just oozes style from every pore.
I feel like it's more theatrical than 3 or 4, but that's really more a thing about the technology used in it than anything else.
One Strip! One Strip!I was mostly speaking in general; but Confidants serve the same general function as Social Links, just with more added benefits to them.
Not saying they aren't more involved, because they absolutely are. But if you're burnt on social links, I don't think Confidants would have done much to alleviate that.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does. That's a strength of the franchise in general. There's a game for every genre and taste in SMT. Not every game will be for everyone, but there's bound to be several favorites.
I'd really like to see a P6 take notes from Devil Survivor. The protagonist in the first game especially gets lots of choices to communicate to his friends. Having limited time events made them feel more urgent and tied to the plot as it happens compared to Social Links.
"No will to break."So I have a question that is cross-posted from the Smash thread:
If we were to get a different Persona character instead of Joker, or any of the other Avatars (so Male! P3 Protag, Female! P3 Protag, and Narukami are also out), who would you want?
I’d go with either Mitsuru, Yukiko, or Ann.
You know, I have to wonder why Pit is obsessed with this site. It’s gonna ruin his life!Marie, duh.
...whatt? Love Marie. :(
But seriously, I don't play Smash at all but I'd be curious to see Yukiko.
the p5r antagonist. Dude is way too cool.

"when you stare too long into the abyss, Xehanort takes advantage of the distraction to break into your house and steal all your shit."Elizabeth, would be a way to reference multiple games via multiple personae. (Margaret or the Twins could also work)

Huh, I never knew Naoto's Persona was that jerk from SMTIVA. If she says it in P 4 G, I totally forgot.
I dunno, I remember none of the teammates' Persona names apart from Amaterasu and I think Jiraiya, mainly because I use Yukiko and Yosuke so much that their battle taunts are ingrained in my head.
Naoto's Persona was the final boss and big bad of Raidou Kuzunoha vs. The Soulless Army.
Well Sega's E3 thing was a complete sleeper, why even bothering to announce that Sega/Atlus would be there at the PC conference when its just for a Sonic HD game and nothing from Atlus.
Here I was thinking a P3 or P5 on PC was a possibility.
Melitodes is largely there for a pun (It's a euphemism for Persephone meaning "sweet as honey" where Beatrice herself is a beekeeper with dreams of becoming a successful businesswoman). But I did realized that she shares Persephone's place of being held against her will in somewhere she doesn't want to be, just due to financial reasons as opposed to kidnapping.
