Ironically, as someone who is polyamorous, I actually Liked the idea of P3 protag being that way.
It felt relatable to me.
Watch SymphogearAren’t the girls unaware that he’s dating so many people at once?
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."x4 Yeah Persona can be hypocritical. I've never been a fan of holding it up as some great social commentary beyond the base message.
This song needs more love. And even then a lot of people think it fails at that. Just spent a whole page elsewhere of people shitting on P4 and P5 for not living up to their messages. P4 is about being true to yourself yet, as is so often the case even on here, the case of Yukiko is brought up and how she ends up staying the same. Rise also ends up staying the same. And so-on. Don't necessarily agree with this but a lot of people feel this way. And P5 went "okay, how about we have a theme of rebellion...BUT NOT TOO MUCH REBELLION. Let's not get crazy here."
If anything, P5 is mildly Conservative.
The conclusion elsewhere was that P3 was the best because it avoided all this social commentary and just dealt with existential shit.
Yeah this ain't no Dragon Age or Jade Empire threesome situation. P3 S Links all take place in their own little pocket dimension, completely separate from each other.

They aren't.
As a side-note, while I do get it kinda undermines the themes of the game, I'm a bit iffy about putting romancing kawakami in the same bag as kamoshida, because, y'know, one is a case of teacher abusing his position to sexually abuse students while the other is a mutually consented relationship, initiated by the student.

"when you stare too long into the abyss, Xehanort takes advantage of the distraction to break into your house and steal all your shit."Is not the exact level of bad, but they're relatively in the same category.
Sure, Joker iniciates it...and I'm still iffy about it.
So Ephebophiles that use the "She started it" as their excuses alongside the "my student was ultra mature for it's age!"

Watch me destroying my countryI dunno, I have zero problems with the second one. I was under the assumption that joker's around 16, so above age of consent in my country. I don't really see the social taboo of dating your teacher, but social taboos can go fuck themselves anyway so that's not a point against it either.
"when you stare too long into the abyss, Xehanort takes advantage of the distraction to break into your house and steal all your shit."I mean Im sure hes at just the cusp of age where it would be legal in Japan too, but would still be given looks because while that might be the case most people don't do it afterall.
Every accusation by the GOP is ALWAYS a confession.Yeah but that's not different from a rapist claiming his victim was consenting. Just because it happens shouldn't put into question normal relationships.
Which is exaclty why taboos can go fuck themselves - because even healthy relationships are frowned upon, it's a mess to sort out what is abuse and what is consent. I don't remember who said it, but I remmember someone one day said tabboos only protect those they don't concern - and I find that very true.

"when you stare too long into the abyss, Xehanort takes advantage of the distraction to break into your house and steal all your shit."I certainly wouldn't call P5 conservative (it does treat the socialist-ish Yoshida as a good guy, after all) but in some aspects it's not as liberal as it wants to be.
Hey if I am supposed to self insert, that means Joker is actually close to thirty. Checkmate, atheist.
Persona 5 isn't strictly conservative, but it does a very weird promotion of the status quo BY saying its okay to rebel against anything making that status quo WORSE for people.

that's the most accurate assesment of the situation i've seen here.
"when you stare too long into the abyss, Xehanort takes advantage of the distraction to break into your house and steal all your shit."I'm not sure I follow; isn't that simply advocating improving the status quo?
Persona 5 undermimining its messages due to Wish-Fulfillment and not going far enough is one of my biggest criticisms of it and why I don't consider its writing all that good.
I think the problem is due to Western and Japanese differences in what constitutes rebellion against the status quo.
hey man i'm closer to kawakami's age than i am joker's. it would be weirder if i dated anyone else honestly
i still romanced futaba but that's besides the point
"There's not a girl alive who wouldn't be happy being called cute." ~Tamamo-no-MaeAt face value that what the game sounds like its doing, but notice how nearly every Palace and Mementos Request is focused on fixing a personal disruption to a "Perfectly Normal System That Worked Just Fine Until This Asshole Showed Up". It frames every success of the Phantom Thieves as a restoration to "What Should Be", instead of an act that inspires other people to change societal ills for the better.
The Confidant Requests especially show this. All of the them require the protagonist to suggest they use the Phantom Thieves, instead of thinking to ask for the Thieves themselves as their own "Act of Rebellion". Because of this it reduces what could have been a societal issue into a personal problem that doesn't reflect on why things like this can happen to 'anyone''.

obligatory "why not both" comment.
"when you stare too long into the abyss, Xehanort takes advantage of the distraction to break into your house and steal all your shit."It reminds me more of Raidou 2, which Hashino also worked on. Where Chaos Raidou was fine with society except when he has to obey a rule he doesn't like. Then he tosses that aside and does as he wants. But isn't foaming at the mouth about letting demons out or throwing society in mayhem for his own satisfaction.

Every accusation by the GOP is ALWAYS a confession. The Wish-Fulfillment thing is why, in an Updated Re-release, I wouldn't want a Confidant with Shiho even as sweet and adorable as she is. I'm skeptical they'd be able to resist giving you the option to cure her PTSD with your dick.
Thats just failures on Hashino more than anything. Like how they designed the girls of P3 to alwys be required to date to social link since he never had a female friend growing up.
