Sweet, it's like Ray Storm and Do Don Pachi Dai Ou Jou had a kid!
Okay, the key to Crimzon Clover is to use the lock-on lasers like all the time, try to apply firepower directly to big things rather than relying on the laser to hit those, and enter break mode very often since it charges so quickly.
Big news: Darius Burst: Another Chronicle is going to be released outside of Japan. The fans convinced Taito that there would be a market for it.
Caltrops is nice enough to provide reviews for Sora and The Tale of Alltynex Trilogy.

Wonder how many fans always wanted a thing called tuna sashimi - Darius has even less recognition than Gradius and R-Type in the states. Or, maybe it's exactly the success of Gradius, R-Type, and various Cave games that have enticed the big battleships to be approaching fast.
Last time I was playing Darius Gaiden, I made it to the final boss...on final stage rank, somehow.
http://twitter.com/raydere | http://raydere.tumblr.comThe X-box live version of Guwange is getting a patch for 4:3 aspect ratio soon!
Dodonpachi Daioujou Black Label EX got a patch too that reduces loading times. Not that it's of much relevance here due to DOJBLEX being region-locked.

If only the gameplay was as wonderful.
Resurrecting this thread.
SHOOTING GAME NEVER DIE!
Yay for link for Shoot Em Up games! (WARNING: Lots of Japanese Text.)
Shutdown sequence initiated.Awesome! Looks like that list covers a lot of other genres that are also in great need of being brought back, such as flight sims and tank sims.
Another list, for those who don't know already: http://www.the2bears.com/
DFKBL comes out / ships out 2 days from now! (Or 1, since Japanese release dates are, well, in Japan time.)
http://twitter.com/raydere | http://raydere.tumblr.comSo I happened to find a boxed copy of Deathsmiles' Limited Edition at a used game shop for $28. Seeing as I know nothing about it other than that it's by Cave, it's a side-scrolling shmup, and that it's for a console that I'd have to borrow from someone else (I'm at college, finding an XBox 360 in my dorm won't be that hard if I have some free time), does this stand out as a particularly worthwhile game for me to invest my money in?
And "Reality" is unveiled. What did it want...? What did it see...? What did it hear...? What did it think...? What did it do...?Go for it. Deathsmiles shows that Cave can work horizontally. Just be prepared to react to the fact that it has less slowdown than the Japanese console version.
Some Pixiv finds.
- STG All-Stars, assemble! (Gradius, Darius, R-Type)
- Too bad my screen isn't 5:2. (Thunder Force)
- OH GOD!! (Battle Garegga, Raiden Fighters)
- Another New Year's thing. (Ketsui)
- Moe Silver Hawks. (Darius)
- Ika...hey, wait a second. (Ikaruga)

Guwange now has 3:4 support, though it is quite hackish.
I'll check it out tonight.
http://twitter.com/raydere | http://raydere.tumblr.comI linked that a few pages ago. dat ketsui arrange mode
http://twitter.com/raydere | http://raydere.tumblr.comArcade Zatsuza has been defeated, after over a year of searching.
WARNING!! THIS VIDEO IS OF THE GAMES'S TRUE FINAL BOSS AND IS NOT REPRESENTATIVE OF THE GAME'S DIFFICULTY AS A WHOLE. NEWBIES TO THE BULLET HELL GENRE SHOULD REFRAIN FROM WATCHING IT.
That video also includes a hibachi fight for comparison, and you can see that CAVE really made zatsuza a lot harder, except for the final pattern (which was hard enough already).
I may or may not watch it later.
In other CAVE-related news, there's quite a bit going on this week. Guwange has been patched to display correctly on a 4:3 screen, Deathsmiles NA version gets a patch that increases slowdown to what is hopefully the equivalent of the Japanese 360 version, and European players are getting Deathsmiles on February 18.
And hopefully I get my Daifukkatsu Black Label before Saturday when I leave for vacation until Sunday evening.
