Alright.

Well, even ignoring the fact that my character is captured, I'd still rather play some Dresden Files than The Shadow Of Greed. I'd like to poke around in the new setting a bit.

You shouldn't have to put very much thought into this fight: the trio is an even match against Prataab and Damien, make Thaddius and Josie swing the fight well in your favor.

I'm bad, and that's good. I will never be good, and that's not bad. There's no one I'd rather be than me.

Bleh.

On October 15th (the Friday after next), due to my dad and the PSAT, I won't be able to stay up late for gaming. Unless it's pushed forward, I won't be able to make it then.

Very well.

I still might pop in for the first two hours, though.

So let me get this straight: We're not having a session today, right?

No, we're having SotC today. I plan to sit in, but you and I are both still out of the game.

We will be playing Spirit Of The Century tomorrow, for a few reasons:

  • It has priority due to having run for longer.
  • There are more players in that game
  • Hikari is currently having computer problems and will be unable to make it this weekend.
  • You didn't bother trying to convince Taco, Jinxed, and arim to give up their slot.
  • If you can't be bothered to pay attention to both threads enough to figure it out without me making a special post to let you know, it's not worth scheduling around your desires anyway. evil grin

Due to me having midterms (and special events on the two Saturdays after midterms are over), Hikari lacking a working monitor, and arks lacking a working computer, the game is officially on hold until further notice. When we return (likely the second week of November, since both Hikari and I should be ready by then, and I'm not putting the game on hold for any one person other than the GM), I may just end up restarting so that there's actually a sense of momentum. In the mean time, the players are encouraged to make changes to their characters as they see fit.

To clarify, since it has come up: you guys will not be replaying the scenario as originally written. That being said, you will see some familiar faces, as I do think that the story of Anna, Matthew, [Redacted], [Redacted], [Redacted], and [Redacted] is an interesting one. (You do actually know at least one of the censored names, but listing anyone else with the other two is a bit of a spoiler.)

I'm going to put this game on hold for now so that we can focus on The Shadow of Greed. Hikari, since you're the only player left in the cold, please contact me if you're still interested in playing in a game.

Out of curiosity, what sort of game would you guys like to play after we finish The Shadow of Greed this Spring? I'm asking now so I can start looking around for a new system if we want to change systems or brainstorm a new premise if we want to keep the system. Things to keep in mind:

  • System—if you want a system with particular types of rules, or a certain system in particular, make sure to note that. Do remember that most of us are experienced with both FATE 3 and d20, but not much else.
  • Setting—sci fi, fantasy, real world, etc.
  • Tone—dark, comedic, etc.
  • Style—action, mystery, intrigue, adventure, horror etc. Also be sure to note if you have a particular preference with regards to player conflict.
  • Length—Would you prefer one-shots/few-shots or a full campaign? Or perhaps a few one-shots before starting a full campaign? Do your above preferences change if the game will only go on for a few sessions? (eg Player betrayal is ok if the game only lasts three sessions.)
  • GM—I need not be the GM for the next game, so if particular comments are based are particular to me running the game (eg suggesting that I don't GM a game that's already pretty dark), make sure to include that condition.
  • Criteria that are particularly important—for example, if you will not play horror no matter what, be sure to say so. Don't be a dick about this and treat everything as a dealbreaker—we'll all need to make compromises.

To be fair, I'll go first.

  • System: I really like FATE, so I'd prefer to run a FATE-based game, though I don't mind anything that's not too crunchy. Also, I'm looking at picking up a pdf that has all sorts of optional extra rules for FATE 3, which should make it fairly easy to hack FATE to fit any reasonably generic setting.
  • Setting: If it's not sci-fi or fantasy in some way, then I'll only run it if it's pulp-y or if it's character-driven. No generic d20 modern kthnxbai. (This is a deal-breaker.)
  • Tone: Any, though it should be noted that if a game is at all serious, I'll make it darker without thinking about it.
  • Style: Any, though I think it's also pretty clear that if the game will run for a sufficiently long time, I will end up over-complicating the plot. Player conflict only makes this more delicious, of course.
  • Length: I think some 1/few-shots before we start a new campaign could be fun, especially if I get a chance to pass of GM duties or if we play a particular style of game that a lot of people like, but one player really wouldn't (or would only like in small doses).
  • GM: Me, I suppose. While I would like to end up playing again at some point, I also know that many of you are not interested in being the GM.

I'm bad, and that's good. I will never be good, and that's not bad. There's no one I'd rather be than me.

I don't know, at this point, what the extent of my participation in future games will be. Nevertheless, for the record:

  • System - I'm amenable to a d20 system, a FATE system, or most anything else that is well-designed and reasonably balanced.
  • Setting - Not particularly interested in the real world. Any combination of fantasy, science fiction, pulp action or intrigue would be acceptable.
  • Tone - Not too dark. I play games for escapism, so I'm incredibly offput by Grimdark settings and Crapsack Worlds (for instance, I stopped playing Dragon Age even though I found the both characters and gameplay interesting, simply because the story and setting were too oppressively grim.) I'd prefer a mixture of silly and serious, if possible, but definitely erring on the side of lightheartedness.
  • Style - No horror. Also, I like a bit of complexity and intrigue sprinkled into everything I do. Other than that, I don't have a strong preference.
  • Length - I prefer decently long campaigns so that I can get used to a particular character.
  • GM - Dunno. I don't have much of a frame of reference, having only played in an Ironeye game.
  • Most important - Again, no horror. That is an absolute dealbreaker for me. It provides me no entertainment and leaves me disturbed and unhappy.
