Maybe...
Okay, now I'm excited for "The Son of Neptune". The first chapter has been posted, and Percy still sort of remembers Annabeth- whew. But yeah, I can't wait to see the Roman camp.
Yes, it's still in third person but I admire Rick Riordan for branching out. Maybe this one will have worked out the tweaks.
Also I totally claim: The ___'s ___ as the title of the third book. Search deep within yourselves and you will know that it is true.
One more thing- who will be the other 2 narrators? Roman demigods? And what are the differances between fauns & satyrs? I hope that's explored in depth in this upcoming book.
I still think Riordan should have stuck with first-person.
Warm hugs and morally questionable advice given here. Prosey BitchfestI honestly didn't notice he switched. I need to work on reading less passively.
That really depends. It's easy to switch between the two, especially switching from third to first person, since first is easier to write with, or maybe that's just me...
Well, I prefer third person in my writing but that's me. I guess it depends on the person. But yeah, I'll miss Percy's internal snarky commentary on everything during "The Son of Neptune".
Hey, could Reyna be one of the other narrators? That would be very interesting.
Frank and Hazel are the names of the other two narrators.
And the other three prophecy demigods are children of Athena, Hades, and Ares.
This is a sinkhole. So Annabeth, Nico, and Clarissa are strong possibilities.
You wouldn't care what people thought about you if you knew how seldom they did.More Clarisse is always fine by me!
SQUEE! Frank & Hazel... sound like interesting people. I can't blinking wait for "The Son of Neptune"!
More likely Frank and Hazel will be the children of Pluto and Mars.
I highly doubt Rick would make such an imbalance between the two camps. I think there will be three from CHB (Piper, Leo, and Percy), three from the Roman camp (Jason, Frank, and Hazel), and Annabeth to round out the seven.
Although, I would love to see more Nico as well as more non-pantheon born demigods. (Butch and the Hypnos kid just weren't enough.)
Also, do The Lost Hero and the Red Pyramid both take place in the winter after TLO?
This is a sinkhole.I think "Red Pyramid" takes place between "Last Olympian" and "Lost Hero" while "Throne of Fire" takes place between "Lost Hero" and "Son of Neptune".
I think so; actually, on second thought "Lost Hero" and "Throne of Fire" might actually be occuring in the same timeframe since both do focus on the winter solstice... o.O
Confirmation?
I think The Lost Hero and The Son of Neptune are stated to take place concurrently. I know The Red Pyramid takes place in the last week of the year.
I was thinking about how the two underworlds could coexist, but then I remembered this line from Runaways:
I dunno... it seems to imply that only Egyptians get up in Anubis' realm from Sadie's interactions with those peeved Roman spirits.
But I suppose the layered Greek/Roman underworld might be the 'default' underworld for modern humans due to how heavy of an impact those cultures still have on today's world.
Yay! My head didn't explode!
Double posting is bad I know... BUT!
I have "The Son of Neptune"!
SQUEE! IT IS EPIC AND I'M ONLY ON PAGE 300! Out of ~500.
Comments?
I just finished the new book and it was great. I liked how they set up the Roman camp, it's nice that it wasn't the exact same as Camp Half Blood
Yes, that was very nice. Now all we have to do is wait a whole another year for Book 3. At least it's not 2 years.
But I think Nico is going to get yelled at for the secret keeping... because he knew about the Roman camp going into The Lost Hero if he brought Hazel there a few weeks prior to Jason's disappearance.
Annabeth is going to kill him.
Just finished the first book. I really do miss Percy's POV. I didn't like it at first, but it really grew on me over time. AND NOW IT IS GONE. The general narrator is fun, but it is not Percy. But hey there's time for this to grow on me too.
The Lost Hero was a fun book. My favorite of the new demigods is certainly Leo. He's just so adorably awesome, I love him. And he tames steampunk dragons. What's not to love about that?
If someone wants to accuse us of eating coconut shells, then that's their business. We know what we're doing. - Achaan ChahIs it this series or Percy's series where he abysmally fails at capturing the truth of Mt. Diablo in California?
I've never read these books and haven't read the Percy series in quite a while, but I did overhear at one point someone reading the part where the heroes have to climb up to Mt. Diablo, which is described as having eucalyptus trees with a scent that calls and having cliffs, and most egregious of all, the summit is not a depression.
It's this one that has that.
If someone wants to accuse us of eating coconut shells, then that's their business. We know what we're doing. - Achaan ChahOH maaaaan my friend let me borrow her kindle to read Son of Neptune! I've been waiting since The Lost Hero and this is.... good so far.
Though I do kind of find it annoying that Riordan is using every opportunity imaginable to say that Percy faintly remembers something but can't recall exactly what it is. It's like, in every three pages.
And like most people in the thread I found that Leo was definitely the best of the trio in the first book, he had the most personality. I found Jason to be too dry, but I'll let it slide since the poor dude didn't have any memories.

That and he's Roman. I get the feeling praetors don't show much emotion...
Leo is awesome! "Supreme commander of the Argo II" and "yours in demigodishness" anyone? Even in cameos he's completely great!
And to be fair, it sounds like whatever amnesia Percy had was fading even before drinking the gorgon's blood in order to keep him and Jason on even footing... plus we (or I at least) would have annoyed if he did NOT remember about good cyclops & centaurs and other details.
Still, I miss his snarky narration but it's nice seeing from others' perspective.
I like Frank & Hazel. And Ella was randomly epic.
As you can tell I'm quite the mythology guy and I got to say I love this series. The characters are fun, love the mix between mythologies, and like the idea of the god's having multi personality disorders (which makes sense if you think about it ) Love the idea of how the Roman camp is basically set up as an old Roman town and I again I like the new characters and the character development with some of the gods.
I'm also glad to hear that Rick is going to delve into Norse Mythology, finally the holy trinity of Greek, Egyptian, and Norse mythology class lessons will be complete!
Also known as Achillesforever6 of Lordkat.com fameSince Aphrodite and Hephaestus are married... doesn't that make Leo and Piper stepsiblings or something?
Also, I'm betting on Leo being Sammy's grandson.
Don't think about it too hard... the demigods don't. And you're probably right about Leo.
Yes, and then there will be an epic crossover between the three!

Mark of Athena comes out on Tuesday. I already have my book on preorder. Though I am struggling to avoid spoilers since chapters two through five have apparently been leaked.
Maybe because Jason was doing it?
ophelia, you're breaking my heart
