A place for female tropers to hangout.

I used to have a t-shirt that had the thread title on it. It still makes me laugh.

Now...seeing as this is a thread for us females...There must be at least one post bitching about periods and the "Have a happy period!" commercials. No fuck your happy period.

Happy periods are crazy talk invented by Madison Avenue advertising mavens who never had a cramp or bloating in their testosterone riddled lives.

I didn't know how painful boobs could be until recently. They can hurt like hell.

When on my period or before I will get this hideous and incessant pain in my nipples. It bothers the hell out of me. END PAIN END NOW

I can sew I can sew! :D

I hemmed my dad's pants the other day. I made myself a couple tote bags. I also made a shirt and skirt, but they don't fit me well.

It isn't so bad to take meds for it. Just...annoying...AND PAINFUL. I really only take Midol when I have really bad cramps which is basically...the first two days of my period.

Yay! grin

Okay, so I'm currently trying to make a personalized artist's portfolio bag, because I can't seem to find one that works well for my needs. The goal is to make a bag big enough for my drawing board and pads of paper, that can survive being on my back in the rain while I ride my bike, and has enough pockets that I don't need to juggle more than one bag or worry about drawings getting smushed. This is the rough idea of what I wanted it to look like before I started, if you excuse the webcam.

I'm also making it by recycling a bunch of old pants, jackets, and/or bags that no one uses anymore, and use them for material. I imagine the result will be insanely chaotic, not the least because I've never made a bag before, but I'm still quite exited about the idea. I've been spending the last few days taking apart pants and getting everything ready.

It looks like a good idea.

The hardest part will be disturbing the weight.

Oh boy, I was clearly out of it at that point. Distributing the weight. But what I really meant is distributing the bulk. The drawing board is probably longer than your back. That means that it is going to ride up behind your head if you carry it vertically. If you try to carry it horizontally it could interfere with your arm and shoulder movement.

If by "pants" you mean "jeans", remember that denim absorbs a lot of water. If you want it to protect your stuff from weather, put a plastic or waterproof lining in it — at least in the area for the sketchpad. Or, take it to a dry cleaners once you have it finished and have them waterproof it.

I made myself an apron although it is a piece of crap. I made my family some place mats which are not a piece of carp. my mom got me a sewing machine for my birthday and I am gradually learning. I'm trying to figure out if i can work this new hobby into one of my stories. My sister in Law is amazing, she sewed my entire wedding dress. On the drawing board idea, it looks good, but I think i agree that it might get a little bulky behind your head.

Huh, I didn't know you could get something waterproofed at a dry cleaners. I'll have to look into that.

On the board blocking my head though, I don't think it will be much of a problem. For one I'm mainly going to be carrying it around with a shoulder strap, and for two I think I can situate it low enough that the edge of the board rests below the back of my head. Then again, having it lower could mess with me riding my bike, but I'll worry about that when I actually have the bike.

I've been thinking about making an apron too, actually. I've got one already, but I don't like how short it is. I might use some scraps from the portfolio bag to make a really long tie-on skirt or something.

Is it fashionable to wear empire style dresses with the underbust seams at mid bust right now or was the dress I saw just really ill fitting?

Bumping because I just got done cartridge pleating 120" of cerise wool skirt into 35" of waistband. I love the way the second line of stitching makes the pleats pop. I also love the way wool makes up. It makes me look like I am a genius seamster.

I have never managed to make cartridge pleating look good. I'm jealous.
