Chatterbox - Anime & Manga

Here's what I'm thinking the roster should be based on my requirements. I was going with 44, 22 and 22, but after your comment, I reworked it to be 50 base roster, and 10 DLC. I'm not confident, but this is what I'm working with.

Capcom

Capcom: all of these guys either had an anime, have an anime vibe to them, or holds nostalgia around the time of the anime boom.

• Darkstalkers: Morrigan, John Talbain (he's been requested for Capcom vs games for so long and I could see the Naruto characters comparing him to Rock Lee), Lord Raptor
• Devil May Cry: Dante, Vergil (wanted a villain), Nero
• Ace Attorney: Phoenix Wright (or Apollo, it's up to you)
• Power Stone: Edward Falcon, Ayame (thought she'd be a surprise pick and works well with the Naruto characters or if it's out there, replace with Strider Hiryu), Valgras (or Rogue, depending if you want the roster to have more villains)
• Viewtiful Joe: Viewtiful Joe (He had an anime and I think half of it aired on Toonami)
• Sengoku Basara: Date Masamune (Onimusha got a rep in Tatsunoko, Sengoku has an anime and I know people really really want this franchise to make it in)
• Street Fighter: Ryu, Chun, Akuma (most safe choices)
• Rival Schools: Batsu, Akira (Rival Schools has the Shonen vibe to it, and it did have a bit of anime opening ish from somewhere)
• Asura's Wrath: Asura (Cyber Connect 2 made the game. Do I need to say more)
• Breath of Fire: Nina (her Breath of Fire 2 incarnation/ Tragic Backstory kinda fits with the other Shonen characters), Fou-Lou (Wanted a villain, he planned from Marvel vs Capcom 3.). Also, the last B-O-F game had an anime preview. Plus I heard 5 and 6 didn't help the franchise much, which is a shame.
• Mega Man: Mega Man Exe, Harp Note, Bass Exe (Why Battle Network and Starforce? NT Warrior still has a cult following that wants Stream-Beast dubbed, Battle Network's franchise still has fans, Harp Note was voted for in the Capcom top 50 alongside X, Exe, and Bass Exe. And NT Warrior aired on Kids WB while Starforce aired on Toonami...well the first half)
• Monster Hunter: Monster Hunter (anime girl design lul, but she works well enough)
• Okami: Chibi Terasu (A lot of people miss Amaterasu and it'd be dope to have her kid)

Shonen Jump

For Shonen Jump, I'm thinking back to how unfair most of the hatred Jump Force's roster and DLC criticisms (not all) got especially compared to J-Stars Victory Vs, so my rule is this. With one exception, no series gets more than 3 reps.

• Dragon Ball: Goku, Vegeta, Frieza (I'm really, REALLY tired of Frieza in these games for having the same basic moveset and ultimate, Cell's fighting style is too similar, and Buu's too hated compared to the past two, but Frieza's the most iconic and if they do something like give him Golden Frieza or some moves from Super to distinguish him, fine)
• Naruto: Naruto, Sasuke, Boruto (I was thinking about cutting Sasuke and putting Madara in his place, but Madara will have people complaining, and Boruto's still ongoing and is worth the slot anyways. Adult Naruto/Sasuke, or Shippuden Naruto/Sasuke is anyone's call)
• One Piece: Luffy, Zoro, Kaido (No one gave J Stars flak for not having any other Straw Hats, but venom was spit when Boa returned, we got a villain to replace Akainu in Blackbeard, and Sanji and Sabo were the second most debated on. Kaido's more active in the plot, he's got two forms that work well for attacks and hyper combos)
• Bleach: Ichigo, Aizen (wanted to include Rukia though)
• Yu Yu Hakusho: Yusuke, Hiei (because Jump Force made me realize a lot of people will turn on Younger Togoro if Hiei isn't in there)
• Yu Gi Oh: Yugi (4Kids/Toonami veterans)
• Bobobobo: Bobobo (Just give him all the attacks J Stars forgot to give him.)
• Hunter x Hunter: Gon, Killua (Worked for J Stars)
• Jo Jo's Bizarre Adventure: Jotaro, Dio (Capcom worked on that Jo Jo fighting game from the 90s where the bird was freaking broken)
• Demon Slayer: Tanjiro, Nezuko (The new kids on the block and I barely have any female characters.)
• Assassination Classroom: Koro Sensei (A lot of the casts are teens/kids, it'd just be perfect to have him and the show's airing on Toonami)
• Shaman King: Yoh (I know, rights change, but if Shonen Jump could work out a deal for Kodansha, I'm done for it.)
  • (I forgot about these last two cuz I'm dumb)
• My Hero Academia: Deku (the most American of the heroes lol)
• Black Clover: Asta (because why not)

And then for DLC

• Shonen Jump: I needed to add more villains even though I wanted to include Jolyne but alas.
  • Madara (people will complain if he's not in so I don't have a choice. Only thing, I want is for Madara's awakening to be the Ten Tailed and not just the Susanoo. Leave that for Sasuke)
  • Marik (Kaiba got into Jump Force, and it'd be nice if Yugi got his villain)
  • Hao (easily one of the most dangerous and powerful Shonen Jump antagonists)
  • Shigaraki (his current state....but I can see this being controversial, so if you want him replaced, let's go with Hisoka)
  • Dante (I keep hearing from Black Clover fans how awesome the Dark Triad are so might as well, especially since him and Asta have beef)
• Capcom:
  • Bison (Was thinking of Gill for this one, but people really want to see Bison in a VS game)
  • Lady (wanted more female characters and I don't think there's a lot of gun users)
  • Donovan (Vampire Hunter vs Dio)
  • Gemini Spark or Protoman/Protoman Exe (Personally, I wanna go with Gemini Spark because in both the Starforce games but ESPECIALLY the anime, Gemini's freaking scary. )
  • Blade Master Alastor (A friend of Ignant Rizzy mentioned him as a replacement for Arthur in MVCI, and considering Viewtiful Joe hasn't been in anything for quite some time, having a villain from that franchise pop up would be an interesting surprise)

For all the Interactions

• Donovan hunts down Dio (he still has his vampire powers in part 3 right) while trying to prevent himself from becoming Dee.
• Dante vs Dante. Devil Hunter vs Devil....um..I really need to watch/read Black Clover
• Naruto being surprised Gemini Spark can close himself indefinitely
• Boruto introducing Ayame to the Hidden Leaf village while arguing whether or not they'd be strong enough to protect their villages.
• Hao and the Spirit of Fire vs Amaterasu to see who's got the better control over fire.
• Asura vs Akuma rematch
• Madara questioning if Raptor was summoned by Edo Tensei
• Fou-Lu boasting to Goku that he'll show them the power of a real dragon
• Fou-Lu vs Kaido boasting about who's got the better Dragon form.
• Yugi asking Mega Man exe and Bass exe if it's possible to make cards from the internet or in the future (cough, Zexal and VRAINS and Sevens)
• Dante helping Nezuko out after learning she's also part demon...devil...they're similar right?
• Phoenix Wright asking Deku if he wants to sue U.A. for liability damages (I'm joking)
• Frieza and Vergil boasting about how they've surpassed their fathers.
• Sasuke warning Akira to be strong to protect her brother or something.
• A Monster Hunter and Gon asking about what type of hunters they are.
• Dante or Nero hires Killua to help him with a job.
• Yoh tries to free the spirits Lord Raptor sacrificed.
• Koro sensei trying to advise and keep Deku, Asta, Batsu, Akira, Boruto, Ayame, etc, safe as if they were his students
• Koro sensei asking Killua if he was assigned to Class E to kill him only to be confusing him for Itona.
• Ryu comparing Dhalism to Luffy, other way around.
• Vergil being disgusted Bobobo has a friend that looks like him but uses farts (Gasser)
• Ichigo confusing Killua for Toshiro and asking how his bankai changed elements from ice to lightning.
• Deku asking Viewtiful Joe the chance for them to go to movie land and beat Gedow
• Vegeta to Bass Exe: "Does a Net Navi like yourself experience fear?!"
• Naruto sympathizing and comparing Nezuko's demon situation to his own with Kurama
• Deku tells Yugi he wants to be a superhero and Yugi saying it reminds him of a certain rising duelist with a hero deck.
• Morrigan offering to help Sasuke out only for him to reply that he's married much to Morrigan's shock.
• Akuma trying to tempt Goku into using the Satsui no Hado
• Naruto and Jotaro comparing Jiraiya and their grandfather's to being a bit "pervy"
• Sasuke and Hiei and Vergil clashing over their swords while Nero's just watching in the background annoyed.
• Killua testing Gemini Spark's power to see which one has true killing intent
• Ryu respecting Sasuke's path to walk a path where he can support his loved ones in the shadows
• Zoro wondering if Yoh/Amidamaru's fighting style means he's from Wano
• Nero and Boruto complaining about their dads.
• Yoh offering Chun-Li a chance for him to use Spirit Unity to talk to her dead dad, Madara to talk to Izuna, Sasuke with his parents.
• Morrigan not trusting Dio at all given how he reminds her all to much of Jedah.
• Aizen jokingly asking Phoenix Wright to be his defense attorney for his crimes against the Soul Society.
• Boruto wondering if Edward Falcon's Power Change suit is a Scientific Ninja Tool.
• Harp Note reminding Jotaro of the Red Hot Chili Pepper stand rocker guy who people were upset about made it into Jo Jo's Bizarre Adventure All Star Battle Part 4's roster.
• If Akuma has his Street Fighter V, Bobobo will try to warn him about the Head/Hair Hunters
• Monster Hunter daring to slay Kaido.

I can't think any more, and I'm probably forgeting several people on the Shonen Jump side....but it's all I can think of that won't piss too many people off.

So watcha think.

I find your roster to be extremely questionable Fake humor aside, you put a lot of thought & effort into it.

Jump VS Capcom should be a thing but right now, I can't help but think that there would Bamco X Jump before anything else.

So around December last year, the Shounen Jump + app launched a new title, Deadpool: Samurai, a collaboration with Marvel about the Merc with a Mouth.

And it's already more popular than all of Marvel's domestic releases despite only being available in Japan so far.

You know the Western Comic Industry is in the pits when a foreign Manga starring their character is doing better then almost all of their domestic Library aside from Immortal Hulk. XD

If the movies didn't already prove it, it's that people want stories with these characters, it's just that the ongoing floppy stories don't appeal too much to anyone for various reasons.

Speaking of original ideas people want but don't get, Sunrise is releasing a new original mecha property in the fall, Kyoukai Senki. It will be their first original mecha show since Cross Ange. Let's hope the reception is better.

Unfortunately, it's got the same lead writer who did Gundam Build Divers, and his other original works are pretty unimpressive as well.

So apparently the Crunchyroll sale is being delayed by an antitrust probe.

Huh, Solo Leveling with its extremely evil Japanese villains is still popular in Japan. Huh.

Mind you, everyone can put their vote, even those outside Japan. I put one for Frieren, if I recall. Though, obviously Japanese fans vote the most. Considering the many story I've heard of Solo Leveling, its quite a surprise. But then again, AFAIK, most webtoon that are translated into Japanese usually has a lot of things translated to fit better for local audience. For example, the characters names are translated into Japanese. Sung Jin-woo for example, in Japanese becomes Shun Mizushino. Who knows if they changed anything else. From what I've heard, any anti-japanese moment are scrubbed out of the japanese version of Solo Leveling. I actually have Piccoma, the app that serialized the Japanese version of Solo Leveling, on my phone, but never really paid attention to it before. Maybe its time I check some of it.

Solo Leveling might be more popular with people outside of Japan and the vote doesn't exclude them so there might be some spam/bot votes.

Also i suprise that Kusuriya hasn't have an anime yet. Like it been on that list for years now.

What gets an anime largely depends on the publisher, and even then specific editorial department. Kusuriya no Hitorigoto is published by Shufunotomo, who only seem to get involved with anime via their Hero Bunko imprint

Kusuriya continues to make this list and continues to not be animated. How many years must it make top 10 before they get on that, I wonder.

Strong placement for I Favor the Villainess too!

Speaking of that series, recently there has been a situation where Seven Sea Publisher edit out some content from the English version. What puzzling is the Why? The part they edited out is the part where the MC is having a self-reflecting monologue about her acting like a stereotype lesbian character due to her own exposure to that stereotype through the media she consumed while on Earth and make the Claire (the Villainess) feel uncomfortable.

Hmm. The idea of I Favor The Villainess is both appealing and also slightly worrisome. There's a lot of social commentary that I think would probably get removed from the anime in favor of superficial lesbian hijinks.

Remember how the new Tokyo Babylon anime got delayed because of plagiarized outfits...?

Jumping Jehoshaphat! I was going to say I weep for whoever was looking forward to it, but apparently this was waving every single red flag in the book?! What the heck?!

Netflix looks to increase appeal in Asia, doubling anime content. Netflix will premiere around 40 anime this year, "almost double the number of titles it released last year". Thoughts?

It'd be nice if they could release them on the season those anime air though.

The anime industry is barely hanging on as it, constantly overextending itself to make shows it doesn't have the resources for and this isn't really helping. Not that Netflix is solely to blame (anime is getting more popular so obviously everyone would want to make more) and Netflix did that animator training stuff with Studio Wit so they are at least doing something (though some of the comments by Wit's president are not inspiring confidence) but still..

Also I wouldn't be surprised that if some of the "anime" they make isn't actually from Japan since they have had success slapping that label on anything that moves. Even as an anime fan, I can't say I'm too excited that more anime is being made

Most of Netflix's original anime ouvre hasn't exactly inspire confidence.
