If you want Infernape to stay physical, you could grind it to Level 57 to learn Flare Blitz, which is just as strong as Fire Blast and has 100 accuracy. It has recoil damage, but you can just use healing items to fix that.

57 is kind of super late in platinum iirc, i forget the levels but i think cynthia barely breaches 60, if that

mixed infernape is super good imo

And then there was silence

Infernape has equal attack and special attack. In-game does not require specialization, specially with a 'mon with such stats.

Close Combat and Flamethrower will allow Infernape to waltz through the game. Perhaps Grass Knot and Shadow Claw as well.

Mmmh.

There's so much to remember.

Anyway, got killed by Lucian again. His Espeon plowed through my guys, and then I took it and Alakazam out, but Gallade was my undoing.

I also think I made an error: I taught my Sneasel WEAVILLE Dark Pulse, replacing it's previous Night Slash. I jumped at the higher attack, but forgot about whether it benefits more from a Special or Physical attack move (and I think it's the latter).sad

I'll possibly regret that later, but what can I do?

Yeah, Sneasel has piss poor special attack. Psychic types also generally have higher special defense than defense.

You should check if you have heart scales. If you do, you should go to Pastoria visit the move reminder. For a Heart Scale, he will teach a Pokemon an attack it has in its level up learnset; that way you can get Night Slash back.

I have 2 heart scales. Do I really need just one?

One per move, so yeah, good enough.

I'd also try to evolve that Sneasel; if you happen to have a Razor Claw, have Sneasel hold it, and level it up AT NIGHT. Weavile is a massive improvement (but remains unable to be an effective special attacker).

...Geez. I'm a dumbass.

I already evolved Sneasel into Weaville. That's what I have. I just derped.

Anyway, if I only need one scale for re-learning Night Slash, I'll take a trip to Pastoria and get that done before I do another run through.

May I ask if you could post your current/intended movesets?

Also, remember to stockpile on full restores.

Nah. I'm just trying to finish this off and the post game, and then get to the other Pokemon games I have.

Though I might teach Infernape Flare Blitz. Haven't decided yet. Gotta ask if the recoil damage is worth it. it has Close Combat too, so it's a matter of if I want both now that I've taught it flamethrower.

Flamethrower is better for the Elite 4; Aaron's Scizor and specially Flint's Steelix will take less damage from Flare Blitz, and Steelix will hurt you in return.

Then you have Lucian's Bronzong, which is designed as Infernape bait. That one will take more damage from Flare Blitz, but I don't think an OHKO is attainable.

Cynthia's Roserade will crumble to a Flare Blitz tho.

I'm playing Platinum, so Flint doesn't have a Steelix.

Oh true, Platinum has more than 2 fire types after all.

You may even want to have both attacks tho.

I guess I could get rid of Mach Punch, but I find that pretty useful.

Weak, but good for taking out a low health enemy first.

Infernape is already faster than most opponents. Unless your Nature and Spd IV are shit.

If you're heavily outlevelled, keeping Mach Punch is for the best. Infernape is fast, but many opponents will have Pokemon that are naturally faster or just such higher level that they still outspeed.

Infernape's Spd is quite high, and it will probably have some stray Spd IVs while NPCs tend to not have any. Besides, the only E4 Pokemon that can outspeed are opponents that Infernape doesn't want to fight, like Garchomp or Espeon.

My thoughts exactly.

Although right now I don't expect to get my level high enough to even with multiple play throughs.

...What I need to do is give my Garchomp a better ground attack than Dig. I'm not sure why I didn't teach him Earthquake yet. Either I gave it to someone else, or I haven't gotten it yet.

You get Earthquake in the same cave where you can catch Gible, so you probably missed it.

I probably didn't have the right stuff for it. Ok. Time to go back and take care of some shit before my next run.

Pretty sure you can get it when you first visit. It's a huge Disc-One Nuke in Platinum.

Shit. I need to check my inventory again. I might have taught it to someone else.sad

[up]If that's the case, you could ask a friend who has some spare Battle Points to trade you something holding one (or a level 91-100 'mon with Pickup).

No. Never mind. I got it. TM 26 right in my pack.

Phew.cool

While I'm at it, I need to may need to see about teaching Garchomp a better Dragon attack than Dragon Claw as well.

Though I guess I have to decide what attack he has I'll get rid of for Earthquake.

I don't think I'll really need Dig anymore, but I'm not 100% sure.
