Well, they were down to just a Pidgeotto with 10 HP left, which managed to defeat a Geodude due to the latter missing with Rock Throw twice and Pidgeotto getting a critical hit.
Then the opposing trainer sent out a Machop which brought Pidgeotto down to 2 HP, but Pidgeotto ended up taking it out too. Then the opposing trainer sent out another Geodude, and they were trying desperately to get to a Potion in the Items menu...but it turned out they didn't have any.
...At that point I left since their doom seemed pretty inevitable, and since they're back in Cerulean now it looks like that is indeed what occurred.

@strawberry: Yeah, but I'm only up to first gym in that game <_<*sigh* At least only events I missed in that game were shiny legendary beasts -_-; Which sucks as well, but not as much as missing all Gen V events(and V-Create Victini) besides libery pass Victin...

Caught Uxie with a Pokeball. Not. Fun.
I just noticed something; most box legendaries have similar differences with their cries, starting with Lugia and Ho-Oh. One is an agressive, loud cry, and the other is more like a particularly awesome burp.
If you want proof, look no further than Xerneas/Yveltal.
