I've noticed something of the sort on a smaller scale. The closest village to my spawn point is actually pretty large, but the villagers don't go anywhere outside of maybe a quarter of the whole thing.

Speaking of villages, how common is it for the inhabitants any given village to skew very heavily towards one profession or another? I was doing some mapping trips a while ago, and one village I found was inhabited entirely by clerics and librarians, not a single butcher, farmer, smith or nitwit to be seen.

On a different subject, the new snapshots have been very interesting. I particularly like the fish — especially the way cod and salmon will swim in groups and how the puffers puff up and sting you if you get close — and the new water vision mechanics.

Haven't played around with the game in quite a while, since maybe 1.8-9 come to think. Anyhow, between tips and examples online and a few tweaks of mine I've found a pretty nifty world gen preset.

{"coordinateScale":338.97183,"heightScale":254.47887,"lowerLimitScale":512.0,"upperLimitScale":512.0,"depthNoiseScaleX":338.85916,"depthNoiseScaleZ":338.85916,"depthNoiseScaleExponent":4.6555634,"mainNoiseScaleX":247.42958,"mainNoiseScaleY":212.22534,"mainNoiseScaleZ":247.42958,"baseSize":3.366197,"stretchY":13.035563,"biomeDepthWeight":4.077465,"biomeDepthOffset":6.056338,"biomeScaleWeight":4.746479,"biomeScaleOffset":0.28169012,"seaLevel":63,"useCaves":true,"useDungeons":true,"dungeonChance":8,"useStrongholds":true,"useVillages":true,"useMineShafts":true,"useTemples":true,"useMonuments":true,"useMansions":true,"useRavines":true,"useWaterLakes":true,"waterLakeChance":4,"useLavaLakes":true,"lavaLakeChance":80,"useLavaOceans":false,"fixedBiome":-1,"biomeSize":5,"riverSize":4,"dirtSize":33,"dirtCount":10,"dirtMinHeight":0,"dirtMaxHeight":256,"gravelSize":33,"gravelCount":8,"gravelMinHeight":0,"gravelMaxHeight":256,"graniteSize":33,"graniteCount":10,"graniteMinHeight":0,"graniteMaxHeight":80,"dioriteSize":33,"dioriteCount":10,"dioriteMinHeight":0,"dioriteMaxHeight":80,"andesiteSize":33,"andesiteCount":10,"andesiteMinHeight":0,"andesiteMaxHeight":80,"coalSize":17,"coalCount":20,"coalMinHeight":0,"coalMaxHeight":128,"ironSize":9,"ironCount":20,"ironMinHeight":0,"ironMaxHeight":64,"goldSize":9,"goldCount":2,"goldMinHeight":0,"goldMaxHeight":32,"redstoneSize":8,"redstoneCount":8,"redstoneMinHeight":0,"redstoneMaxHeight":16,"diamondSize":8,"diamondCount":1,"diamondMinHeight":0,"diamondMaxHeight":16,"lapisSize":7,"lapisCount":1,"lapisCenterHeight":16,"lapisSpread":16}

Screenshots

Gives you amplified sized hills and mountains while leaving flatter biomes like forests and plains, well, flat. You get flat rolling plains with towering forest hills and worn, ragged cliffs, buttes, and mesas. Mountainous biomes become jagged spires reaching the height limit, with many caves, tunnels, and overhangs and the occasional floating island. Floating islands look more floating-islandy rather than being flat strips of dirt.

Extreme hills will be massive ranges, but the forests remain more vanilla, so you'll get oasis-like features hidden in the middle with islands, lakes, and pretty venues perfect for cabins and tucked away farms.

Playing with shaders. Using the TME shader and optifine right now. If there was a way to keep everything but the excessive sun glare. . .

Oh shit, we're doing Customized presets now? I love those! Here's one of mine:

Preset

Explanation: Open this world and press F3 - every biome is technically some form of ocean. This world is the best result of my attempt to bring Alpha worlds back into the modern game in a way such as the Neo-Beta Preset brought back Beta. Because oceans can still technically bear trees and grass, all you have to do to make an ocean perfectly inhabitable (and oddly familiar) is raise the landscape heights on all biomes while setting the world to "only" generate ocean biomes.

Here's hoping 1.13 don't break it.

Customized worlds aren't available anymore in 1.13.

Most likely it was due to the "Flattening" that was done in the first half of 1.13 development (as the Minecraft wiki says, "Numeric block metadata completely phased out in favor of block states" and "Split, merged, created, deleted, and renamed a lot of blocks, blockstates and items"). I guess customized worlds would have been a mess with all the rewritten code.

I suppose they will readd it before 1.13 is officially released. Or maybe not, considering Super Secret Settings were never readded.

Sorry, but that's just not true. [up]

The snapshots removed Customized worlds. Because they're rewriting the way worlds generate in the engine, and have been for years. Right now, presets aren't available because they haven't been fixed yet: the world generator is running around with its hair on fire.

They're adding Customized back in before 1.13 is final. They'd be insane not to. That world type is one of the most useful things ever added, especially in Minecraft 1.8, and some people are dependent on it for special projects. Mojang says it's gone temporarily, but it's coming back once they've rewritten the customized generation as well, as they have said on Twitter. Customized is simply not ready yet, that's the bottom line.

@Anomalo It looks nothing like an archipelago. Try it yourself in 1.12.2, it's really interesting. It's basically a weird continent.

[up][up]Damn, it's true. I don't know why I thought it had been removed due to the block code rewritting in the Flattening, instead of due to the world generation change.

Just played a game with my bro.

First to die five times, no repeating deaths used by yourself or your opponent.

I won the first round with touching cacti, suffocating in sand, getting torn apart by wolves, getting blown up by a Creeper, and taking a nosedive into some lava. He managed to drown, fall from a high place, get zombie'd, and get spit on by a llama before I won.

Second round was you had to die all the ways your opponent died, with an extra death added to my checklist (slain by Stray) to make it a balanced five each. He won that one because I couldn't find a llama, but I made it really difficult by killing all the wolves I came across. tongue

He also couldn't find a desert with cacti, so he stole a potted cactus from an igloo basement, planted it on a beach, and used that.

Third round we created a new world, and did first to ten. I won with drowning, falling, wolves, Guardian, polar bear, llama, standing in a brushfire, triggering jungle temple traps, Stray, and Witch. He got nine, though; zombies, skeletons, spiders, creepers, endermen, slimes, lava, suffocation, and cacti.

It's pretty fun, I recommend giving it a try. Or maybe try it by making bingo charts first. tongue

So it seems the new version is out, unless you're a chump who bought the original version of the game.

Considering world generation overhauls in 1.13, I have opted to start a new world on the server. The map name is "Jeffrey" and the seed is "OVER THE LINE". Same plugins, same rules. If anyone so desires, I'll upload the old world to mediafire and post it to the thread.

Anyone interested in joining the server feel free to PM me and I'll whitelist you.

This too shall pass.

So with the new update's emphasis on aquatics, I had an idea for what will quite possibly be my greatest home ever. I've seen people build underwater bio-domes, and I've seen people build houses into ravines, so why not combine the two?

I'm going to find a deep-sea trench- the deepest, darkest one available, with magma vents and everything -and build a base into both opposing walls of the trench, with glass tubes connecting the two halves and providing a scenic underwater view.

Maybe plot a Conduit down in the middle too, for pretty looks and for if I need to go out for a swim.

Just hope I can find one in a tropical ocean, for reefs and fancy fish. Only found regular and arctic oceans thus far.

This is probably a dumb question, but idk where else to ask. I got a new desktop a couple months ago, and I notice it has a thing in the Start menu that says 'Minecraft for Windows'. Is this what the Minecraft wiki refers to as "Minecraft: Java Edition"? Because I've been thinking of not only getting back into Minecraft, but actually getting it on PC for the first time. If it's already on my desktop, that would probably be better than downloading it from somewhere else.

Unless it's "Minecraft for Windows 10", yeah, Java Edition is on the computer.

I've started building my deep-sea trench base, with glass walls in any room/corridor adjacent to the trench so you can actually see out into it. It looks stunning.

But the constant sound of fish, turtles, and dolphins dying against the magma blocks is a bit disconcerting. tongue

I've finally started playing again (for reference, my last couple of worlds date all the way back to 1.9). Found a nice seed to build on; I've been using song names from game OSTs for inspiration, and as it turns out, the seed "Postcard from Celeste Mountain" spawns you near a bunch of interesting geographical features/landmarks in close proximity, with some rivers and lakes, a coastline with some neat rock formations, a small ravine, and (appropriately enough) a mountain range that reaches all the way to the cloud layer.

I'm just building stuff in Creative mode at the moment, eventually planning to build a small city. I've dug out an underground canal connecting the coast to some rivers further inland, I'm currently building a harbor/dockyard, and I have sites scouted out for some farms, a town center, and a mountain lodge or two.

I'm quite fond of my seed. Spawn point is on a clover-shaped triple-peninsula consisting mostly of plains, hills, and forests, but if you venture up north to the mainland or take a boat out to sea, you find some neat biomes; a vast desert/savannah patchwork across the sea to the south, some swamplands north on the mainland, a jungle on the eastern continent, and if you sail southwest you reach an archipelago of small islands that are entirely flower forests; but due to being islands, the tree density is low so they're mostly just tiny hilly islands of colorful flowers with a few trees around the center.

Did find a mesa way up north past the swamplands, but yet to find any tundra biomes oddly enough. They're usually not that rare.

So, uh, while my boat was docked at an Ocean Monument, a Guardian got stuck in it. So I brought it home with me.

Since my base is already an evil underwater lair that will have many glass fish displays, should I use a nametag on it and get it into a pen somehow? tongue

I'm worried if I swim down to my base to get the nametag it'll despawn. Can hostile mobs despawn when sitting in boats? If so, I can just ask someone to babysit it for me while I go get the tag, but I'd rather avoid that hassle.

Necro!

So, I started to play PE again after almost half a year since my ladt play, and a couple of things:

  • Holy shit, this Phantom thing is terrifying. After staying up for five nights and getting violated by three of them, I was like "Jesus Christ, fine I will go to my goddamn bed."

  • Man, is it just me or do skeletons drop bones much less than they used to? By the time I got a dozen bones, I had enough bows to fill a small box.

Last time I posted here [up][up] I talked about bringing home a Guardian from a temple. I forgot to post some pictures here.

Here is Thaddeus the Guardian, chilling in his new home. I think he hates me.

Some screenshots of my sea trench base. Glass tubes run between the two halves.

Bonus pic: I don't think I'm leaving this temple the way I came in...
