Is it being misused?
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.From what I've read of the trope and history page, yes. A lot of people seem to be missing crucial required bit of the character actually remembering that they could fly at some point. They're adding things like Daffy Duck in there.
For example:
- In Lone Wolf, you have powers that can be useful in certain situation, but sometimes, the author forgets that the possibility you have that power may exist, and doesn't give you a choice to use the power.
- More commonly, the series has three levels of powers: Kai, Magnakai, and Grand Master. Most of the powers of one tier have lower powered equivalents amongst the lower tier. Similarly, someone of a higher tier always has all the powers of the lower tier, but only a select few of their given tier. This results in your character often being asked if he has a certain power appropriate for his tier (and bad stuff happening if you do not), but the author forgetting that there is no reason the lower tier equivalent - which everyone should have - could not be every bit as effective.

Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickDoes look like there is some confusion, but I think cleaning up the examples would fix the problem. There seem to be enough that fit, and the description itself seems fine.
^I've tried before. Multiple times. Inevitably people just keep adding non-examples, often the same ones.
This is one of those cases where, no matter how hard you try, the name will keep people from getting the real definition of the trope.
No, I don't think it's the name. None of them are related to the name in the way that they go wrong. I think it's the definition that needs to be tightened up.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickOops. Posted that on the wrong thread. Sorry. No, this one needs a rename. People keep thinking it's idiot ball.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickSo, does anyone object to a rename, or to the name Remembered I Could Fly?
Alright, I did it, though I haven't changed any inbound links yet.
This thread expired after 60 days of inactivity.
The trope is about someone forgetting they have a power that would be useful in their current situation, but then remembering or being remind of it. However, the name has people repatedly thinking it's just forgetting they had it.
For that reason I nominate we simply change the title to "Remembered I Could Fly".
