Greetings. This is the thread for requesting assistance with recovering a TV Tropes account for which you have forgotten the password.
Before posting here, please note that Get Known has a comprehensive set of instructions for managing your account. To summarize, password resets are limited as follows:
- If you have an associated email address, use the Lost Password link on the login screen to request a reset email. If that doesn't work, post here.
- If you do not have an associated email address but you are still logged in, you can register an email address and use it for recovering your password.
- If you do not have an associated email address, and have not used your previous account since September 18, 2013, we cannot verify your ownership for technical reasons.
- To verify ownership without an email address, and if you have used your previous account recently, you should be logged in on the same computer and/or Internet connection that you most recently edited or posted from.
- It is not currently possible for moderators to reset your password or change your registered email address. As a last resort, you may use our contact form to send a message to "The Staff".
Thanks for your understanding.

I signed up for TV Tropes during the pandemic and was only able to access my account once before it stopped working. I signed up with the username Elskamo and made sure my login details were autosaved but every time I attempted to login the page would get stuck loading. Changing to a different browser or device made no difference and I've been unable to reset my password. All the details for my username, password, and email were definitely correct and when I tried making a new account with the same username TV Tropes recognised it was being used but for some reason it won't let me back into my original account. I've tried contacting staff but never received a reply, according to the FAQ I may be able to recover my account by posting here?
RonNevermind, I fixed it.

Question: is there any backup method for altering my email address? A few years back my school changed our addresses from .edu to @mail.edu, so I swapped over my associated email on this site to a backup account belonging to my father. When I went to switch it back, it said that address is already in use, even though the only profile it is linked to on this site is mine. Is there anything a mod or admin can do to help me swap it back? Having to get my father to access any email copy of a query or PM is a real drag.
If you send a PM to me or use our contact form, you can tell us the address(es) and we'll look them up.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Hi! I recently accidentally deleted my password for my old account off my phone. Now, when I try to get my password back with my email address, it won’t let me. I do have an older account so it may not be linked to my email. How do I get my account back now? My account name was Burinnu and I last used it in at least 2021.

If your old account is 'burinnu', then there is no associated email. If you have lost your password, then there is no way for you to recover it unless your login is cached on another device, such as a laptop or desktop PC.
As a last resort, you may try sending a message to 'The Staff' from our contact form.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Is there a lockout if you use a wrong password too many times?
Not as far as I am aware.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"I created an account named “Legendary Beast” on this site a few years ago but I don’t remember the password and deleted the email associated with the account a few years ago. Would it be possible to change the email address or password of the account?
Unfortunately, if you have deleted the email address there is no way for you to prove ownership of the account. We also no longer have the ability to reset an account; that tool has been broken for years. I'm afraid you're stuck with this new one.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"While my PC (currently) remembers it, both myself and my kindle have forgotten my password and my account predates the e-mail requirement. Is there any way that someone could PM me my password?
Knowledge is Power, Guard it WellI highly doubt it, considering Fighteer's message on the account reset tool being broken. Maybe you could try looking through your shared passwords to see if one of your browsers remembers the password?
As a sidenote here, I'll point out the "add an email to your account" tool that may or may not work but has been sitting around for quite a while, although I don't think there's a way to revoke an email attached to an account.
Thanks for the tip. It took me a bit (I'm not too tech savy) but I found a it in my saved passwords list on my computer so I can use it now.
Knowledge is Power, Guard it WellHello, I'm actually Capt Hayfever. Apparently my account somehow doesn't have an email attached to it (though I could've sworn I used one when I signed up, but I tried literally every email address I've ever owned), BUT I do meet the other criteria: I've used my account recently, and I'm here on the same computer, same internet connection, & even the same browser that I've most recently edited from (less than a week ago, in fact!). Can I get any kind of help re-accessing my account?
~Temp Hayfever As I told you via the contact form, we no longer have the ability to reset passwords so there's no way for you to gain access to your old account unfortunately.
Macron's notes~Macron Notes: I didn't realize a reset would be the only way to do that. I guess I can keep trying to figure out what password I used before; it's really disappointing that this is the situation.
Okay, thanks. I won't list it on the bug reports.
If my post doesn't mention a giant flying sperm whale with oversized teeth and lionfish fins for flippers, it just isn't worth reading.
