This is the thread we use to talk things over with people who received a suspension notice. A lot of the time the notice goes out just so we can explain how seriously we take certain things, not because we want the person to feel bad and go away.

For a fun site, we're pretty fussy about stuff like grammar and spelling, for example. More than you would expect, considering that we do want the funny. Everything is better with the funny.

Leave a note here indicating you want to talk the suspension over, then hang in there for a bit. A moderator will be along to talk to you about the situation.

NOTE: If you see another banned person post something that you want to comment on, don't. This thread is for discussion between banned people and Mods - no third parties invited.

While you're at it, browse What to Do If You Are Suspended.

~Averagemoe: Because genres are not exactly like tropes.

  • They are indexes, and indexes do not require context.
  • They are not listed as examples in a work's article.
  • They are technically collections of tropes rather than discrete tropes in and of themselves.

This constant picking at our policies is just getting irritating now. Well, it was already irritating, but you know.

~Emperor Zim: Sorry, but we aren't buying it. You've posted several times to tell us that you have learned the rules, but despite repeated prompts have not provided any details about the rules you broke or how you intend to behave differently. Your TLP suspension will not be removed, and you will remain ATT-banned as well for misuse. Would you like to move this up to a total ban? We can accommodate.

~Justmenoworries: You've been a troper for over two years; don't give us this "I don't know the rules" thing. What is the proper action if you find yourself involved in a potential Edit War?

~The Laughing Fist: You have been involved in an Edit War on YMMV.The Owl House. You also don't seem to understand the criteria for Broken Base. It requires a sustained, divisive conflict. Please read the trope definition.

I based my entry off multiple review sources online, mostly youtube, where the other guy just said his personal experience was the reason he deleted it, but sure okay I lacked understanding.

How long am I suspended.

~The Laughing Fist: Tropes have definitions. Just because someone online said something doesn't mean squat unless it meets the criteria for a trope. You've been a member of this site more than long enough to know that, and to know that you don't just add something back if it gets deleted.

Put in at least a little effort here.

"TV Tropes is only interested in hosting a friendly, civil forum."

I see there is no further point to this conversation.

~TheLaughingFist: I'm curious what you consider to be uncivil about this discussion, but if that's how you want to play it then I guess that's that.

"Yup. That tasted purple."

Talking down to people is considered rude behavior. I gave a reason for my actions and was treated as a child it what can only be seen as disrespectful. I merely wish to know how and when I can be unsuspended, but if this is just ego stroking then I will have no part in it.

~PikaHikariKT, it's been pointed out that we skipped over your post a few pages back, and I apologize. It was not purposeful.

Your suspension is because of consistent issues with Zero Context Examples and Example Indentation.

~The Laughing Fist: The purpose of a suspension is to ensure that the behavior does not recur. You haven't shown that you understand either the definition of Broken Base or the Edit War policy despite invitations to do so. If you want to make this about politeness, that's all you, but you won't get unsuspended that way.

"despite invitations to do so."

Point of fact this the first time you have said anything on how to become unsuspended despite numerous requests and even still it doesn't answer the question.

This is literally your last chance. Explain to us the rules that you violated so we know you understand them.

I said "relatively". I should have informed myself better about the rules, that's true and now that I know that this type of editing is considered an Edit War, I'll make sure not to get involved in it again. Believe it or not I wasn't aware of the 'History'-page until now. From my point of view, my edit just kept disappearing, so I re-added it every time.

I've read up on the page by now, so now I know what the problem was. Again, I'm sorry. What more do you want me to say?

Send the person I think I may be engaging in an Edit War with a private message, either straight to their account or on the Discussion-page to settle it non-publically or ask the tropers, or report the other user.

That about cover it?

When creating a proposal for a new trope, a basic outline is not enough, it needs to be comprehensive, with at least three examples. It must never be rogue-launched, it has to have at least three net votes at the end of a period of several days.

Okay, I understand. I'm sorry, and thanks for getting back to me after realizing you missed my post. Probably shouldn't be posting on trope pages anymore til I remember how to do it properly.

~Emperor Zim: And as important as any of those is that, if people express concerns about your trope not being ready for launch, or if they tell you it's overlapping or duplicating other tropes, you pay attention to those and address them completely before launching.

I've been banned from accessing my messages - I'm not sure if this was due to a suspension being placed incorrectly (I'd have expected to be banned from posting on the forums given the "don't @ me" response I posted last night, but that doesn't quite seem to be the case) or if banning someone from posting on the forums also bans them from checking their messages, but I would like some answers.

~BlueMonday1984, it's not unusual for people to get a little irritated at notifiers, or PM's that point out mistakes or are otherwise disagreeing. It's not good, but it's certainly a known thing. A "fuck off" to a simple welcome PM is dickish to a different level. This does not happen again, or you're getting pulled back here and this will be a much longer, more difficult conversation.

Released.
