"Faceroll" is a term meaning it's really easy, too easy. The idea being that rolling your face across the keyboard would produce results just as good as playing correctly.

In the ongoing saga of getting a copy: Gamestop apparently got a shipment in, both online and in stores. I ordered from them early this afternoon and the order was confirmed but I'm still waiting on a shipping confirmation; not canceling my Amazon order until I get that. :P

Well, I drove an hour round trip to get to a Gamestop that actually has the game... installed it... patched the client... only to get stuck with "Lobby connection error - 3050".

Bah!

Man, what is with eastern MMORPGS and their token loli race?

In all fairness, the Lalafell are a Legacy Character loli race. Given their entire design is based off the Tarutaru of ff11

And really, they resemble a cross between walking dolls and Ewoks rather than "lolis" to me. If you're looking for the more obvious bait, the Elin are probably (and if not, should be) one of the more infamous examples of pandering, to the point where their censorship caused a serious schism within the playerbase. It'd be more accurate to say "token cute race" rather than token loli race when referring to the east's preference for such things.note

I used a Lalafell in beta, but I don't know if I'd do the same in the actual game, since I'd actually try to stick with one character then.

Eastern games have an obvious tendency to include a cute race because there is a segment of their audience that will only play cute characters rather than page three stunners or Arnie wannabes. It's usually neither a Loli nor a Shota race because both genders are catered for and there are games which provide anthropomorphic characters in that category as well.

Games where the cute race is single gender are in the minority, which is why TERA's implementation is so controversial.

I remember way back in the day when a concept screenshot was released of a back view of an Ivalice Alliance-style Moogle and a Viera riding Chocobos. I'd of loved to play the former in an MMO. Ah well.

Sorry for the double post, but I've run into one of the major ways they screwed up with this one.

There's one healing class playable from the start. If you're going to use a dungeon finder that adheres to the holy trinity, you've got to have more than one freaking healing class.

I have to wonder how long it's going to take before my hyun gladiator manages to find some pants.

I just ran the pirate instance healing with my Arcanist, so I suppose so. With the blue Carbuncle you're a subpar healer with a killer fennec blowing wind over everything, so we probably got things done faster than we would of with a "real" healer.

Holy purple prose, batman! The dialogue in this fame will never use one sentence when five are possible.

It's possible to max out every class, right?

Has the Lightning crossover happened yet? I'm still curious about what she's doing in XIV in the first place.

Advertising her game, of course. And no, not yet. It will be a FATE (random encounter of sorts), probably with the justification that, since she can cross time and dimensions, why not hop into over games, too?

Experiment. This is a great game for experimenting with solo content, since you mix and match certain class skills. I decided to try leveling Pugilist after getting a little tired of Arcanist and the healing spell Arcanists learn early made it possible for me to solo enemies several levels higher than myself.

That said, you might still want to focus on a single class up to about level 30, and run through the main story with it, leaving as many side quests as possible for your other classes. At level 30, just about everything in the game unlocks, and each new thing you unlock (notably rideable Chocobos at 20 and combat Chocobos at 30) makes leveling other classes that much easier.

this prtety much sums up half my issues with ff14 atm. (the other issue being that endgame is gated so badly that I('ve already given up on catching up to guildmates who have no issue with grinding AK for hours)

Yeah, FAT Es are a mixed bag. I love stumbling on one with a modest amount of players and helping take down a big nasty. I don't love when they spawn right on top of my current quest objective, or get zerged so hard that I can barely target anything before it melts.

Still, I'm hooked for the moment. I got in with a group of friends from Minecraft and we currently have one of the larger Free Companies on Lamia. The world and the atmosphere are gorgeous, the combat is fun (playing an archer with levels in conjurer and pugilist), the crafting is interesting (as long as you figure out macros to get through repetitive stuff) and the fact that you have _options_ instead of the grind-funnel that World Of Warcraft and its ilk feed you through is a major draw.

Honestly, thats half of why I'm burned out at the second. My free company is made up of real life friends..half f whom brought their friends from their diablo days with them..and they have far higher tolerances for grinding endlessly and doing everything yourself than I do.

the other half if that after you finish all your quests, the only thing left is FATES or running the very few instances that reward any mythology tomes, which feels like an even bigger grind funnel than wow.

Well I cant speak to the endgame yet, but I never got past the early game of other MM Os. So that's something.

I got back into this after a minute, and I'm reminded of one reason I can't really get into the story - I know racist undertones in fantasy is pretty common, but here when the writing is actually pretty decent and the "civilized" races are shown to be pretty multifaceted and realistically gray, it's really obnoxious to read lines like, "They're mostly a peaceable bunch, but beastmen will be beastmen." I'm on the slyphs now, and since Ramuh is presumably a boss, I'm going to assume that asshole will be proven right just to give me a loot pinata to beat up.

Roughly, the sylphs arent evil.

The problem, is anyone who's been tempered is slavishly devoted to their primal, which is why the untempered sylphs are so terrified of their tempered neighbors, and why its likely we'll end up having to fight the tempered sylphs to protect the Untempered sylphs eventually. This is also why Ramuh is a last resort of the sylph race. They know full well about tempering and are loathe to summon Ramuh unless necessary
