Vale mostly can be stupid because of either the Tank running in or pulling at an in approprate time... or someone getting knocked into other mobs by the big guy.
Unless I am tanking myself its always a shitshow.
Thinking of trying my hand at writing a lore guide for R Pers and people who are interested in worldbuilding, specifically on the nature of soul crystals and roleplay. Would anyone be interested in reading that once I get a presentable version of that ready?
Sure, go ahead.
... And that's called jazz! Why the hell not?
I've always been wondering if Job Crystals affect one's personality anyway.
I'll teach you a lesson about just how cruel the world can be. That's my job, as an adult.I'd be interested in seeing what you come up with, yeah.
It's been fun.Neat. I'm going down in a list job-by-job basically asking the questions of "How likely is this job for people that aren't the PC to learn it, how easy is it to find soul crystals, and what kinda unique statements can be made about them".
I'm only down to Scholar so far, then I'll have a loremaster friend help me basically proofread and fact check it, I'll get back to you guys after
Speaking off, PLD seems like one of the more standard issue Job stones but only recently.
Like they are the elites of Ul'dah and very exclusive but thanks to having to deal with corruption, they have to share job stones with any noteworthy Adventurers.
And then SMN is in a weird spot, like those 3 randos without the Echo and thus protection from Tempering are Summoners. I can't remember if they were given Job stones or not.
Also as it ever been stated where PLD get their powers from? Aether I know, but specifically?
I'll teach you a lesson about just how cruel the world can be. That's my job, as an adult. The only thing PLD canonically gets power from is protecting oligarchic capitalism and setting up weird psychological mind games where you make your students think you're dead before you force them to fight each other.
It's been fun.The PLD job storyline is kind of a right mess, it's only in 60-70 where it kinda puts itself back together (and that's mostly a continuation of the much better Gladiator storyline).
The idea of Free Paladins is basically just a trusted Sultansworn getting impressed by an adventurer and making them swear to become a Knight in Shining Armor, without any real connections to the Sultanate or the Syndicate, but it also operates on some kind of weird non-lethal Highlander rules.

White mages are also very strictly controlled. Black mages exist kind of despite what the thaumaturges' guild wants, but white mages outside the Padjali are very, very rare.
It's been fun.I actually know of a loophole that addresses that! It involves WHM stuff from 1.0, where they were basically tossing crystals at every trusted Conjurer out of desperation because the impending fall of Dalamud was making the elementals freak the hell out.
Now... Dragoon is going to be an insanely hard one to figure out suggesting alternatives, because the Order of the Dragoon is a well established order, and iirc it's stated there's only like 14 true dragoons (ones that approach the levels of strength as Estinien and Huestienne)
Edited by NaraNumas on Mar 2nd 2021 at 4:43:16 AM
Well, the history of the Dragoons is basically the history of Ishgard, the job having been invented and institutionalized there. And, since Ishgard is (or used to be) very xenophobic, only Ishgardians should get ahold of DRG Job Stones - in fact, the Warrior of Light's arrival marks the very first time in Ishgardian history where the Azure Dragoon (the top dog among the Dragoons) is a foreigner and shares the title with another person (Estinien) in the same generation.
Also, even though the stones are supposed to carry the memories from previous owners, no Dragoon seems to know that they used to be dragon riders in a distant past, not dragonslayers, which suggests that the stones started seeing use only after the Dragonsong War began.
... And that's called jazz!@Red Savant, the Free Paladins get their powers from protecting people now since the nameless capitalists are still off-camera.
But seriously, has it ever been stated what type of aether they use? Dark Knights use the abyss, and Black Mages get their power from the Void and the surrounding land's aether.
Which is why Black Mages are in short supply and most casters you see are the discount Thaumaturges.

I'll teach you a lesson about just how cruel the world can be. That's my job, as an adult. The nameless Monetrists have become a bit less nameless lately with the introduction of the final member of the Syndicate, Fyrgeiss Loetkilbsyn. And they seem to take all comers now, including Mimes.
So who's the Big Bad Monetarist of the PLD questline anyway? Are they even going to finish up this plot point?
I'll teach you a lesson about just how cruel the world can be. That's my job, as an adult. They haven't said yet but I wouldn't be shocked if its Fyrgeiss based on the BLU questline. The dude actually owns an army, has a lot of hate to Amalj'aa who have attacked his mines, one who also backed the creation of the Immortal Flames and always bets in the Coliseum.

At least it's super easy to get a BLU job crystal. There's a guy just handing them out.
I hit 80 on Summoner late last night and I seem to be at the the endgame for 5.0. The problem now is that I need to level Dark Knight and Astro to 79 (so I don't waste the last few quests) and the game seems to be throttling my EXP gains.

If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?Unlock Bozja via a quest in Kugane, once in Bozja you will find the best way to level 71-80.
What rank do I need to enter the upper map of BSF?
You need to complete the Ivalice raids to unlock Bozja
Song of the SirensNo I've done that and am already rank 4 in Bozja. I mean there's this magic wall preventing you to go more up the northern part of the map.
Also speaking of which the adventure must probably a walking case of emotional and psychological baggage if they took all of the job stones.
You have to keep going and advancing the story as you do, it's gated by progressing that. I think it's rank 5 for the middle, rank 8 for the top, then rank 10 to do Castrum
Edited by NaraNumas on Mar 3rd 2021 at 1:42:40 PM
Also note: a good deal of patience is required because of the Mettle you lose every time you die and the rather hefty amount you lose on top of that if you dare return to the base instead of waiting for a rez.

... And that's called jazz!
Find a group, shout in chat if you have to, and do FATES and then boss fights called critical engagements.
Then sometimes do the Castrum if you progressed in the plot enough.
