This was also during a time when the Coil was the only raid we had and there were no story mode difficulties, so of course raiders got used to it and got salty when nerfs were coming since they didn't like the idea of the lesser skilled getting the same (if outdated by that point) rewards. The booing is probably why Yoshi doesn't announce nerfs at fanfests anymore. I remember back then that the smug raiders that wanted to put down others said the complainers should just "watch the story on Youtube" if they wanted to see it that badly. With that line of thinking, nothing would stop the majority from doing just that, leaving the raids only done by the super duper minority, which in turn will leave the devs wondering if it's worth the resources to make raids that almost no one will ever step into.

There was also a lot salt thrown when the reveal of the Alexander raid had both a savage mode and normal mode. Of course by now, no one really cared when Omega followed the same footsteps.

It was a good decision to make the savage difficulty a non-canon bonus. They can have more elaborate stories that can tie into the main storyline painlessly that way. Midgardsormr being taken out of commission indefinitely by Omega is definitely something that will come up later, whereas Nael is just a loose end from 1.0 a whole lot of players probably aren't even aware exists.

They even added bonus phases with God Kefka and whatever Omega's Savage only form is, so if the prestige of experiencing exclusive content is what hardcore raiders are after they still get it.

Namazu grace our presence for the free login campaign. The devs really love using those little buggers and I love them for it.

[up]x2 and x3: Also "helping" is the fact that the raiding scene was nearly killed by Gordias Savage, i.e. Yoshida giving the "hardcore" raiders exactly what they asked for when they cried for harder raids that couldn't be blown through in less than a week. (Be careful mentioning this on Reddit or the Official Forums though, unless you want to see some serious mental gymnastics... or do go ahead and mention it, and have popcorn on hand)

Don't forget too that Gordias was deliberately tuned to be harder because the devs saw how fast people cleared the coils.

Also, I'm not against Namazu being the official FF 14 mascot. Yes, yes.

I found out that despite the wooden lofts in the game existing to make your own second+ floors with, there's no "legal" way to place most objects on top of them in a home or apartment. You can, however, exploit a glitch to float them anywhere you need them to be.

I don't know if I'm more amazed at the playerbase's ingenuity or more annoyed that they need to use a glitch to do something that is suggested by the item's description in the first place.

Speaking of Namazu, do think they'd like head pats?

Since the Hrothgar introduced the art of Gunbreaking you'd think they'd of revealed the job after the race, and not the other way around so that the key art could feature a Hrothgar Gunbreaker rather than a Hyur one.

I mean, the key art for most of the jobs aren't races reflective of the jobs origins. I think the Monk being a Hyur is the only one that might actually match?

Likely they just wanted to invoke a Squall lookalike

Could be worse, at least it’s getting some attention. When Astro was introduced they got absolutely nothing, which continues to this day for all the healers.

The Hyur in the job artwork looks nothing like Squall to be honest.

Also our Gunbreaker job trainer better be Squall's fursona.

They'll make references, but I seriously doubt they are going to do a Squall stand in. And on another note, I find it laughable that the "lore" reason for no playable female Hrothgar basically amounts to "too few for anyone to actually see them", AKA male Viera.

[up] That’s probably more an in joke to FFXI’s cat people, which did the same to their males, than Viera.

Male Viera do exist and in equal numbers to the females but live separately from the girls, they only make contact when they need to get laid or collect the boys who reach puberty.

So having eaten more chicken tenders than I've ever cared to the Omega raid was pretty cool. V3 is rough before you get the hang of starboard and larboard. V4's kind of easy in comparison.

The story was alright. I'm more interested to see how Midgardsormr being gone is going to impact things down the road, or if this was just a ploy to wrap up his story and write him out of the game.

O11 is the best fight in that Raid. Especially in Savage where he just throws everything at you at once.

I have a sneaking suspicion that Omega, in this universe, was made by the Robots and Androids and his existence - and the dragons being on Eorzia by proxy - is their fault and we'll have this laid out in the Nier raid.

Something I'm liking now that I'm seeing more lore for the Hrothgar is the implications they're a pretty advanced race in their own way, I had worries that being the token playable beast race would amount to "Me Lion Man, me badass", but it looks like they'll be closer to the Charr or Lizards instead, and I'm always happy when fiction treats a beast folk as anything other than just a step above cavemen.
