i think we have a trope for that

Tragic Monster

actually looking at the page it seems more suited to those who turn into evil out of their control, while Yotsuyu was very much in control of her hatred

It's more than just her family, and the silence of the rest of the domans. She was sold into prostitution, I don't think the clientele she was exposed to would have left a good impression of doman society either.

Basically she is someone who had a really shitty life, and the moment she got the power to do it, she took it out on literally everybody out of pure spite and hatred.

One thing the Ala Mhigan side did a great job showing was how that kind of thing beat the Ala Mhigans down. Doma at least had an oppressor to put a face to, in Yotsuyu; it seemed like the flipside to her desire to make Domans suffer was her desire to do it personally, so as long as you stayed out of her way, you might manage. The Ala Mhigan occupation was just constant crushing grinding, and I appreciated how they were able to make both the ones who had given up hope after twenty years and the ones who were still pushing to fight sympathetic.

The problem is it isn't believable that Ala Mhigans could even field anything, there is literally nothing left of most of their towns and the ones you visit have like 10 people in em.

The thriving port town Limsa Lominsa has like 25 NPCs in it. It's just a video game scale thing.

We haven't seen every single settlement in gyr abania, and we can probably safely assume that we haven't seen everyone who lives in the ones we have seen.

Even the devs pointed this out; whether its buildings/settlements or a Garlean army, things are smaller than they seem for the sake of keeping things streamlined and you just have to pretend there's more to it.

No videogame can realistically make an entire city, at full size, with the number of NP Cs it should have.

I've seen some try, but generally speaking those games only take place either entirely in that city or in a given district of it.

[up]Yeah, which was why I said 'at full size'. A city is just too big and populous for that to be viable. Even a game like the Total War series, where you can have several thousands units on the battlefield at the same time, heavily lowballs ancient armies that would have over ten thousand men fighting on a given side.

Yeah, before we got talk of SB 2, I was expecting all of the expansions' zones to just be various area in the Garlean capital which is supposed to be huge, with some on the outskirts. I'm glad it's not, but they made it sound like it had the potential to be.

I think a good way to judge an MM Os conservation of scale is the like, 4 acre large shot of Stormwind from the Warcraft movie compared to how in Wo W you can cross entire city on foot in 3 minutes of running, or how Goldshire is an inn and a blacksmith when it's like, an acre-large township in-lore.

They do use CG to show the proper scale of how things should be. The lead-in shot of the Eorzean and Garlean armies from the End of an Era video clearly showed thousands of troops on both sides, the sky was full of dragons over Ishgard in the Heavensward intro, and the teaser for 5.0 shows a carpet of Alliance and imperial dead across the Ghimlyt Dark.

I think theyre talking more in terms of town scale.

Though I do know that with Gridania, a majority of the city is closed off to adventurers

Is there something about the Lakshmi fight that people just can't grasp

because I was in 3 different groups and two of them were getting destroyed by the moves you need to use Vril to guard against.

Well yeah but

Everyone there had to beat Susano, Doma Castle, Bartam's Mettle, and every other mandatory piece of content in the game prior, and all of those had more complex mechanics than "press a button to not die."

People just... don't get it, I'm really not sure what it is, her moving to the middle of the room is an enormous telegraph

The last few times I've helped friends through Lakshmi, it's been trying to drive with square-shaped wheels, and because she doesn't hard-enrage there's a sunk cost to "Let's not wipe it up" Resulting in single-attempt, 30 minutes clears

I get scared when people need their clear now.

People are just dumb and/or unaware of their surroundings. It's too easy for groups to carry one or two dead weights and clear the fight so those dead weights never actually learn anything.

[up][up]Wait what? I thought she did have an enrage. I remember she'd do Divine Denial (the knockback) around minute 10 when no one had or should have any Vril left to avoid getting knocked out of the platform.

Did they change it?

Also, the reason why Lakshmi sucks so much it's because the only challenging mechanic is using Vril at the right time, and since everyone's overgeared these days, they just try to brute force it and forget that a couple of mechanics can't be brute forced. Like the OT cleave that can kill a group if they don't bring a second tank, or the knockback, or stacking for the confusion mechanic and getting the healers killed.

In other words, it's an easy fight with one hit kill mechanics. People get tunnel vision/overconfident by the easy phase and then screw up during the "hard" part, which is deadly.

It wasn't people used to the mechanics.

There was a RDM in the party who was brand new to the trial and I swear to god was killed by the center room AOE like 5 times.

We had to redo the fight thrice because they and half the DPS just could not get it or that you needed to drop the lotuses close to the edge.

Far as I know, Lakshmi doesn't have an enrage for hard mode.
