It's not that uncommon in literary criticism, actually. Many an essay has been written speculating about the history and inner life of an author, without being particularly bothered by actually finding out some biographical facts or corroborating evidence. Basically taking Death of the Author to it's logical extreme.
In our case, it's more like Dearth of the Author's Information that causes us to speculate.
I wonder if Tats has ever attended a con, even anonymously? He'd have a lot more readers — and possibly even a market for his books — if he made himself accessible to fans.
Tatsuya Ishida, heed my words! We're trying to help you!

He really could stand to work on communication.
Personally, I think he's fuckin' serious, based on the nuking of his forums.
Given how the average internet personality is treated on the internet, I can't say I blame Tats for wanting to stay anonymous.
This is.... good stuff. If Tats keeps up this level of quality my hob nailed whomping boots will have to go on vacation
If it does (and lets face it it does) reference Tats and how he thinks people see him, then I have one thing to add
Come off it, very few of us hate you as a person. It's difficult to truly hate someone whose delusional ranting has caused so many of us to have hysterical fits of laughter at the Tats-wreck.
What we do hate is the kind of feminazism that most feminists consider to be delusional hate-driven misogny and misandry being anviled as the one true way"
May this run of talented artist with decently written and reasonably funny strips continue for at least two more days. I could do with not having to lace up my whomping boots
P.S. Anyone else read what I posted above and thought "Yeah, wait for the trailer truck to be crashing through the car park again shortly?"
Sigh... maybe we'll get a chance soon to throw roses again instead of grenades
Edit: - Calling Monique a feminist is like calling Satan one of God's most powerful angels. Technically correct, but you're missing a lot of really worrying stuff out...

Well, those tomatoes are well earned.
Well, considering you left your best friend of over a decade to isolation, depression, and literally ignored him while your armcandy spat in his presence the last time you saw him, I have zero sympathy for you Monique.
With this, I am indeed waiting for Tats to ram the truck through the car lot again at some point.
Also Monique is not a victim of oppression, she's a victimizer.
This clip from Rick and Morty describes my feelings towards her. She thinks she's a liberator, but she really is Not So Different from the so-called oppressors she fights against.
So, your audience seems to consist entirely of people who would breath your farts if you offered, and people who don't take well to being blatantly insulted in your act.
There's a REASON I think Monique is a stand in for Tats.
Where do they keep getting the tomatoes? You'd think this club would start screening patrons for produce projectiles after a bit.
He doesn't need to be an "Internet personality." He could engage his fans in his forum and still retain his privacy. He could attend cons, talk to his readers face-to-face, participate in panel discussions, and still not give out his home address or phone number.
Scanning the list of webcomics that I regularly read, I note that the creators of Girl Genius, Questionable Content, Gunnerkrigg Court, Schlock Mercenary, Evil, Inc., Mare Internum, SMBC, and a host of others all have avid fan bases ... and they engage their fans at cons. They also create interesting comics, and they don't go out of their way to insult their fans.
As Crowley would say, Learn, guy!

The ego on this guy. Of course he would think the people throwing tomatoes at him are his "fans". You would HAVE to be so incredibly deluded to think that the people who hate your work are your fans.
Not enough tomatoes! Go for the coconuts!
Comics like this one reinforce the idea that Monique is an author avatar.
Respected artist, radical feminist, hot girlfriend, only obvious straw men as haters. She's what Tats wants to be if he ever chops his own dick off!
I know this is hilarious coming from someone who could rather fairly be described as "the queen of no chill," but can we calm it down, just a smidge?
No coconuts! Even if Monique comes across as so arrogant at times that she probably does bottle her own farts and sells them as perfume to her fans
I thought it was a good strip even with the blatant author avatarization and straw manning of his critics.
I'd even go so far as to say I believe Tats has upped his game recently vis-a-vis storytelling and humour
If the past teaches us anything about Tats, it's that when he produces decent stuff, it means we'll shortly be searching for new synomyns for the words "Dross", "Insane" and "Facepalm"
(Hunkers down and waits for Tats to hit an own goal so spectacular you'll be able to see the fireworks from Jupiter)

This is getting old. I know throwing tomatoes is old shorthand for showing how bad someone's show bombed, but here in the real world, it's assault. Especially when it's not done in the anonymity of a dark theater. Even though the easy response is; "this isn't the real world! See, they walled off reality!" or... "It's a metaphor for the way fragile white CIS boys can get away with anything!" It's just lazy.

In the Real World, the "Altoids Bomber" would have sued Miko, WokeMonique, and WokeMonique's coffeehouse for assault and defamation of character ... and won.
In the Real World, if half of WokeMonique's audience was her fans and the other half tomato-throwers, the brawls would rival the street fights by rabid soccer fans.

You're suggesting Tats isn't in touch with reality?!
@Hexapodia You may have a point there
Not sure whether to laugh at this terrible author avatar chick tract of a strip or just sit back and enjoy the fireworks
Sure glad I invested in that bunker on Io
P.S. Dear Mini-monique, the answer is almost all men were brought up by their mothers of course.
Behind every powerful man is an even more powerful woman, or didn't you stop to think about that?
Edit: -Poe's Law in action? This can be read another way as a really vicous jab against feminism. That title sure doesn't help

Sinfest makes me sick when it pulls this horse spit. I feel ill.
"All men are bad!!!"
Tats is a fuckin' NPC.
EDIT: DAMN YOU!!!

Phear my Stabbybird!
What a bigoted little girl.
Itís jarring that she feels this way, as Minique helped Theo see the light.
I was raised by a single mother, and I still stand that you and Monique could fertilize farms just by being near them.
Added fun, my mother was in the frigging Air Force, and served during something that happened in Italy in the 90's, while you and your golden calf just spout poetry and call that rebellion.
Not really. He saw the light and he still got left outside like a dog. And she wonders why men don't seem keen on coming around to her way of thinking.
