Because Kinkajou told me to.
So yeah, anything about Final Fantasy! I guess this would make a good starting point: Which are your favorite games in the series and why?
My two all-time favorites are tied between Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy IX. They're both very fun games that don't take themselves too seriously while still being legitimately emotional. On top of that, Zidane is my favorite Final Fantasy lead in the entire series. He's light-hearted, fun, and a generally nice guy to be around. FFV also has the advantage of having one of, if not the best, Job System in an FF game. Both FFV and FFIX make characters customizable while keeping them all unique in their own way. I'm also very fond of Final Fantasy I; it hasn't aged well, but it's classic, and like FFV, I played it tons as a kid.
I assume we'll drift around to various other FF-related discussions as the topic grows, right?

You know, I usually hate Amano designs by pure default (hey, lets give all the guys silver hair and make every single woman blonde!), but in Faris' case, it works.
I'm glad they kept the purple hair though, and I definitely prefer the Sprite looks for the other characters (Bartz especially, and Lenna as well).
One Strip! One Strip!Strange, you're the only person I've seen so far to not like Amano's work.
I'm not fond of it. I like how art teams have interpreted his designs, but I dislike his art style. It's very flat, and a lot of the characters have interchangeable faces.
It's at its best when it's depicting monsters and scenery.
All his characters look the same otherwise.
I wouldn't say that. But it's like the man's interest is in designing outfits.
The person under the costume? Meh, put some androgynous, long-haired nondescript body in there.

Amanos art for FF is usually sumi-e psychadelic paintings or woodblock paintings so they aren't really intended for functional character design. His actual character design work is much more restrained and distinct like in Vampire Hunter D or Gatchaman.
I think Amano is a fantastic artist, especially when it comes to monsters, but I'm not really a fan of his Final Fantasy character designs. I always appreciate his artwork but I'm glad the in-game designs usually take liberties from his initial concepts.
With sprites Im kind of iffy on if they are better. Bartz and co are a bit too plain and non descript for me. VI in general did a lot better with retaing the feel of Amanos designs in the costumes barring Celes.

I knew about Vampire Hunter D but I keep forgetting he worked on Gachaman since it's so different from what he usually does.
Weird. I'd argue Celes is much closer to her Amano design than Terra. Who in Amano's design has blond hair, a cape (Or like, three capes), some weird clown pants (Harlequin pants) and a corset.

I mean Terra has generally the same type clothes barring her swapped cape for shoulderpads (Which Amano himself did in some pieces) and a dyejob.
Celes went from yellow trousers and sleeveless top to her green leotard with a white cape. Which isn't really like any artwork Amano did of Celes.
All these complains about Amano's character design being "flat", it kind of reminds me of complaints about Tetsuya Nomura's designs being "excessive".
'Excessive' is the kindest word one could use to describe FFX.
Especially when it gives us this.
I think that Final Fantasy X actually has so many ridiculous character designs that it loops around to being kind of charming. Especially if you imagine that no one in Spira has fashion sense.
This song needs more love.Yeah the X designs are so goofy in general that I can't be too annoyed with any individual one.
Paine is the best White Mage.◊
I love that design and pose and everything.
I feel like FFX kinda works because everyone is dressed so strangely. Lulu still stands way out though, even if you include Paine.
I'm never gonna say FFX's design ever circles into charming. Seymour's is awful. He's cosplaying as pervert Arthur Dent with the dumbest hair in the universe. It kills the menace of the guy who is the main antagonist for most of the game.
And really, if people are gonna bring stupid outfits, let's talk about Leblanc, who besides wearing an outfit that'd make a stripper blush, Manages an outfit where her collar also is her skirt
It's like Dracula, Catwoman, a Clown, a Geisha and Power Girl's outfit all combined and went hot pink.
(Though again, nothing beats Eiko, the 6 years old wearing crotchless pants over a skin-colored pair of form fitting pants, because FF 9 wants to feel dirty about yourself)

Almost all cloth is all made by a few people on the tropical island of Besaid and everything else is basically scraps that people get their hands on. The fashion disaster and lots of gaps in the clothing make sense.
X-2's disasters are mostly cause spira has gone a little crazy with freedom, except Nooj who is literally half mechanical and likely covering up some serious scars.
Except it doesn't. It's not like the gaps are clothing that wore off or something, it's tailored that way. And it's easier to make a sarong to than to make assless chaps (Dona) or a skirt of belts. Plus none of that explains Tidus' idiot outfit.
But I salute your attempt to make sense out of FFX' clothing.
(Also, if they got technology to have a stadium with a ball of anti-gravity water inside, I'd hope they'd have pants technology figured out, between you and me)

It helps that they used her more androgynous looking Amano design.◊
