I've had my fair share of believing some weird ass things about puberty (especially female puberty) when I was younger, including:
- All late bloomers have small boobs and all early bloomers have bigger boobs than late bloomers
I didn't think it was possible for girls who hit puberty earlier to have small boobs and vice versa. Developing breasts at an early age won't guarantee you double Ds by the time you enter high school, and there are several factors that can determine when a girl could start growing breasts, such as heredity for example.
- Every woman bleeds for 7 days
For whatever reason, I used to think that every girl's period lasted for an entire week, and I was confused as to why I was only bleeding for 5 days as apposed to the "normal" 7 days. The average period lasts for about 3-7 days, although not everyone's period lasts for 3-7 days, it's different for everyone.
- Skinny girls don't get period cramps
I used to think that girls who were thinner than me were somehow immune to getting cramps. That is until one time, back in 9th grade, I saw one of my classmates all balled up on the floor, dying of period cramps.
- Women get EVERY SINGLE PERIOD SYMPTOM in the book. I'm talking cramps, tender breasts, bloating, mood swings, acne, cravings, ALL of that stuff.
Just like period lengths, I didn't understand that not every woman gets the exact same period symptoms, let alone the same period symptoms I get. For instance, I myself experience cramps, fatigue, tender breasts, and moods swings during my period. While some women may experience some of the symptoms I experience, others don't, and just like period lengths, period symptoms are different for everyone.

I lowkey used to think that all girls are supposed to start menstruating at age 14 because 14 was around the age where you start high school, which I find ironic, since I got my first period when I was 11. I used to think I was too young to start menstruating lol.
- Everyone begins puberty at the exact same age
I used to believe that all boys and girls started puberty in their teens because you go through puberty during high school, and I didn't think it was possible to start puberty before you even reached 13. Some people started to hit puberty as early as 8 or as late as 16.
