I have to admit, I understand nothing about the plot (I was distracted when there was exposition). But I am very happy about this series, and it doesn't matter to me why these people are fighting as long as it is very distracting.
The gist seems to be that the ninjas split into three factions after the war, and now they're fighting over who should be in control of that shinobi underbelly of society.

Episode 12: That's one hell of a season finale. I need more. If the anime isn't going to continue the story, I'm gonna have to pick the manga up. Would anyone know which chapter to go to?
Already expected UN to win and Kuro to get bodied, but didn't expect him to get outright murdered. Thankfully (?) he has a bunch of other siblings (honestly they seem more like clones) to fill in for him now that he's gone. "Gone" being a temporary term because brain transplants into cats exist in this verse.
Sasama seems to be working with the UN too? Though it's entirely possibly someone just copied her disguise.

Dialogue early on greatly hints that Sasama is already pissed at NIN... that she's already in UN is not a surprise. That's how she helped Kato out.
Also Kuro's siblings are really his siblings. A couple are twins and I know one of them's going to take over his NIN load.

I noticed something in the fight between Kuro and Yamada used stances in kendo.
Yamada IIRC used waki-kamae while Kuro used (I think) hasso-no-kamae.

Someone mentioned that UN also has a caricature on Japanese corporate culture:
The ninja leaders represent the board of directors. They are old grandmothers who suffer memory loss and act inefficiently.
The upper ninja(上忍) represent generals, chief executive officers, and company president. They lead company with other other company's agenda.
The middle ninja(中忍) are division managers and field captains. They work carefully to avoid the incoming political feud from upper management.
The under ninja(下忍) are grunts who suffer on the field.
