To me it sounds like the director's cut includes scenes that Snyder knows don't really add anything to the story, but wants to have be there just for pure worldbuilding. The regular version is probably going to be the better viewing experience

Well, the reviews so far do not look good… like, 9% on Rotten Tomatoes.

It’s Bright all over again.

[up]I at least hope Ray Fisher won't have another meltdown and start hurling accusations at critics.

It won't take long for people to say that Rotten Tomatoes is some kind of hive mind, that "gives bad reviews to movies I like", instead of simply being a compilation of different critics.

I still see a trend of some critics talking more about what they see in his fans or Snyder himself (something pretty useless to judge a movie) than about the movie proper.

We will see how it goes. It’s definetely a bad start, but Critical Dissonance is a thing.

I'm pretty sure more thoughts and love went into making this thing than went into The Marvels and it seems like critics still wanted to be kinder to the latter industrial accident for a reason or another. Go figure.

I don't hate Snyder but bringing up The Marvels is pointless to this conversation.

It's a space opera movie that came out recently and didn't hit a bullseye, it's up there for comparison.

Or we can enjoy, hate or analyze Rebel Moon on its own merits.

This is what Snyder's haters do with every superhero movie that comes out that is the "opposite" of what he usually does and it's equally obnoxious.

Yeah, “But the critics thought (insert title) was a good movie, so don’t trust them!” has never been an argument that really appealed to me. There are definitely plenty of cases of movies that were poorly reviewed and later got a cultural reevaluation… but there are infinitely more that were called bad and are still widely considered bad.

Well for now at least audience seem far more positive to it. 86% on rotten Tomatoes, it seems it really is Bright all over again.

I think the legs of it matters too. Bright had a very brief blip of popularity and relevance and then fell off a cliff because it turned out that no one was really interested in rewatching it. It's not really seen as a cult classic or as really enduring in any way.

That happened five years after Bright came out.

Though it probably didnt help that the screenwriter for Bright is a scumbag.

Even all of this aside, I don't get why we already have so many celebrating the fact this movie getting a bad reception from critics.

[up][up]Wait who's celebrating?

In any event I'll reiterate what I've said in The Marvels: If you really enjoy Zack Snyder's work (or Sofia Boutella in my case) don't pay too much attention to what critics or the box office or haters say. Still watch the movie bec you like the director and/or actors and not bec you want to jump on billion dollar bandwagons.

There was one review I saw that legit called this movie the "Cinematic version of an NFT"... I dunno what the dude meant by that but I'm guessing he really hated it if he compared it to an NFT.

Right now, on Rotten Tomatoes, critical reviews are at 24%, but audience reviews are at 76%, so that is something at least.

Not knowing the context, I'd assume that it's referring to how most NFTs are made out of randomly assembled parts. Since the movie is frequently criticized are being a patchwork pastiche of better media
