Rich Idiot With No Day Job is about a wealthy person pretending to coast by without a job, but actually does uses his money to fund stuff in secret, right? I'm only asking because every time I see it on a works page, it seems to always be describing somebody who's rich enough to basically do nothing at all, ala Upper-Class Twit or Idle Rich.

Trust no one.

Not just "fund stuff" but "Do actual, useful things" in secret.

Might be a case of Non-Indicative Name for the trope.

Bare minimum the trope is about a persona a character puts on, known for being rich but an ambiguity with what they do with their time and money, which is why "no day job" is a key part of the trope. If it is used to describe purely "wealth and high society" type of characters then that is misuse.

Do you not know that in the service one must always choose the lesser of two weevils!
