As part of Disney Plus Day, it was recently announced that a new Spiderman animated series produced by Marvel Studios is being made for Disney Plus. It's caller Spiderman: Fresh Year. The only information so far is from this tweet. There's no article yet.

Edit: I found the article. Craig Of The Creek story editor Jeff Trammell is showrunner.

"The animated series follows Peter Parker on his way to becoming Spider-Man in the MCU, with a journey unlike we've ever seen and a style that celebrates the character’s early comic book roots. Written by Executive Producer Jeff Trammel."

I'm down for a new series about The Spider Man. I'm on the fence about yet another Man of Spiders story taking place in his teen years, but I still like Spi-Man-Der, so we'll see how it goes.

See, I didn't even expect a Spider-Man animated series from Marvel Studios. Did anyone else see it coming? Or we're all thinking it came out of left field?

I wonder if they needed to okay it with Sony beforehand.

And I guess this will be showing us Peter being Spider-Man before he got drafted for Team Iron Man in Captain America: Civil War?

How do we know if it's an MCU Spider-Man series if it doesn't have the word "Home" somewhere in the title?

This is also a pretty neat loophole around Sony still owning the live-action television rights to Spider-Man adaptations. Also, I imagine we'll see Uncle Ben in this series. I guess we'll be seeing the Homemade Suit for the majority of its first season?

Disney does own Spider-Man's animation rights, so it's probably easier to do this than, say, a live-action Tom Holland series.

Cole Harrington is a storyboard artist for the show (as mentioned on his Twitter profile). He's worked as a storyboard artist on Elena Of Avalor, DC Superhero Girls 2019, and Santiago Of The Seas.

Yeah, last I checked, Disney is free to do Spider-Man cartoons so long as it's 30 minutes or less (think USM, the Spider-Man cartoon from 2017, and the currently-running Spidey and His Amazing Friends on Disney Junior).

Sony meanwhile can do Spidey cartoons that go beyond the 30-minute point (think Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse).

Hmmm. Given that X-Men: The Animated Series got a recently-announced continuation, I wonder if that increases the chance of seeing similar continuations for Spider-Man: The Animated Series and Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes later on. (I would throw in Spectacular Spider-Man, but that's still a legal conundrum and a half, so never mind.)

In my lifetime I have lived through seven Spider-Man origins.

Ooh, they're going full Ditko-style with this. I like it.

Not gonna lie, I was hoping the name was a fake out and he'd be a COLLEGE freshman.

I was really hoping this was about Peter college.

So it's specifically an MCU Spidey prequel, and is presumably their way of getting all the Spider-Man content they're not actually using in the films out of the way / into the universe.

This was probably inevitable. Sony, after all, doesn't have Spidey's film rights, and an official Spidey TV tie-in to the MCU is a no-brainer.

Considering the art direction is aiming for Spidey's "comic book roots", I wonder if we're going to get something similar to the Ant-Man shorts from Passion Pictures?

Alternatively, to a lesser extent, the Art Shift from Ultimate Spider-Man: Nightmare on Christmas.

As pointed out, visually, the series' character designs seem to be in good hands with Leo Romano.

Okay, I'm actually tentatively excited for this. I hope we get to see more Spider-Man lore and MCU versions of other classic Spidey villains in this one.

I'm really liking the art style for this one

We finally have reveals for this upcoming animated series:

• Season Two is confirmed, with the subtitle Sophomore Year
• Spidey will wear variety of psuits from his comic book history
• Harry Osborn, Nico Minoru, and Amadeus Cho are among the recurring characters in the cast.
• Charlie Cox is voicing Daredevil
• Rogues gallery includes Dr. Octopus, The Rhino, and Scorpion.
• Norman Osborn is Peter's mentor figure here.
