"You fucking moron," Heidi snapped at him. "Now look what you did. She's having a fucking panic attack 'cause of you."

"Right, as opposed to how sane and helpful you're being." Loki rolled his eyes.

"OH MY GOD! WHAT THE HELL!?" she screamed, recoiling away from Loki in her chair. "HOW THE HELL DID YOU—GET AWAY FROM ME!"

Loki sighed — this had been fun up until now, and now she was screaming — and tried to adopt a calming demeanor. Heidi sort of had a point; this was at least partly his fault. "Look... Amanda, was it? I won't hurt you, I promise. I'm —" Loki clearly doesn't want to say these next few words, but does it anyway — "a normal, human being. Just like you. This is just a thing I can do, is all. I won't do it again if it freaks you out."

Outside Ms. Hughes' class

Just as Mindy attempted to stop Gill from heading into the next class, Gill responded back, determined that he is going to go to Pearlman's. Which might get him in trouble since it's not that class period yet. She felt it was time for another lesson. But then Gill scolded her again- this time, both her and Coralie- for their plan to de-age Ms. Hughes. But not known to Gill, however, was Mindy did get the memo. After both Coralie pretty much described here to the T. And then Gill, after he firmly told her to give people a chance. It was something she was thinking about all weekend since their Saturday night together. Mindy was wanting to talk to Gill more about this at a later time. Perhaps another beach trip. But right now, with all the chaos going on behind them?

"All right, you just hold on there for one second, Gill!", Mindy asserted herself in a way that's a mix of her being defensive and trying to knock some sense in Gill's head. "First things first, you can't just go bargin' in someone else's class when it ain't even the time to do so. Sure, I guess you can say Hughes's class is over, but the period ain't. You'll get in trouble if you go there right now. And second, what have we learned from Hughes anyway?! Every second, it's infraction, infraction, infraction! Look how many she's given you all just because you don't have a last name!" Mindy paused and wondered does he have a last name? "You don't have one, do ya? Whatever, that's not important now. What I'm sayin' is I'm surprised Hughes doesn't give us infractions just for breathing. Now that I said that, her younger self might hear that and get ideas. Gill, teachers like her ain't normal. I've had some bad teachers before, but they're all Sesame Street characters compared to Hughes. And I can say if she taught me somethin', it's how much I could actually hate a teacher!"

It was then Mindy pushed herself to keep talking because Gill's accusation didn't really sit well with her. "And you know somethin' else, Gill? That was an act. Me burnin' that stupid infraction paper? That was only to get her attention. And boy it worked!" Mindy couldn't help but chuckle at Hughes's reaction, not that it's helping her case any. "It's not like Corals killed her. We just wanted to get Hughes outta our hair for a period. Is that really bad?"

Now she was really getting worked up.

"And you know what else, Gill? I got what you said. What you told me about the sharks, the dolphins, the octopuses, the whales. The whole thing with the bike. I got it! You don't see me starin' fights with some of the new people here, do ya? Yeah, I get it, I'm the mean girl from Brooklyn who pushed people away because she's afraid of gettin' hurt. You're right. Corals is right. You're both right. Happy?"

Just saying the last of these words drained Mindy out. What will she get next, another lecture? She just hopes she can muster up more energy, whoever says the next words.

Monday, Little Haven, Oddity High, Ms. Hughes' class - Lynn Polyhymnia the quadruplets who want to give you a sarcastic congratulations.

Linton sighed, and stood up, folding his arms disapprovingly as he looked at Loki and Heidi. "Could you both just chill out and give her some space?" the green dressed quadruplet told them.

Marilyn didn't look all that impressed by Coralie's response, and looked even less impressed after Coralie hurried over to the transformed teacher and tried to do some damage control. "You're right, this is such a good break for her, isn't it? Sitting there confused and terrified," Marilyn said aloud in a sarcastic tone, while walking over towards Carolyn's desk. The yellow dressed quadruplet placed one of the work sheets on top of the desk, then moved on to do the same with Lindon two seats behind Carolyn, before turning to make her way to Linton's desk.

Carolyn and Lindon meanwhile both stared with disapproving expressions at Coralie, Loki, and Heidi.

Vivian saw how scared and upset her teacher was, and the general bad mood most people were in right now, and turned back to Blake.

"You want to just head out until next period?" she suggested. "Maybe we shouldn't, but it's not like we're having a real class at this point."

"Yeah. Still gonna grab a worksheet. Yaknow so when she returns and asks for them I'll have the work done, yaknow? And also it's good to actually do the learning when we can."

With a sheepish little laugh to cover for any awkwardness in his remarks, Blake gathered his belongings, walked over to the front desk to grab a worksheet to complete later and then headed for the door.

Ms. Hughes' Class

Thankfully, Amanda's gun-induced suggestibility meant she took Loki's "normal human being who can just do that" explanation way better than any sane person would have.

"Oh, I—I'm sorry, I...didn't know that." She could tell that something was off about it, but she couldn't put her finger on what. "I...it should be fine. I don't want to..." She awkwardly trailed off.

At that point, her brain finally caught up with what Coralie had said...and what Marilyn had said. New student...break...and it was apparently because of this sciency girl. "...Is this some sort of...exchange program thing?" she asked Coralie. "Are you a teacher's assistant or something?"

She was still super nervous and confused, but it was a start.

Outside Ms. Hughes' class

Gill's expression lightened a little bit, still frowning but not looking as upset.

"I know Ms. Hughes isn't a very good teacher," Gill responded. "I know nothing about how teachers are supposed to be, and I can tell that's not it. I just... I want to learn here, more than anything, I want to learn how to be a human. If Ms. Hughes can teach me that, I want her to. Even if she's insufferable... if there's no other option for English class," he explained.

Mindy then admitted she pushed people away because she was afraid. Gill put a hand on her shoulder and looked down at her.

"You don't have to worry about getting hurt. I won't let you get hurt. You're my friend. What would make me happy is to see you happy," said Gill. It was then that Gill saw Blake exit the room. He smiled at his potential soon-to-be brother. "Hi, Blake. Mindy and I were just talking.

Meanwhile, Heidi furrowed her brow, before noticing Blake also head towards the door.

"Whatever," she grumbled at Linton's chiding, and she stepped away from "Amanda," heading for the door herself. "I'm getting outta here. This place is dead anyway."

Jackie was mentally begging Heidi not to leave, as it would probably get her in massive trouble again. However, try as she might, she just couldn't take control.

Classroom

"...Is this some sort of...exchange program thing? Are you a teacher's assistant or something?"

"u- Yes! Yes. All those things, in that order!" Coralie forced a smile, pointedly ignoring Marilyn's quip and the judgemental glares of her siblings. Things were starting to cool down, reel it back, reel it back. "I'm the Teacher's Assistant here, and the Teacher's Assistant says...everybody goof off and have fun!"

She grinned with her arms outstretched in the air, frozen in place for a second or two...then went "Okay, no, not really," and let her posture flop defeatedly. That was never gonna fly. Never mind that Hughes' suspension of belief could only stretch so far, even in her trance-like state, the hostile atmosphere rapidly building in this classroom would put the lie to any notion of 'having fun' being a set task.

She sighed wearily, "The name's Coralie, new kid. I got stuck as TA to Mister...Humbert, the English teacher, even though my speciality is obviously the Sciences." She scooped up one of the textbooks and handed it over to Amanda, using elements of truth as she rapidly constructed this fiction around herself. "The lazy git's so hands-off, too. He told us to go to page 162, read a five-minute page for half an hour, then he expects me to pass out the worksheets while he's off on one of his regular period-long smoke breaks." By this point, the nervousness was mostly out of Coralie's system, and she'd fully affected the character of a long-suffering TA.

Outside Hughes' Class

Mindy shook her head upon hearing Gill's explanation about Ms. Hughes. Gill's the enthusiastic one, she'll give him that. And she's also seeing for herself Gill's not quite as naive as she originally thought. She had likened him to a little kid; someone who doesn't really know better. And while there are things Gill still has yet to learn, she's also surprised how astute he is at some things. But she also sees Ms. Hughes for what she is. Sure, Gill might be eager to learn, but she doesn't think Hughes will give him what he wants.
"Gill, I can see you like to learn everything you can. But I just don't think you're gonna learn all that much from Hughes. She seems more interested in givin' out infractions than tryin' to teach us stuff. I mean, at least Perlman, Davis, Morgan, guess they're all right for teachers... even if they're not clued into what we really are. You'll learn a lot more from them than you would Hughes. Trust me, she is a shark."
Then after Gill put his arm on her shoulder, Mindy's face lit up. She wrapped her hand around his hand on her shoulder. Well, Gill, I... I... I'll look after you too. I... I... She really couldn't talk right. Just something about him that made her want to drop her defenses. Just as Blake showed up, Mindy's eyes bulged out of her head as her face glowered red. Uh, hi, Queens. Yeah, what he said, Mindy said as she put her back to his body while still holding his hand, not even realizing it as she addressed her fellow New Yorker. Then it dawned on her. Her eyes still bulging out of her sockets as she separated her body from his. Then noticing she was still holding Gill's hand, she let go. Mindy chuckled, hoping to cut the tension. So what's goin' on with you, buddy?, Mindy said, still chuckling because that's all she could really do.

Inside Hughes' class

Layla still wasn't sure what to make of what Coralie and Mindy did to Hughes. She just paid no mind to whatever Coralie was talking about as she watched Blake leave the room. Blake, where are you- she stopped herself. She was expecting him to get a worksheet for her. So much for that, she guesses. She just sighed as she went to get one herself. She went back to her seat and turned to Marilyn. Shall we get to work? If you don't mind reading everything off for me, I'd appreciate it. I can't really read well.

Monday, Little Haven, Oddity High, Ms. Hughes' class - Lynn Polyhymnia the quadruplets who wonder how this was expected to be 'fun'.

Carolyn rolled her eyes at the behaviors of Coralie and Heidi. The quadruplets watched the latter leaving, considering briefly whether they should stop her... However, with their recent revelation and therefore suspicion of whether her whole 'two minds one body (sort of)' situation was actually genuine or not, plus a helping case of not wanting to be bothered, they opted to not intervene.

Marilyn sat back at her seat, and held a couple of extra worksheets forward and left for her brother Linton. Linton turned around and took them without any prompting, setting one down on his own desk. Before getting to it though, he stayed standing, and looked at Coralie. "Well, 'Humbert' is going to be back eventually, and when he is, he's still going to expect us to have this done," the green dressed quadruplet pointed out, and put the extra worksheet down on 'Amanda's' desk. (Because hey, even though they disapproved of this whole thing doesn't mean they weren't going to try to get some catharsis out of it. What better than making Ms. Hughes do her own schoolwork for a change?) "So we should at least get this done before just goofing off, right? It shouldn't take long anyways."

After passing the worksheets forward, Marilyn looked to Layla. "Oh, you can't really read? I wasn't aware," Marilyn said in an apologetic tone. "Well, do you already know what connotations and denotations are? This will be pretty easy if you do," the yellow dressed quadruplet added, scooting her desk over a little before preparing to read off from the worksheet.

Now that he was out the door, Blake took a moment to step over to Gill and the others around him before dropping down into a criss-cross sit to work on the worksheet.

He glances up at Mindy briefly to make sure she knows what he means by that.

Gill looked unsure, but nodded, not noticing how flustered Mindy was getting in the slightest. Instead, he just smiled at her, then looked at Blake who had sat down on the floor to work on one of the papers that Hughes was supposed to hang out.

Oh yeah, I have to go grab one of those, he thought. When Blake seemed to insinuate Mindy for what had happened, Gill took his hand off of Mindy's shoulder, then glanced at her as well.

"Mindy told me she was just trying to get Ms. Hughes' attention so Coral could do... whatever it was she was doing," he explained. "I'm not sure about it either. But what's happened happened, unless Coral could change her back..."

At that moment, Heidi stepped out into hall, grinning at Mindy.

"Why the fuck would we change her back? Keep her that way, I say," she added. "Who needs an English teacher? What you and the other girl did was awesome. Anyway. I'm heading home. Gonna pick up a smoothie on the way, any of you wanna come?" Gill looked confused.

"But school's not over yet," Gill protested. Heidi scoffed a little and shook her head.

"You think I give a fuck? This place fucking sucks. Anyway, you're welcome to come. Specially you, big guy," Heidi replied, flashing Gill a playful smile and flipping her hair slightly. Gill just furrowed his brow and looked even more confused.

Oddity High Halls

Vivian was truthfully a little tempted to follow Jackie out of the school right about now, but resisted it. It's true, her first impression of Oddity High wasn't great, but... she'd rather not just leave this soon.

"Coralie said Ms. Hughes' would be back to normal by the end of the period. Obviously what she did was pretty out there, but I really don't think she'd keep her like that. It's probably best that we just wait for that to happen, and then just... pretend like none of this occurred. I don't really know how we'd even explain this to Hughes or anyone else for that matter, you know? Or if anyone would believe what actually happened."

She takes a seat next to Blake, working on her worksheet as well.

"English isn't even my first language, but this is still pretty easy..."

Ms. Hughes' Class

Amanda cautiously accepted the worksheet from Linton. "Th—thank...you..." Something about him handing her the papers had unnerved her in a way she couldn't exactly describe. (It was the fact that he had grabbed them from Marilyn without her prompting him to. She hadn't consciously noticed it, but her subconscious picked up that something was off.) She put the paper on her desk and stared at it. Her mind was racing, so while her brain knew it should be looking at the paper, it didn't bother to take in any of the words, so she just sat and stared. It took a good minute before it even occured to her to pick up her pencil.

Her pencil. Where was her pencil? Did she lose it? That's fine, don't panic, she probably has a spare in her bag.

...Where was her bag?

"Where's my bag!?" she shouted, panicked. Did she lose it? Did she really lose her bag on her first day at this new school? She stood up and started frantically looking around the room.

Val, meanwhile, had returned to their seat and did notice the weird way Linton took the papers from Marilyn. (They sure were perceptive for someone so hard to perceive.) "...psst...Marilyn..." they quietly said to her, "...did you see how...um...the green one...he took the worksheets from you without you telling him you had them...sorry, I know there are more important things to be worrying about, I'm just a bit confused...I don't like...how do I put this...not understanding stuff?..."

Yeah, yeah, I'm sure Corals can find a way to change her back. Course I don't know anything about that science stuff, but I'm sure it'll be fine, Mindy addressed both Blake and Gill, who were both still unsure about Mindy and Coralie's little plan. It was just then Heidi came along, complimenting Mindy over the plan and announcing she's leaving the school. Mindy had no intention of leaving. Despite her part in transforming Hughes, Mindy was no rebel. She willingly went to school and did her work on a daily basis. Even if some of the schools she attended weren't exactly the best. But she did have her friends that gave her something to look forward to. Still, if Heidi wanted to leave school, that was her business. She didn't really care. It was Heidi putting herself on the line. But then it was her trying to get Gill to go with her, and seeing her intentions, it was time for her to say something.

You have fun with that, Mindy dismissed Heidi. But I ain't goin' anywhere, and he's stayin' right here, she asserted herself, grasping Gill's arm and pulling him closer to her. Mindy shot a sharp look that stabbed into Heidi.

With Marilyn, Layla addressed the yellow quadruplet. It's true, I really can't read. She certainly couldn't without her head anyway. If she had that again, Layla could read just as well as anyone else. Watch TV, play video games, all of that. In fact, she loved opening up a good book. Some of her best memories were reading a good story while enjoying the outdoors, sitting out on the bench at her childhood home, at the park, or even the school library. But it was something she couldn't enjoy for the past five years. Missing her head, Layla only had a limited amount of sight. She could see presences of people well enough, as well as objects. But it did not aid her in reading whatsoever. In fact, she felt a bit embarrassed asking for help. But as she had no other choice, she had to have someone read to her. Yes, I understand what connotations and denotations are. I have no issues understanding the meanings. It's just the actual reading itself I can't do physically. Was it a disability, not having a head? It sure felt like it for her.

"Oh, flibbity gribbit..." Coralie threw up her arms and buried her head in them. Teach was getting in a panic again, and there seemed to be no surefire way of stopping it. Her bag, her things! Of all the lamebrained items to forget. It's not like there was any way of just magically appearifying all the items specific to her- OH, wait, lightbulb, of course there was!

"Don't panic! Do not panic!" Coralie gripped Amanda by the shoulders and resisted the temptation to slap her. "If you've lost your bag, your whiz T.A. can get it back for you in a jiffy. Lucky for you, I've cobbled together an apparatus for just such an occasion!" With a wink and a finger-gun, Coralie dove back to her own bag and started foraging inside, hoping that she was still carrying around that very gadget that might be so very useful right now.

"Aha!" Here it was! From the depths of her oversized backpack, Coralie pulled forth a tripod-mounted projector-like gadget and kissed it. Then she rushed to the nearest outlet, plugged it in, and began tinkering with the back of it. Those who weren't newcomers would recognise this device. It was the very first one she ever demonstrated to the class- the Incarnate Beam Machine that summoned in a boombox that played a song cover from another timeline.

"Just give me two halves a minute, and we should have your stuff in no time!" Coralie peered through the scope at the back and began fiddling with dials and buttons at incredible speed. Now came the hard part: location Ms Hughes' personal timeline, projecting her entire family tree, and then bumping the integers and adjusting family members' birthdates juuust enough that it would be probable for Ms Hughes to be born several decades later, and have her backpack with its various contents in this identical room! All of that put together meant that finding the precise probability was like a rat navigating a maze built for a baby mouse.

"It should help the process if I know your full name for this. What was it again? Mandy? Agatha? Phyllis, or something?"

"I'd rather not leave school," Gill explained, still looking baffled and glancing at Mindy, noticing how Mindy clung to him. "I've got a lot to learn still. I was just going to my next classroom when Mindy stopped me."

"Learn, schmearn. Shit, am I the only one in this fucking school who knows how to actually have a good time?" Heidi responded cynically. "This school is fucking full of Jackies. Whatever, handsome. Linton jumped a little at Amanda suddenly freaking out again, and looked at her with concern before looking at Coralie with a little confusion. Between not knowing what the scientist was planning, and feeling uncertain about whatever it was even working, the green dressed quadruplet decided to take a more simple and straightforward approach. "It'll be alright. What do you need? One of us can just let you borrow a spare," Linton told her, in a reassuring tone.

Meanwhile, Marilyn glanced at Val with a raised eyebrow. "You don't know? Well, it's just an identical sibling thing," the yellow dressed quadruplet answered, a bit dismissively, but kept her tone kind. "Now sorry, I'm trying to help Layla," she added, and turned her attention away from Val.

Over at the left side of the classroom, Lindon was keeping watch on Val. Which was perhaps weird, since he was definitely too far away to have heard the questionably-existent student, and therefore shouldn't be perceiving Val at that moment. Meanwhile Carolyn had sat down and started on the work sheet.

Ms. Hughes' Class

Amanda was confused when the TA offered to help her find her bag with...an "apparatus"? Not knowing what to say, she just stared as the weird girl pulled some kind of...what even was that? Some kind of...bag...locator? It had to be, there was no other way it could have helped.

And it...needed her name? "Uhh...Amanda? Amanda Hughes?" In her bewilderment, she hesitated significantly before saying her name. Huh, maybe that Linton guy was just confused about something.

Speaking of which, that Linton guy was now offering to let her borrow things, which seemed a lot simpler. "That...that'd be easier, yeah...I just need a..." Her brain, overexerted, momentarily forgot the word "pencil", and so she just made a gesture of her writing something. Hopefully that would get the point across.

And speaking of the quadruplets in general, Val had recieved...something that was supposed to pass for an answer, apparently, even though it explained nothing. "...oh...okay...what?..." They were still pretty clearly confused, but they felt like asking more would have been awkward, so they just silently returned to staring at their desk. (They also failed to notice Lindon staring at them. Attentive or not, they were on the opposite side of the room.)

And just to complete the set of Lynn activities, the worksheet was incredibly easy. The front was defining words that were at best vaguely uncommon, and the back was sorting words into "good", "bad", and "neutral". It could probably be completed in under five minutes by the average high-schooler.

Oddity High Hallway

Heidi would be, if not stopped, at least paused by Mr. Davis coming out of his classroom as she walked past.

"Bathroom's that way," he said, pointing his thumb at the opposite end of the hallway. "...Hey, I don't think I saw you this morning. What's your name?"

Down the hallway

Heidi turned towards Mr. Davis as he looked to point her to the bathroom. Heidi scoffed a little bit and shrugged, shaking her head.

"What's it to ya? I'm not supposed to be here," she said. "Anyway, I'm not going to the bathroom, I'm going home." She continued walking towards the stairs.

In and around Oddity High

Mindy just watched Heidi as she walked away, raising an eyebrow at being called a Jackie, whatever that meant. Heidi already didn't make the best impression on her when she urged Mindy to start more fires. Still, she figured if Heidi wants to skip school, that's her business. Between her making the moves on Gill and the fire comments, good riddance to her. I think that's one of those sharks, Gill, Mindy responded to the merman. Hang around her, you'll get in a lotta trouble. Look, you wanna go back to Hughes' class. I'm sure we can figure somethin' out if you wanna learn somethin'.

Layla just listened to Marilyn and Val's conversation before they went back to their studies. Right, now where were we? she asked.

Oddity High - outside Hughes' classroom

Gill just kept an eyebrow raised, thinking for a moment. Heidi definitely seemed like a bad egg, but there was more to this whole situation that Gill felt like he didn't know. Still, he knew that he absolutely wanted to remain at school, so skipping school wasn't on his agenda in the slightest.

"Yeah, let's get back inside," Gill told her. He started to walk in, noticing Mindy was still holding somewhat tightly onto his arm. He put his other hand on the hand on his arm, walking with her towards the door with her.

He stopped, however, before re-entering the classroom. He was starting to have a suspicion, but he was so inexperienced with human ways that he had to make sure.

"Actually, Mindy, I wanted to ask you something. I love all of the attention you've been giving me but. I don't see anyone else here in the school being this affectionate with anyone else. The only place I've seen people do this, is on the beach, when they're..."

Gill turned more to face Mindy, his cheeks lighting up ever so slightly.

"Mindy," he said to her in a quiet voice. "Are we... are we... a couple?"
