I want to apologize if this is against the rules or goes into some other thread.

I will begin by remembering my dear teacher from College, Augusto Roa. RIP.

My dad, for instilling in me a lot of my core values and for being the model for a good man in my eyes.

It hasn't happened yet, but my father-in-law is on his deathbed. Along with being just a good guy in general and a great father to my wife, he helped foster my love of anime and manga.

I'll add an anecdote about my dad, something I just remembered that had a huge impact on me growing up. My dad loved Westerns, both classic and revisionist ones, which we used to watch a lot when I was young. But he did not enjoy the portrayal of Native Americans in the majority of the older Westerns he had seen, because he felt that The Savage Indian was not just an unfortunate stereotype, but he saw it as bullying. He grew up dirt poor and lost his home due to war, so his sympathies were by default with the natives and he did not approve of what he saw as the glorification of the conquest of the Americas, because he felt that it was the continued beating of a downed opponent. It went against his sense of what is fair and just, so he preferred Westerns where the natives were shown as more complex and likeable people. His attitude affected me and my views, which is part of why I myself don't like seeing people bullied or entire cultures downtrodden by dominant forces.

My maternal grandmother might just have been the most wonderful human being I've personally met.

She was always nice and loving to her whole family. At least in her senior years, when my parents were too ocupes with work she cared for me and helped raise me, she instilled a lot of good emotions and treating others with care and compassion , she had lots of friends and it was always a good thing to see them. Her home was practically my home as a kid, and she always showed a lot of love for me

Not to mention very accepting of change. One of my family members came out as LGBT, and she accepted them in spite of their parents having a hard time accepting their orientation. She was able to talk and counsel them until both them and their parents patched things up.

Overall, I always will remember her as the most positive influence in my life
