Kinda weird to think we had a game announced before this.
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."A sad bit of news. Jang Sung-rak, the artist of the Solo Levelling manwha, has passed away.

Dost Thou Desire the Power ... Glove? It's so bad.RIP.
Not only was he the artist of the Comic, he was the CEO of Redice. We've lost a good talent in terms of art today.
Watch SymphogearDang. Rest in peace.
What a real shame. He was on his way to becoming one of the most famous webtoon artists in Korea, if not the world. RIP.
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel.I'm genuinely torn up over this. He hard carried SL with his art alone. Pretty much every single spread he made was a fantastic work of art.
And he was so excited over SL's anime just a few weeks ago, too.
Hitokiri in the streets, daishouri in the sheets.Anime teaser:
They Got the Statue of God Smile down to a tee, 10/10 adaptation already. XD
Watch SymphogearNew Trailer:
Looks like they're keeping the Korean names after all. There were rumors before hand that the anime would use the official Japanese translation which swaps Korea with Japan because of the whole Anti Japan stance the Jeiju island arc onward had, but that seems to have been debunked.
Watch SymphogearMore confirmation this is using the South Korean script, as Sung Jin Woo is outright reffered to by his original name as opposed to his official Japanese Novel translation (Shun Mizushino, I recall).
And it seems like the first season will probably end on the first "Arise" sequence, which would be a nice place to end it for sequel bait.

Watch SymphogearEpisode 2: And thus ends the most interesting part of the story haha. Not that the adrenaline-junkie action afterwards is awful, but I always had a soft spot for the high-stakes puzzle dungeon atmosphere of the Temple of Cartenon.
Eh, It serves it purpose, but thats not really the point of Solo Leveling, XD.
Watch SymphogearCan't really say im a fan of the anime so far. The pacing feels kinda off, with the flow regularly being broken by things being explained that at that point really dont need explaining.

Its more in tune with the Light Novel as much as it is the Webcomic, apparently.
Watch SymphogearDoes the light novel have many differences?
Besides all the Korean names being Japanese, the setting being changed to Japan, and Japan being turned into a made up country? I've heard there's minor plot tweaks.

When I say Light novel, I mean original webnovel.
It had the set up for the Jeju Island arc that the Manhwa version didn't have, but the anime has.
Watch SymphogearOh in that case. The entire ending of the original work is different than what the original ending (pre "side stories") of the manwha was.
I think it was also confrimed that the anime's first season is a split cour. I can definitely see the first cour end with the first Arise segment (W Igris) and the Second Cour end with the Jeju Island arc's conclusion. The second season can start with the Giants Invade Japan arc and end with the Finale of the Manwha pre side stories, with the side stories being an OVA of sorts for a Blu Ray/ Home Video release.
Watch SymphogearThat would be ideal. Or they just go with the original web novel ending since the back half of the side-stories was just to tie into Ragnarok.
While I don't post here, I thought I'd point out that I've been able to check the Japanese voice tracks for SL. There's one version that uses the Korean names and another that uses the Japanese names.
IIRC, it's from CR (JP - KR name voice track). The ones from Amazon Japan (for instance) use the JP - JP name track.

"Exit muna si Polgas. Ang kailangan dito ay si Dobermaxx!"SL OP by Sawano:
I have heard that the background OST for some of fight scenes (or people getting annihilated) is made by the same people that did Attack On Titans music? Is that true? I feel like I can definitely hear it if true.
Edited by Feyspeaker on Jan 28th 2024 at 12:59:50 PM
Yes. The OST was done by Sawano Hiroyuki whose done the OST for such things as Attack on Titan, Guilty Crown (my first exposure to him), Seraph of the End, Kill la Kill, and Aldnoah Zero to name a few.

For anyone looking for the song that plays this episode while Jinwoo slaughters the lizards.
As for thoughts on the episode itself, like I was telling a friend online this is probably the edgiest the series really gets, where he's all like "AHHH, I've gotta kill these guys" and it's like "Oh, you have to kill a bunch of murderers who would've murdered you and the other guy if you hadn't killed them? Oh no...." I just found it funny that was portrayed as this morally ambiguous thing when really, no it wasn't.
Dost Thou Desire the Power ... Glove? It's so bad.
Arise, for the Anime announcement.
