Netflix's Sonic Prime

I still think it's fantastic that Shadow's establishing moment in this series is "There was an earthquake! Better go punch Sonic in the face just in case it's his fault."

I do wonder if any of these characters are going to get some development in the series.

Def the variants because there's a lot more room to give them development since they aren't the original versions.

I fully expect Rusty Rose to have a redemption arc.

A lot of show is "Sonic comes across a variant of one of his friends who is lacking in one of the traits that makes the Prime version so great, so Sonic inspires and teaches them to overcome their faults and gain Character Development to regain those traits."

Some of them are quick arcs, like Thorn, while others like Nine and Rusty seem to be series-long endeavors, but it's pretty consistent. Every dimension has at least one.

And I liked the twist that after all season of inspiring characters to be better people, Sonic then inspired Dread... only for Dread to take that in an entirely negative direction because he's a shithead.

I... don't recall Dread being a shithead? Been a minute since I watched this. Sonic convinced him to go after the treasure when Rusty Rose and the badniks went after it. What happened there that was negative?

Dread was kind of weird for me, to be honest, because they kept teasing that he was a dark character with unsavory tendencies and selfish inclinations. But it never really paid off.

Like. They make this big fuss about how he's only out for himself, how he's obsessed with the treasure, and how he doesn't value the lives of his crew. Like. They really go hard on setting up a Heel Turn. And then they reach the treasure, and he's a cool dude and a valuable ally and everything is fine.

There has to be more to this, right? Like we're going to come back at some point trying to gather all seven Chaos Emeralds Prism Shards, and he's going to be an obstacle to that?

The place they chose to cut it makes it pretty obvious that we're coming back to it.

Remember that the season, as it were, isn't actually over. What we got isn't the complete story of the season - animated shows on platforms like Netflix get cut in half.

We have Sonic rallying Dread's crew to come together and claim the universe shaking treasure, including Dread - who has Sonic's trust but secretly indicates to the audience that he doesn't give a damn about his crew and only wants the treasure for himself. Sonic pushes them to the prize, but they're attacked and in the throes of danger only Dread can get there... with Sonic's help.

Dread finally approaches the treasure, getting visibly more obsessed and crazed as he approaches his prize, beside himself at getting everything he wanted. Sonic rushes in to help him and does Then Sonic suddenly disappears, and Dread is abruptly left with the power to control the universe.

If that feels like an odd place to end the story, then... yeah. If it doesn't feel like the story of that universe has concluded yet, it's because it didn't. Heck, we don't even know what happened to Rusty.

Likewise, Shadow accusing Sonic of destroying the universe makes a decent season cliffhanger, but it wasn't written to be one.

I sure do miss the days when Shadow was a calm and collected individual and not a just a rage monster who hits things...

I mean he was frozen for most of his life.

And Sonic technically ended the word and he got trapped as a phantom so he has a right to be pissed

So have any of you imagined how Rusty Rose would react to regular Amy?

Like the idea of Rusty learning her prime self is in love with Sonic would either make her robo vomit in disgust or grudgingly admit it makes sense.

Since Rusty does have a sort of Worthy Opponent thing going on with Sonic.

I do wonder how they will develop Rusty Rose's character from this point forward. Will she become good or will she stay evil?

My idea is that her original personality will start to resurface again.

My guess is The Big Thing Sonic needs to inspire her to have is hope and confidence, allowing her to finally break out of the Council's control.

Even in her original persona, that version of Amy was willing to give up her free will because she felt there was no hope of survival otherwise. So Sonic doesn't just have to bring her back, first he has to get her to believe fighting is possible.

It would be interesting to see her original personality start to surface up at some point. Maybe she might turn out like E-Gamma and try to fight against the Council once she regains her memories.

Makes me wonder of Metal Sonic might appear so he can pull an Eviler than Thou with her

Especially since Meral is a complete robot instead of a converted organic

Well I can see the Chaos Council building him since they ARE already interested in Sonic and have data on him.

Wonder if they'll show how she became Rusty.

Yes actually.

Legit just a flashback of Amy falling into the ocean and coming out roboticized.

It would be interesting to see how the Amy of the Dystopian world become Rusty Rose.
