Yeah, a lot of casuals don’t really know anything about this stuff. It’s like that “Harry Potter” game that did numbers because a lot of people who just like “Harry Potter” and don’t know go on social media much bought it because they don’t know anything about the controversies behind Rowling or the game.

The one thing I am wondering is if this movie will be able to pull in a younger teen audience as easily as the other ones, especially since the previous movie had a post-Wednesday Jenna Ortega. And those people are more likely to be on social media.

Ghostface using social media to his advantage is an interesting concept to me.

Like, does he get everybody because they forgot to set their accounts to private. Do tech companies get the iron because he starts posting his kills or does he start Dark Webbing that stuff?

Heck we already escalated from copycats holding knives to grabbing shotguns. I think the next step is Ghostface becoming a Dark Web icon with some Hostel-type craziness/organizations of Ghostface masked serial killers/Neo Nazis and KKK putting on the mask and chanting and sh-t.

Secrets of Dumbledore and The Flash each got plagued by at least one controversy that killed either one's chance at success. Again, the anger I and others have is visceral. Barber really stepped in it both politically and professionally—and the writer also deactivated his Insta right before the announcement because he knew the negative response was gonna be palpable too.

I don't like praying for movies to fail. My hope is that Scream 7 does though so the message is loud and clear.

Secrets of Dumbledore also had bad reviews and bad WOM and a lot of people were already soured on the franchise after Crimes of Grindelwald. And the Flash had a bunch of other issues including tons of delays and reshoots that lead to and coming out after it had already been announced the universe was getting rebooted.

Look, I'm not rooting for this movie either, but unfortunately, it's probably gonna take something else weighing the movie down outside of the stuff with Barrera for it to fail.

The way things were going, I wouldn't have been shocked if the Big Bad of the new trilogy—if not maybe the whole series—was supposed to be Cristina Carpenter. Sidney's mother Maureen was the victim it all started with and Sam's mother is the perpetrator who put it all in motion? Makes perfect sense.

Trying not to talk about the current controversy. My blood starts to boil every time I do.

Not sure if I said before: I consider the expanded ending to Scream 4 canon. It feels too right to ignore.

If it were me moving to Sam was an idea. Leaning on her being the next Ghostface then abandoning it, or just leaving it on a note of uncertainty was fine.

The whole series was based around the idea of not knowing who you could trust. Sam was the embodiment of that.

I don't know if Billy Loomis's daughter was the best way to go about that.

That was the point though: Sam defined herself beyond being Billy's daughter, beyond being any regular kind of Ghostface. That she could be capable of the same kind of brutality and viciousness and yet still be a compassionate and good human being who didn't totally lose herself in those Ghostface attributes—and didn't fake the good stuff at all either—made her stand out in an incredibly good way. The sixth one being able to make this more appealing to those who weren't fans of her in the fifth one was also pretty impressive too.

I did like the sixth more than the fifth. I was surprised by that.

Sorry, I'm late but I'm glad that Neve Campbell is returning in Scream 7, but I kind of concerned about how they'll explain Sydney's return and the Carpenter sisters not appearing since Melissa Barrera's unfair firing by Spy Glass and Jenna Ortega not returning to Scream 7.

If there was ever a franchise that could easily drop or add characters, it is Scream. Ghostface is going to be someone new, and their motive involves Sidney and not Sam or Tara.

I think the cleanest way to go about this would be to simply have Scream 7 be a midquel. Show us what Sidney and her kids were doing while Ghostface took Manhattan; maybe that hidden location wasn't so safe after all. Plus, this provides an opportunity for Sam's story to continue relatively unscathed should Spyglass suddenly sort its shit out and make peace with Melissa Barrera.

[up] A midquel would work. I want to see some interesting new characters, a different setting, a connection to Scream VI, and a new take on Ghostface.

Before the controversy happened, yeah. I would've totally loved a Scream sequel that took place during the sixth one and showed what happened while Sid was protecting her family during the New York Ghostface killings.

Not really a surprise at this point, but Courtney Cox is in talks to return.

[up][up]Return might have been a bad choice of words. She never turned down the project, she's just now in talks to join it.

Ah, my bad.

I'd heard Jenna Ortega and the guy who played the love interest (I think) passed. I thought maybe Courtney Cox did also.

A THR article dropped recently with soundbites from both Melissa Barrera and the Radio Silence duo. With Abigail coming out next month, Melissa needs to not be left out of marketing so that the movie's success means she doesn't lose her career. The Insta count at least starting tagging her again.

Scream 7's expected for release next March. That means about a year to stop it by the most peaceful means possible.
