No, Anton was elected President after the death of the old dictator.
He even had several of the revolutionaries vote for him.
It's just he immediately turns around and begins a horribly oppressive regime that suspends future elections.
Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters.Sounds more like Batista then.
Batista ran incredibly progressive, left-wing policies back in the 1940s and won the support of most of the population. He was legitimately elected too. He was already rather controversial for playing kingmaker in regards to presidents, but people forgot about that under his acclaimed term.
It was a nasty surprise when he launched a coup after not winning the election in 1952 and establishing a pro-business right-wing dictatorship.

Might be just me being bad at FPS in general but Pagan Min DLC seems harder than Vaas. Also a whole lot of self-loathing.
Burning love!
Honestly it sounds like Castillo launched a successful counterrevolution.
Castro Expy is the unseen and deceased former president in the lore.
