Some highlights:

- Garnt was actually a monk, twice (once as a kid the other as a twentysomething)

- Podtaku and the evolution of anime content on You Tube before and after

- ...early anitubers and how one of its founding fathers, uh, (content warning) killed his family and was planning to shoot up a school, while making a video seemingly hinting at that before he got arrested

I wasn't really part of the anime community back then, but I imagine it must've been a rough time for them all.

i kinda like it as a relic of early anitube, his channel is like a time capsule

If Youtube didn't make a habit of constantly trying to wipe channels off the map, sometimes destroying people's livelihoods in the process, for often complete inane reasons, I wouldn't be mad.

But it does, and I take a lot of offence that the channel of a would-be mass murderer is still untouched all these years, like a turd preserved in ambar.

You know, with this whole Mr. Anime thing and that otaku yaoi fan who turned into a sexual predator in ep 5 or so, maybe this podcast will have enough horror stories to warrant a Nightmare Fuel page in the future

Also, Connor practically lived through a high school anime.

as for why his channel wasn't taken down, i have some theories:

• early anitube was tiny, he currently has 18.2K subscribers, he couldn't have had more than 25 000 subscribers at his peak, 30 000 if we're being optimistic
• people just forgot about him. unlike Elliot Rodger, he didn't become part of the national conversation, he couldn't have been in the news for more than a week or, if even that
• he did it before Youtube really blew up, which i think was somewhere along lines of late 2012/early 2013, anitube blew up roughly at the same time, with Attack on Titan and Sword Art Online leading the charge

I'm honestly really liking the mix and conduct of nearly every episode (even the near/past 2 hours ones), if only because they get really educational.

Seriously though, it’s interesting to get a glimpse of how he became the Garnt we know. I personally tried to do a screenless week once, but I can’t even imagine getting rid of everything for months.

Also, I wonder if those hardcore temples accept foreigners spending a month or two as monks, because detoxifying from the modern world like that genuinely sounds like sonething I want to experience at least once.

It’s neat that they cut up the podcasts into smaller videos because I have trouble listening to long podcasts. This show’s actually really freaking interesting − if only for the oddity of hearing a Welsh guy, a British-Thai guy and an Aussie-Japanese guy chat about their experiences in Japan and America.

As an American, I like to think that the rest of the world thinks of us like we think of Floridians. So, they're not entirely wrong.

Also, is this Maylene's first time on camera? I feel like she was part of thee shopping challenge episode but I can't remember.
