I'm making this thread, because The Protagonist is one of the Omnipresent Tropes, and so, shouldn't be having almost 2000 wicks.

Again, by the way, as I brought it down from over 2000 to 1947 once already.

Just hoping to get a bit more help with this, while I do other things, mainly Wick Namespace Migration.

What are the main issues that are happening with this trope?

[up] - Omnipresent Tropes shouldn't have entries that are Played Straight.

They also have many subtropes to handle their use.

I'll take a guess at the biggest issue and say, Irrelevant Potholing.

Character names just being potholes to The Protagonist.

...

A bigger issue might be its presence in trope lists in Characters and Work pages.

For those, scrub The Protagonist entries out, unless they're played with.

What I very commonly see is more than just potholing to a character name if that character is the protagonist. Any time the word 'protagonist' gets used in an entry, it gets potholed to The Protagonist. For example:

  • Undying Loyalty: Jim is unquestionably The Protagonist of Season 3, but his alliance with Wade doesn't change the personal loyalty he feels to Peter. This becomes a plot point in Season 5 when Peter becomes that season's protagonist and unexpectedly puts a hit out on Simon's life for mysterious reasons. Because of that loyalty, Jim is the only person Peter feels he can trust, allowing Jim to move freely about the complex without being monitored.

Okay, crappy made-up entry aside, that's how I keep seeing it being used. I've started removing that whenever I encounter it.

If my post doesn't mention a giant flying sperm whale with oversized teeth and lionfish fins for flippers, it just isn't worth reading.

Well, I've got it down to 1982. It seems it's lowest point I ever got it to, was 1933.

49 more removals or more... Possible...

My plan is now removing all potholes and mentions where it's not relevant to the example.

Why wouldn't potholes be allowed?

I thought they aren't allowed due to the above posts. I didn't notice they were referring to a Sink Hole problem.
