I want to see the Three Great Yokai show up in here. Tamamo No Mai, Shuten Doji, and the biggest baddest one of all, Otakemaru.

Considering it s a Boruto esque sequel, gotta have the new Main baddies worf the strongest entities from the original series, and those 3 would be perfect to do so. tongue

We got a plot description

So, I think the boy is actually one of Sesshomaru's daughters?

Oh... She's a bifauxnen. Definitely didn't expect that...

But yeah, with them being confirmed as Sesshomaru's daughters and half-demons, looks like him shacking up with a human, whether or not it's Rin, is confirmed. Still wish the half-demons had a non-human feature other than "different colored hair streak" though.

A few extra things:

  • They got a lot of the main staff back from the Inuyasha TV series. Not either of the directors, though (this one did some episode and unit direction)
    • A lot of these people weren't really that active in the industry anymore. It's kind of impressive
    • I'm pretty certain Takahashi isn't particularly involved with the story
  • Towa is definitely a girl, she wears men's clothes because they're easier to move in
  • Setsuna's memory loss is due to a dream butterfly
  • Moroha has been on her own since she was young
    • ...Probably safe to assume that whatever happened to Inuyasha and Kagome is plot-relevant

Sesshomaru's daughters:

White-haired Towa was raised by Sota, Kagome's brother, in the modern era.

Black-haired Setsuna seems to have been trained by Kohaku to be a demon slayer.

Inuyasha and Kagome's daughter:

Moroha is a bounty hunter that seems to have raised herself.

It amuses me that the sibling actually had more than one kid while the actual MC’s are apparently single-child.

I don’t know why it’s weird, it just is.

[up] It also feels like this sequel is more about Sesshomaru's kids with Inuyasha's kid as the tagalong.

Although it seems like they'll be crashing at Sota's place mostly.

Either Inu and Kagome died, or they abandoned their kid.

In either case...ouch.

Towa and Setsuna are twins, so both brothers procreated exactly once

Also, everyone is 14

Either Inu and Kagome died, or they abandoned their kid.

I find it kind of funny that everyone is freaking out about this, since my immediate assumption was that they got sealed somehow. Oh, and it's not pointed out so directly, but it doesn't seem like Sesshomaru has been active in his kids' lives, either. He probably got got by the same thing

A couple things to keep in mind here:

  1. Inuyasha and Sesshomaru are on the key visual. Doesn't necessarily mean they'll have much of a role, but they're probably not being shoved aside to make way for the new generation, at least
  2. I think Japanese copyright law requires the original creator to sign off on derivative works. Takahashi likely didn't write this, but she has to be okay with it happening

Takahashi says she's excited to see how the girls story will unfold so she doesn't really seem to have a hand in any writing capacity although she designed the three of them I think?

Also Moroha has a demon-sword called Kurikara which from what I remember is the sword of the Buddhist deity Acala (I think the MC's sword in Blue Exorcist is the same sword)

I wonder if the Bone-Eater's Well is functioning again somehow, or if these "kids" are 500 years old.

According to the synopsis, the Sacred Tree is what took Towa to the modern era and only recently has the connection between the times opened again and its Setsuna and Moroha going to the modern era rather then Towa back to Warring States era that sets off the plot.

That's interesting. In the old series, only Kagome and Inuyasha could ever go back and forth (Souta tried in one episode and only got a face full of dirt for his troubles).

So why is Towa able to use it....if the tree is responsible, is it giving others permission somehow?

I don't recall if it was ever explained why only Inuyasha and Kagome could cross eras (might have been due to their bond or some shit), so who knows?

Well, they're all related to Inuyasha so maybe Sesshomaru could've used it too

[up][up]The bone eaters well is made from wood taken from the Sacred Tree so that is why the tree has a similar power over time as the well (That's also why Inuyasha did not rot and die over time when Kikyo's spell pinned him to it).

But if I remember right the whole thing that directly connected Inuyasha and Kagome to the past/present was Kikyo subconsciously wishing to be with Inuyasha again when she was cremated with the jewel.

Why Towa was sent to the present isn't clear yet but now that she is there, I'm sure destiny is at play anchoring both her and Setsuna and probably Moroha to both eras.

Nah, the only returning characters that we have concrete knowledge of in this time are Kohaku and Sota, funnily enough, since they each raised one of Sessh's kids.

Interesting, maybe he and Rin raised them together?

The older twin was transported to the present day and was raised by Sota, the new keeper of the shrine. Because of that, she goes by Higurashi. The younger twin went into Kohaku's care and became a demon slayer in his new corps. That's all the info we have. Rin's a big question mark, with much of the fandom assuming that she's the twins' mother.

Is Rin not something like a daugther to Sesshamaru?

That is how I always took it at least.

I expect to go to r/Inuyasha and have some good nostalgia chat, maybe talk about the blurays coming out in a couple months. I see one thread about Sesshomaru's daughter or something and don't really think much of it. Sesshomaru/Rin has been shipped forever and there's all that speculation Rin was Kagome's ancestor and blah blah blah. Old hat in the fandom but something I care not about at all.

Then I see another thread and another thread and another thread about Sesshy's kids and a Bingo about who he fucked. I figure Takahashi did a JK and started giving random facts about the post- series.

But nope, there's a whole new anime coming. I'm quite frankly stunned. I hope it gets dubbed as I'm curious since IY is potentially my favorite anime of all time given it was my gateway to my love of Japanese pop culture. I still think it holds up and is a timeless classic.

I dunno how to feel about this new series apart from that mild curiosity and hope it gets dubbed.

Inuyasha's OST was genius.

You would expect them to bring back a couple of the big name heroic tracks like the one you posted.

But also this

Assuming conventional powerscaling, Sesshomaru is far and away the strongest person in existence, or at least in Japan. He would be far, far above the girls and any foe they face. His introduction, given his relationship to the MC's and his power level, would fit perfectly with this classic theme. It would certainly make us fangasm as he shows up to oneshot whatever foe was probably too much for the girls to handle .All while this blasts.
