You know, that discussion pops up on TV Tropes with a lot of frequency, and it seems like it's because people want to axe the Magic Realism trope, but aren't allowed to since it's such a popular term in general culture.
People complain about it being a pretentious term, although the trope page has a bunch of examples of soap operas or sitcoms, which don't fit under Mundane Fantastic, so, I can't really understand what the problem is.
I think the easiest way to explain it is, a trashy soap opera where a guy chances appearance thanks to a spell because the actor got fired is Magic Realism, and a novel about Victorian England where fairies and wizards are real is Mundane Fantastic.

I'm having trouble telling the difference between Magic Realism and Mundane Fantastic. Both of their descriptions say they're about settings that are mostly grounded in reality aside from a few fantastic elements, which are not treated as particularly unusual by the characters.
I see a lot of repeat examples between the two pages, which makes it even harder to tell them apart.
EDIT: found two other threads about this, the first of which kind of answers my question, but I'm still not completely sure.
