Yu-Gi-Oh! Occult

The wind blew down omniously. For many that would be a sign to stay away and beware, yet for the adventurers at the bottom of mount Arcanum it was nothing but an invitation.

The mount was not particularly tall, and the way upwards seemed quite clear. Tseten, the group´s guide had made her way throw much taller peaks, and if anyone looked at her fierce expression, they wouldn´t guess she intended on treating this challenge any differently than the ones she had faced before.

But there was still a primal feeling that lingered on the minds of all those that look up. As if their brains were looking at a particularly dark spot, and filling it with all sorts of monsters their imaginations could muster.

But that wasn´t of concern at the moment, why would it be? The prize was too good to pass on, and everyone there had long since made up their minds and internalized the risks.

The gamble had been made, and the die was cast.

Drake let off an audible gulp as he looked up the mountain path. Trying to cover up that reflexive measure of fear he lapsed into a brazen laugh.

"Are you guys sure about this? I mean I'm as up for a mountain climb as anyone else"

He patted his torso a little, even if whatever physique he had was obscured under several layers of clothing.

"But it's you guys I'm worried about. What if they turn you away? I g-get that I'm here for moral support but I'm not sure I can deal with crying that well..."

He popped a sheepish smile and took off his beanie briefly to brush back his greasy brown hair.

"Sorry, I'm not being a good friend am I..."

Fiora followed the guide and the bunch of strangers, clutching her hands tightly against her chest. Her eyes darted from place to place.

"I... I've set my mind. I have to become stronger to... to be worthy."

Aaron hanged in the back of the group, feeling that oh-so familiar nervous feeling of I don't know why, but I don't wanna do this. The usual nausea accompanying it suddenly drowned out by a faint buzzing from his wrist. Aaron looked down at the centerpiece of his duel disk, noticing a familiar light purple glow.

So he wouldn't look completely crazy, "Made that mistake before," He thought, Aaron shuffled quietly away from the group before looking down at the Gem of the Elements, now a shade of purple instead of its usual clear white.

His own reflection was quickly replaced by that of Umbramirage, the Elemental Lord of Darkness.

"Why are you nervous?" The Lord questioned, the red visor that made up his face glowing as he spoke, "Are there not larger mountains in your homeland?"

"Well yeah," Aaron answered, whispering, "But its not like I ever climbed any of them!"

"You do wish to be capable of using our power, correct?"

"Yeah, but-"

"Then go."

Aaron sighed, "Ok ok, you're right. I got it."

There was a brief pause.

"Do the others got anything to say?"

"You know they will contact you when they feel it necessary."

Aaron looked as if he was about to protest, but decided against it.

"Thanks Umbra."

Aaron's reflection returned as the gem faded back into its original color.

Fiora looked at Aaron mumbling at himself. He looked ill. She slowed down to match his speed and asked. "Are you sure you can make the climb? You don't look so well."

Chase looks around, chuckling to himself.

“Kukuku, a mountain to climb, the Battle is set! We shall make this duel legendary!”

His coat flutters in the wind. “Fufu, even the wind heralds my arrival, as if nature itself welcomes me!”

"I'm fine," Aaron responded, "Just a little nervous."

"Kinda my first time doing something like this."

"It's my first time doing something dangerous like this, too. But I have promised him to be brave, so I have to move forward.''

"Who?" Aaron questioned.

"Oh, I'll show you. Please don't be alarmed." Fiora pulled out a card from her bag, Stardust Warrior, and revealed it to Aaron. Suddenly, her left eye turned light blue and her voice morphed into a deep, echoing voice.

"Greetings, fellow traveller. I am the spirit of Stardust. Lady Fiora was kind enough to help me as the Maiden of Stardust, so I am currently travelling with her."

Fiora puts the card away, and her left eye turned back to green. "So right now I kind of have a spirit possessing me."

Aaron sat there stunned for a minute.

"Ok..."

He glanced at the gem adorning the center of his duel disk.

"I've actually got some experience with spirits too. Seeing them kinda runs in the family, at least on Mom's side."

A commotion forms around a mysterious woman, she´s sitting on the ground with a deck on her hands as duelists around her whine.

"She beat me...during the first draw phase"

"Well, guess you didn´t shuffle my deck as well as you thought you did" She notes. "Anyone else care to try me?" as she spoke, her face could sometimes be seen underneath her hood, her skin was dark and of a warm tone, and her eyes where of a piercing and vivid color that was hard to determine as the light constantly shifted.

The commotion distracted Fiora from the conversation she was having. She asked a bystander. "Excuse me. What is going on here?"

Aaron's attention turned to the woman who just seemed to have arrived out of thin air.

"Uh," He remarked to Fiora, "Where did she come from?"

"I'm just as surprised as you here."

"Hoho?! Could this be, a challenge worthy of my powers?"

KAHAHAHA!

Chase wraps an arm around the nearest bystander. "You there, tell me this, what causes this commotion, hmmm?"

A bystander jumps in surprise.

"-The hell is your problem man? I´ll tell you, just stop shaking me! The lady over there is winning against everyone that challenges her, and she´s doing it during the first draw phase too!"

Fiora held Stardust Warrior in her hand.

I've heard of winning on the first turn, but winning on the first draw phase? I can only think of one possibility...

She drew the last Exodia piece on her first draw phase. Either she is blessed by Exodia's spirit or she is cheating.

"You're kidding right?" Aaron asked the bystander, "She couldn't have just Exodiaed everyone she's gone up against."

Drake pondered the intensely improbable idea of someone drawing Exodia consistently first draw every game.

"Huh, think this is the Gambler you guys wanted to see?"

He tilted his head to the side and adjusted his sunglasses.

"Not a particularly good duelist if they have to rely on luck to win..."

"No kidding. Then again, between the talk about cards being alive and spirits, a lucky streak like that almost seems normal." Simon jokes. He then tries to stand on his tiptoes, to get a better view of the playing field.

The duelists can see that the would be challengers gave up on having a normal duel, and were just using ridiculous shuffling techniques then giving her the deck so she could draw her opening hand.

Each one of them left in disappointment, as every time she managed to draw all the pieces of exodia.

"Has anyone allowed her to go first?" Fiora asked out loud.

One of the bystanders tried to say something, but the woman just shushes him.

"Why, isn´t this interesting...You think the turn order will affect the result? Care to test that theory?" she says, extending her deck towards the stardust duelist.

"Oh man, she's calling you out."

Drake continued to ponder the possibilities of how this mystery duelist had such a consistent deck going.

"There's a lot of ways someone could cheat it, or maybe it's just weird luck-magic..."
