Also I just watched episode 10 (as I'm one week behind due to not having a paid subscription) and holy fuck.

Yeah, it's late on Wakanim, I'm not sure why. =[ I compensated by rewatching a free episode of Kaguya-sama, but still.

The episodes definitely on crunchyroll.

I like that they final addressed the elephant in the room of how they were going to talk the other kids in to coming along. Wow none of these kids seem to be all that attached to momy dearest.

And it also explains some of the younger kids acting a bit weird earlier.

Yep, they sure take it well… although their first reaction was probably less composed.

This episode also shows the greatest asset Emma & co. have in their arsenal: they're completely out of their minds. tongue Izabella can only anticipate their moves so long as they are moves a sane person would think of.

Man, Ray gets the best faces. It's almost unfair to the others.

Absolutely called the kids being in it early on. Kinda proud of that, really, because I saw nothing else about this episode coming outside of Phil being important in some way. But yeah, I'll agree with the above that these kids are completely out of their minds. It's helping them, though. And it's amusing to finally see Izabella break down like Krone used to. The lady's losing this one pretty badly right about now.

Still, there's an episode left, so this probably isn't over juuust yet.

Only thing I wish was that the episode didn't rely so much on flashbacks to explain everything, but oh well. At least it foreshadowed all this stuff properly.

Yeah, now this was a cool episode. Sorry, Ray - get out-insaned by your own allies.

It's been fun.

[up]I dunno about that, seemed like a pretty hot episode to me.

Episode 12… They fucking nailed it. The animation, the pacing, the acting, the music, it was simply perfect. Not only was the episode not rushed as I feared, it even had its quiet moments, as well as a very on-point anime-only scene with Izabella facing Emma one last time. As well as Izabella untying her hair after the kids are gone.

Season 2 is already announced for 2020 by the way, but that won't surprise anyone.

Oh, well done. That was simply stellar.

Izabella's defeat was a thing of beauty, as well as her backstory, and the fact that, in the end, she accepted it and let them go. Really, Izabella would be my favorite character in the show if it wasn't for Emma, who's the queen of the show. Probably the season. You can feel every moment in the episode, and the reveal of the song that's been playing through the season as being the song Izabella loved in her childhood was incredible.

Yeah, this is a really good anime. Top marks right there, and a good way to start the year. And, of course, we already have a second season confirmed, but even then, this ending could be taken as conclusive on it's own. That's rare these days.

Now, do I read the manga, or wait for the next season...

Gonna doublepost here, because this is one of those circumstances that merit that. Izabella's Lullaby, the song that plays at the end of the first episode and at the climax of the last one, is a really damn good one, so I thought I'd share it in case anyone was looking for it.

Genuinely got the chills. <3 I wonder where they found the OST though…

I've seen the full, unbroken OST on youtube, so presumably it came out sometime in the last week or two.

Minor foreshadowing detail: In the first episode, Izabella hums that song to herself as she leads Connie to her death.

So, does anyone know what chapter of the manga the anime leaves off on? I’d like to be able to catch up.

I think around chapter 42.

Ok, thanks!

Edit: Upon closer inspection, the anime actually ends with Chapter 37, in case anyone else wants to know where to start.

Future manga readers should also be warned that the art is often a bit mangled in the scanlations due to the cleaning. You might want to use Mangaplus if possible. Or buy the volumes (I don't know how many are out in the US).

For those who forgot, Season 2 started a couple weeks ago. ^^

Already watched the first two episodes, and I must say episode 2 hit particularly hard. Not only did everyone in the family get their little moment, they did the hunting scene with Emma and Sonju more than justice.

There are some cuts and additions compared to the manga, but I really like how they’re handling this.

I'm enjoying it too, yeah. It's definitely a different beast from Season 1, but I like it so far.

Huh, episode 3 is… different for sure. Seems like they’re going for a "too good to be true?" kind of suspense with the shelter’s discovery. I’m curious to see how much they’re gonna diverge.

Considering the manga is over, going an anime-original route would be pretty strange.

Unless the authors are dissatisfied with some parts in restrospect and want to tweak them?
