I have no idea why they thought turning Phoenix into some super psychic dark side is a good idea when it failed the first time.
Because Simon Kinberg, the director of DP & writer of X3 got too attached & personal with the concept.
Incredibly the majority of the fault lies with him.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."From a writing perspective, I can see why making the Phoenix more about personal trauma and psychological issues is appealing. It's very interesting character stuff. That's just not what the original story was about, at all.
As for future characters, yeah, I could definitely see Shang-Chi. She-Hulk too since she has a TV show coming. Maybe they'd do some of the Eternals, and there's always a ton of comic characters like Hercules, the Champions, ect.
I’ve said it before, it’s like if they adapted Inferno and made it about Scott’s marital problems.
Though that would have been unlikely cause it first requires actually giving a rat’s ass about Scott.
Knowing Fox they would have just given Logan all of Scott’s marriage stuff.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."I still can't believe that's how the X-Men movie series ends on.
It's just so depressing.
The Fox Men are dead, and it was a whimper.
So hopefully the X-Men DLC lets people have some fun.
Yeah maybe now they can go big with Phoenix.
The MCU now has colorful aliens & shit so yeah hopefully the next time Phoenix ever gets adapted in some manor it’s more faithful & bombastic.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Ugh, don't remind me of how Fox botched Dark Phoenix again with one of the worst comic book villains ever. Malkueith had more of a presence than Vux.
Mileena MadnessTo each their own, but for me, Phoenix was one of the better comic book/Marvel villains.
Most of them are always overpowered assholes with some grand ambitions. They always come across as a wannabe Dr. Doom or Thanos.
Wait are you talking about the comic or the movie?
Cause we are talking about the movie where the Phoenix was barely a character.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."About as much as a character Galactus was.
Well the Phoenix is a violent corrupting influence that chooses whatever host it desires.
It was neutered in the movie.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."The MCU certainly has a lot to learn from the Fo X-Men movies, specifically their shortcomings.
Self-serious autistic metalhead who goes by any pronouns. (avvie template source)
Exactly, just like Galactus.
Speaking of Galactus, I hope that whenever he gets adapted, he keeps his anti-villain attitude from the comics.
Jason has come back to kill for Mommy.Phoenix was even a villain in the movie called DARK Phoenix.
Mileena MadnessGalactus is a force of nature that exists to preserve the cosmic balance, even if that means devouring whole planets to sate its hunger.
They're two completely different things.
According to Fox he was a cloud.
I’m now reminded of how UA 1 ended with a tease of Galactus being the next Big Bad, but since UA 2 was a Civil War adaptation, they sort of brush it off. Thor’s all “yeah, it was awesome, but you don’t want to hear the story now. I’ll tell you over dinner and ale some other time.”
Maybe because that's what it originally was before they started retconning its true nature to hell and back?

It was still a cosmic entity that was alien to everyone but Jean.
Mileena MadnessNot originally.
Indeed the trauma & bad memories of box office bombs & franchise killings from their own arrogance & incompetence.
