Kind of annoying.

Just tried to play Warcraft 3 and the version I have seems to be having a crashing issue with the cutscenes and Windows 10.

Unfortunately its also 1 version before the 1080p update.

So it looks like I'll need to update and lose the ability to use LAN.

Tell me if this not illegal:

- Gamers bought a game over a decade ago with all the functions and option available.

- Developer now forced everyone, even the one don't buy Reforge to update the new version, disable previously available options( like shadow, shading,...) and only unlock them if you buy Reforged. A Lso they introduce a bunch of bug into the old game.

It like if someone buy a car, then 15 years later the car maker break into the buyer house, breaks some old system on the car and only going to fix them if you buy the new version of the same car, despite the new version have a tons of problems.

I think most User Agreements say that services can be terminated without compensation. People have little to stand on regarding online infrastructure.

Graphical options being taken away are another story, perhaps.

Judges have occasionally sided with the consumers on stuff like this, even if the EULA explicitly says the company can do whatever they want.

A lot of the stuff in the EULA is impossible to enforce, and if they try to enforce it then the judge orders them to never put it in an EULA ever again. They get by because most consumers aren't going to go to all the effort to sue.

They also get by because most consumers never read through the entire EULA.

Yeah, but what I mean is that if something like this happens and consumers threaten to sue, then the company says "Ah, but it's in the EULA! You signed it!" And the consumer gives up on suing because they did sign it, so they'd automatically lose, right?

But signing something, especially something designed to be as long and annoying to read as possible is not the be-all end-all of the law. Judges are people too, and I doubt many of them bother reading EULAs.

[up]At least here in Germany there are some pretty comprehensive laws about what you can and can't put in your EULA and unless you included exemption clauses, the whole thing is automatically void, if even part of it violates the law.

Same with contracts - if you sign something that isn't conforming with the law, it's not legally binding.

Just because the EULA says it doesn't mean it's legal. Though I don't know if this particular issue has been tried in court

Also calling LAN a "service" kinda stretches the definition, considering Blizzard doesn't need to provide a server structure or anything for it.

That's the whole point of LAN, not having to rely on online servers.

It's a different issue with online multiplayer - for example, back in the day a lot of games relied on GameSpy for their MP servers, so when that service came crashing down, all these games lost their multiplayer functionality (with a few cases getting an alternative way patched in years later).

But this is Blizzard blatantly ripping out a feature people have paid money for without any reasonable justification.

Online multiplayer is a service, LAN isn't.

And it's not like they have a technical justification for removing LAN, if they did they would have not kept it in Starcraft: Remastered.

LAN was removed to further grip on the content players share between each other through custom games.

@Ghilz: It would depend on when the mission would take place. If set after Shards of the Alliance, the third faction could be the Alliance forces under Garithos. If set after either The Ruins of Dalaran or The Brothers Stormrage, the Naga would be the third faction involved.

EDIT: Holy crap, I just thought of this: a new level of Upkeep known as Severe Upkeep. Severe Upkeep would tax 90% of a player's gold income so for every 10 gold mined out, a player in Severe Upkeep would get only 1 gold.

I personally like the Orcs. While they can't field as many units as the other factions, they have very strong troops.

EDIT: Well crap, I've been thinking about structures that can infinitely produce gold. For the Human Alliance and Night Elves, their infinite gold structure would be called the Dwarven Bank and Ancient of Wealth respectively. Constructing one would cost around 9000 gold and 3500 lumber, making them Awesome, but Impractical since they would only provide 10 gold every four seconds that would be subject to upkeep rules and you could use all that gold and lumber to construct an army, a base, and get your troops upgraded. Having trouble coming up with a good name for the Orc and Undead equivalents.

I have always like the Human faction. I had like 1600 wins with them on Battle.net way back in the day on TFT. (I believe I got as far as getting the Blood Mage battle.net avatar, not the Jaina one.)

My order of preference is Human -> Night Elf -> Orc -> Undead. I never like playing Undead.

My favorite strategies in Human use are either a power strategy of massed Gryphons and Dragonhawks with a Paladin as Hero, a power strategy of massed Knights and Riflemen with Paladin as Hero, a mixed strategy of Knights, Riflemen, Priests, Sorceresses and Mortar Teams with Paladin as Hero, or a mixed Rifleman/Caster/Mortar Team force with either Paladin as Hero or Archmage and Blood Mage team-up.

Rarely are my armies not in High Upkeep at all times. But it doesn't matter much as I've long since retired from multiplayer. I just do Custom Games and campaign missions anymore.

Settled on just watching a walkthrough in Youtube (first of, I'm not confident the computer I'm operating in it can take it and second, I'm not fond of what I've heard about it). In any case, here are the pros and cons I found:

1. Pros

a. Having characters and units walk in cutscenes when they should (Arthas and his Footmen guards arriving at Uther's camp in the first Alliance mission in Reign of Chaos as an example)

b. Editing Medivh's demise to somewhat match Warcraft: The Last Guardian. Still lacked Garona though.

c. Adding Ner'zhul during Kael's explanation as to what happened to Draenor in the Alliance campaign in Frozen Throne.

d. Furion riding his in-game white stag from Frozen Throne in Reign of Chaos for consistency.

2. Cons

a. Making Hellscream cleanly shaven in-game despite keeping the original cinematics where he's bearded.

b. No Pandaren Brewmaster in the fourth Alliance mission in Frozen Throne after clearing the bonus mission between the third and fourth missions.

Did you know that if the Orc base falls while Archimonde is making his final ascent, he's going to keep walking during the cinematic?

Just an interesting tidbit for y'all.

Time to bump this thread for something good, I hope.

This here is a teaser trailer for a custom map for Reforged. It's not exactly a Warcraft 2 remake as much as it's a Warcraft 2 campaign itself being remade. It will reuse some Reforged assets whilst having loads of original ones too, to stay true to the Warcraft 2 aesthetics, but also adding some modern touches here and there. The intent isn't to be merely a reskin, but to be more.

As for lore, it will rely on heavily established lore about the second war from the original game, WoW, Chronicles, and the books.

here's a link to a thread on hiveworkshop about it.

I think the initial problem with Reforged is wanting to make it compatible with the original.

I love the original, but it has many limitations, and by making Reforged compatible, then it would share those limitations as well.

In fact, one of the creators of Dota said that the reason why he was not interested in making a Dota Reforged is because the Reforged would have the same limitations as the original. (And he said that, long before the game was released.)

So... I have a GTX 1060, more than 30GB of RAM, an AMD-8350 CPU, Windows 10 64-bit, and 8GB memory.

I guess I was dumb enough to buy before I checked out the reviews. I'm trying to play a few custom games to practice and the game crashes after 15 minutes.

I made sure no background apps were running and all of the visual settings are down to Medium with no Vsyncing.

Crashes every 15 minutes and when I retried to reload one of my save games my cursor disappeared and the game wouldn't boot up/lagged when it did.

I'm scared to even try Starcraft and rather mad I can't enjoy Warcraft 3 now.

[up]Yeah, that's the worst part: Blizzard, for some inane reason, decided to remove the original version from their online shop and even shut down it's servers. So now the only option is to either play their trainwreck of a remaster, or just pirate the original version.

Which means they essentially retroactively ruined the game's reputation, considering in the future people will only be able to that version, unless they can get a physical copy of the original from somewhere. tongue

Not sure if they are compatible with Reforged.

In all fairness, they might all still work fine, I've just been drained of the desire to try any more after Reforged's disaster.
