Best Way To Organize A Characters Page When Characters Change Around Often?

I'm confused on how Characters.Survivor Dogs should be organized.

I originally had the characters listed by order of importance like Characters.Warrior Cats but that doesn't seem to work well in a series where characters change rank every book, so it's probably be neater to organize them alphabetically.

But then there's the problem of who goes where? Characters change packs and packs change names. Alfie was originally in "Other" since he died in the Leashed pack, but I decided to move him to the Wild pack because the Leashed pack became one with the Wild pack. So, should characters be listed by their original pack or their pack as of the current book? What if they're dead?

The series has a lot of characters and I planned on adding them to the page, but it's best if this gets cleared up before it's more work.

I think placing them at their original position is probably best. Reason being that if someone doesn't know everything about the work, they might not know the character has moved. That also avoids spoilers. Keeping it "current" also has the problem of constantly needing to be reorganised whenever there's an update.

If most everyone is introduced at the start, I'd say organize it by the group they were originally introduced under. If characters are frequently introduced, organize it by the work that introduced them. Otherwise I'd go for order of introduction or alphabetical
