In an unannounced surprise, System Soft released a title for the PC that I'd never thought I'd see for a LOOONG time, if ever again: [[the Dai Senryaku series, particularly the Perfect 4.0 release.]]

Sadly... you don't want to be picking this game up right now. Currently it costs $49.79 USD to purchase for what isn't even a AAA quality product, and that's with a 17% discount applied - the actual price is $59.99. Heck I'm not even sure if this purchase is even worth it on the PC, especially since far superior Turn-based strategy titles exist (Panzer Corps, Steel Panthers, CMANO, etc) and for much cheaper. Oh, and did you notice how that particular trailer was being advertised for the Nintendo Switch? I decided to look up and see if the title was ever released for the console; nothing came out on the US or EU side of the world but they apparently did release it in Japan. And I THINK they released a PS 4 version too; I found a Japanese copy for sale on Amazon but I have no way of knowing if that's an outdated page or whatever. Real baffling, that; those would be THE systems to release a TBS game on since they are so lacking in decent strategy titles, but instead they opted to release the English version on Steam first... where the competition is far, far tougher and of higher quality.

But still... I decided to take the plunge and purchase the damned thing, thanks to me being a huge fan of DSVII: Modern Military Tactics back when it was released for the original Xbox. Yeaaaah... wasn't a good idea.

For a 2018 title, it looks like ass. Yes I know that graphics aren't everything, especially when it comes to this category of grognard-TBS grand strategy wargames, but even then you'd expect a company like System Soft to at least put SOME quality and polish into the textures. Heck, it somehow looks WORSE than the original Xbox version I played; at least that sucker had a simple 3D map that you could zoom in and out of, along with simple 3D unit models to help you determine one from the other. But this? It's almost all 2D sprites, and not very well drawn ones either. Given how the Wargame franchise from Eugen has managed to create over several hundred well-modeled 3D modern military vehicles of all categories (AND charged less than these guys!), I'm having a hard time wondering just how resource-strapped this company was, or what kind of logic their execs used to justify a $60 dollar price tag.

And it's not even well-translated. The basic menu items were taken care of, but spelling errors, odd phrasings or even blatant cases of forgotten Japanese text can be found, so they didn't put that budget towards a good translator either.

Bottom line? Unless you are REALLY desperate for a modern-day TBS strategy wargame, skip this until System Soft decided to spruce up the translation work and lowers the price tag, it's just not worth it.
