In that video it looked like normal shockwave attack, but Smash they gave it some fire effects...

The other move Sakurai showed wasn't fire based though.

Honestly, I'm starting to get a bit soured towards Terry due to fan reactions. I never played his games but I was aware of his series and him. So his reveal for me was more neutral but I will admit there was slight disappointment at first due to me not having a connection. But his design was good and the 5 second move video did give me some interest.

But lately some fans (either Smash or FF ones) have been getting annoying towards people not familiar with Terry. 'Typical Smash fans who stay stuck in their bubble.' 'How about you actually learn some gaming history and look up King of Fighters?' 'How can you not know anything about this iconic game?' 'Try something new for once!'

Those fans are giving off vibes of 'Do you know who I am?!' with regards to Terry and acting shocked that some people aren't hyped for him. I would expect that attitude towards people's confusion concerning Hero, not Terry. Its coming off as a bit self-important. FF and KOF does have a long history, but people's confusion can probably stem by how little this important and iconic series was brought up in fan requests before his reveal. So to go from barely a peep before the reveal to 'Its iconic, why can't you understand it?!' after it is a bit oft-putting.

There also appears to be more resentment towards people unsure who he is than the actual haters.

I felt that way towards Dragon Quest fans as well. "How dare you western plebs not know of the glorious JRPG known as Dragon Quest?"

nah that's how its modern sprite look like. The coloration just makes it look like fire but it's more like raw explosive aura. Even Capcom vs SNK modernized the sprite◊ but still carries the same look. Really the only thing that makes it look fire is the color, since Geese has the same style but is colored blue so no one bats an eye. The true nature of his power is "earth" anyway.

Terry's gameplay couldn't be any more different than the shotos. His playstyle is a close up brawler. He focuses more on applying pressure and being aggressive despite not being a fast fighter, as his normals all have excellent pokes and reach. All of his moves push him towards his enemies, with Power Wave being more of a utility (and even then some versions make it more of a close-up move, especially a variant called Round Wave). And his supers follow the same principle.

Japanese folks aren't as obsessive and loud about their wants, the most we hear are "possible outcomes" rather than "most wanted". I believe even Sakurai stated the out of the world wishes were from overseas fans?

Terry's moves tend to have wind ups but they hit hard and let him travel across the screen.

I dunno, Crack Shoot, Rising Tackle and Power Charge come out fast. But yeah they're also solid hitters. I believe Burn Knuckle also doesn't have a "rotting" damage tatsumakis tend to have (i.e. the later you are hit, the weaker the damage).

I expect Bannakku to function similar to Falcon Punch but it drags him further.

I’m expecting Burn Knuckle to be his Neutral B, and to have a bit of a charge to it - but significantly less than other charge moves, and only for distance: so if you tap it he does a really short one, vs if you hold it for a moment it goes across the stage.

x8 & x7 - Well it doesn't exactly help that, on the other hand, you also have people dismissing Hero as "generic anime swordsman #908865" and Terry as just "Ken with a hat" and claiming that they're just wasted slots because they don't know anything about them.

But the same people want a wooden megaman just because they heard about it in smash forum once.

I wanna know how many of those requesting Geno have actually played Mario RPG.

Considering "Hoes Mad" came from absurdly overdefensive Dragon Quest fans, yeah. I'm not really sure why Terry's Defense Force was the sticking point.

And there's the inevitable swing at a character people want that's popular in the fandom...

Geno is popular outside of the Smash Fandom as a character too. What a surprise. Like... a lot of characters.

Honestly, a lot of these dismissals are really dumb.

Anyway, I gotta check what Fatal Fury games I even have. I think there were Megadrive games too, but I can't be sure. I might also look into at some point getting one of the Arcade Cabinets. Though that'll happen if I win a lot of money, so... never.

Emulation is a thing.

That isn't a fun way for me to play the actual Arcade game. I want the physical cabinet.

I mean at this point my biggest complaint about Geno is that we already have nine Mario characters. Not including Yoshi and Wario who are also technically Mario characters.

That complaint is only valid when pulled against Fire Emblem characters.

It's not honestly a valid complaint at this point. While Sakurai does somewhat take into account the franchise they're from, it's only a small factor. What's way more important is how unique they can be(something they and only they can do), which is an issue ones like Toad has(not to be confused with the different character, Captain Toad). Even Waluigi has more unique moves. Daisy was just lucky cause she has nothing unique from Peach other than visual differences.

She does have stuff though...but maybe save those for next time,I guess.

Her flower theme is a lot more played up than Peach's heart theme.

To be fair, her flower theme is fully in Smash. It's a matter of full-out differences, not just easy aesthetic changes. Though really, they could have her do something other than Turnips, including more than aesthetic changes. Like different damage/knockback. Maybe they could be stronger or she pulls a different set of items out. These might be some easier changes for her to do. Like instead of a Bob-Omb, have her pull out a Motion Senor Bomb. I forgot what the other two items were, though?

Daisy's Down Special used to have different knockback for all the turnips compared to Peach's (according to the Smash Wiki, Daisy's specifically kept the knockback of the turnips from Smash 4).

Then they eventually patched that out, so that Daisy now plays more or less identically to Peach...

That was an error on the developer's part. It makes sense why they didn't leave it in. The only time they had something not work completely as intended they left in was Wavedashing.

If they want to make differences, they'd do so purposely. They want Peach and Daisy to be identical bar hurtbox/animation differences at most. Sad, but that's their intention.
